  • "Superb stay."

Property was in a fantastic location, quick and easy walk to restaurants bars and the lake. Really well equipped, they’d thought of EVERYTHING (other than shower gel, which we didn’t take as would have expected). It’s a beautifully presented and spacious house. We’d definitely book this again if/when returning to Windermere.

They’d never visited the lakes before and already can’t wait to go back and stay here again. It was lovely and clean, very well equipped for everything we needed and very spacious. I was worried it wouldn’t be big enough for 4 adults, a toddler and our dog but it was more than big enough! The pictures don’t do it justice! Very modern and in a great location! We would definitely recommend ivy bank :) thankyou for a wonderful stay!

This was our second stay at Ivy Bank, and it won’t be our last! A fantastic property. It has all the comforts you need for a holiday. Lovely little homely touches throughout. There was a welcome basket of tea/coffee/biscuits, games/DVDs, smart TVs in lounge and bedrooms and a travel cot, highchair and stairgates (the stairgates made it so easy to be away from home with a very active 1 year old, thank you!!). Really good quality bedding and kitchenware. There was a really well put together info book with activities, restaurants, house info, walks and local tips, etc. The master bedroom on the top floor is beautiful and has the most comfy bed I’ve slept in at a holiday cottage. We had the best nights of sleep! They obviously try to support local too - with the hand wash and moisturiser from a local shop and some of the artwork from a local photographer (who we met at the Bowness Sunday market and bought some of their work, stunning!). Perfect location in the centre of Bowness - walking distance to shops, pub and restaurants as well as Lake Windermere, boat cruises, car/foot ferry and transport links, etc. A huge added bonus is the car parking space, which became a must for us after having stayed in bowness for the last 6 years and struggling year on year to find on-road parking, even with a permit! We have a Volvo XC90, so a very large 4x4, and can park it (just!) in the space. The owners are really friendly, communication is great and they answer any queries. We’ve had two perfect family holidays staying at Ivy Bank now! Thank you!

The cottage is an amazing location and is very quiet and is close to everything you need within a very short walking distance. Everything and more you need is provided for. It is impeccably clean and well planned out. The children liked being upstairs on their own floor as they are a little older but if you had small children there is also another lovely bedroom on the top floor. The Cottage was everything we could of hoped for. Spotlessly clean, lovely, cosy and warm (we didn't even need to use the log burner haha) Situated in a great location and had an added bonus of parking space round the back. Roughly a 10 minute walk to the Bowness on Windermere Lake, where we got a ferry across to Ambleside (dog friendly) and also a ferry across the water to the Wray Castle and a great viewing point. Also was only a 10 minute walk to Windermere where we took a walk up Orrest Head which was well worth the walk for the views at the top. Finally there were several dog friendly pubs but we found The Quayside one was the best which did great food and also a sports bar downstairs to watch the football. Would definitely visit and stay again. (Hopefully in the sunshine)

The owner’s communication before we arrived was great and they were friendly and helpful. The property itself is lovely - has a nice homely feel to it. The open plan living area was very sociable and cosy and the kitchen was lovely and had everything you needed (ever a little pack of cleaning bits for our stay). The house was very clean and had everything you could need for a holiday, even some books and games and even a store out the back for wellies/outdoor stuff (although we didn’t use it). Beds and pillows were very comfortable - we slept so well whilst there!! The location is brilliant - so close to all the amenities of Bowness but also within walking distance of Windermere and some local walks too. For anyone with little ones, the stairgates (to the open plan living area on the lower ground floor and bedrooms on the top floor) were so useful as our baby was on the move by the time we stayed! And there was a high chair and travel cot provided too. All of which were a good, clean standard. Made travelling with a baby much lighter!! Having the parking space was a godsend as we’ve stayed in other local properties without a parking space (only a road parking permit) and trying to find a space at the end of a day out was a nightmare. The space is a little tight but we managed to park a Volvo XC90 in it, so it’s big enough for a large 4x4! Would 100% stay at Ivy Bank again - in fact we’re looking to book for 2023 so think that says it all!

Lovely neutral and up-to-date decor. Kitchen was well equipped. Although space was a little tight between the dining table and cooker the rest of it felt nicely open. We had ordered a supermarket delivery to the cottage and were worried there may not be enough space. We were really pleasantly surprised when we found 2 fridges in the kitchen (one under the counter fridge, and one 3/4 free standing fridge freezer). One of the beds (downstairs room) was uncomfortable and creaked loudly every time we rolled over but, as there were only 4 of us in the cottage, we were able to move to the smaller but more comfy room upstairs. Pillows on beds were lovely and comfy - so much so we purchased some for ourselves when we got home! It took us a while to workout the underfloor heating but it was beautifully toasty once we had worked it out. Log burner was also a lovely treat. Parking space was a real bonus, although it was a squeeze for a large car (XC60) we managed it with a bit of shuffling around to park diagonally. Advert says street parking for any further vehicles but, there weren't many spaces nearby even though we went at a fairly quiet time. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Windermere and would definitely recommend this cottage.

Very well equipped - kitchen has everything you need and more. Property is very clean and extra measures due to COVID were clearly taken i.e open windows, which was really good to see. First floor bathroom was really nice, modern and clean! Bedrooms were great and beds were comfy, however pillows were a little hard (thankfully I had taken my own anyway!). Every room has a TV which was great for the evening, although the TV's in bedrooms are a little on the small side. TV in the open plan lounge is a smart TV so we were able to access Netflix (which we were very happy about!) Internet connection was good, although occasionally dropped out for a couple of seconds but this was not very often. Location is brilliant, literally a 30 second walk to the shops, and a 5 minute walk down to the lake. Car parking space is small but fit our estate car in at an angle (just). This is much earlier than anywhere we have stayed before and was not specifically reiterated to us. It may have been in the initial generic booking email however as this is so out of the ordinary I feel an email to clarify this may have helped. There was no shower gel in any of the bathrooms which would be a nice touch. Also the sink in the en-suite poured all over the floor when it was turned fully on. Also the place smelt like dogs had stayed previously upon arrival. The house however was lovely and well furnished and aside from the early check out we would stay again.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We normally receive exceptional feedback for Ivy Bank but we are sorry it wasn't to your liking. Although it is a pet friendly property the owner makes every effort to ensure any associated smell or pet hair is removed after each guest's stay. Please also note that Ivy Bank is self-catering accommodation so the property owner is not obliged to leave shower gel but we will take your comments on board. Property Owner

The heating controls in the property were intermittent and even when we attempted to adjust the settings it didn’t seem to make any difference. Overall we really enjoyed the property and the decor was neutral and modern throughout. A slight criticism however is that for the amount we paid I would have thought we would have received limited basic amenities, we had to buy bin bags and washing up liquid, items which we are used to being provided with in properties we have rented. Also, there was no information in the property about refuse collection in the area so we were unsure when it would be collected and if there were any recycling facilities.

  • "A lovely property."

Well situated and equipped. I would not hesitate to go back. My only issue was around parking. The space at the back of the property is very tight - not suitable for an estate or bigger car. It would have been useful to have known this. I contacted Sykes in advance to ask about parking for a 2nd car and was told the owner did not provide a permit and that I would need to buy one (£30) & a link to do this was helpfully e-mailed to me. However there is a permit in the house for use parking in the roads around the property so buying a permit was an unnecessary expense. Unfortunately the map accompanying the permit did not show where it could be used as the info claimed - it was just a google map print out. I searched the internet to no avail. I did find spaces I thought it could be used for in but they did say for 'residents' and the permit said 'visitor' so I was not sure, and those spaces were always full. Some of the surrounding roads have unrestricted parking. So neither permit was really necessary in the end and the parking was not a problem.

  • "We had a lovely time, the cottage was very comfortable and pleasant."

The key collection was very smooth also. The correspondence between my self and the owner was smooth. The only thing that I can complain about is that the hot water went off and the radiators which meant it was very cold in the bedrooms. After contacting the owner regarding this she switched it back on via the hive as the hot water had been switched off which was disappointing. I found it quite unfair that this was done considering the price we paid. Luckily we had the open fire which was very cosy and warm.

Very impressed with the house and especially loved the ground floor kitchen diner, which was so cosy and wonderful underfloor heating. Clearly newly refurbished and looked very stylish.

  • "Overall a disappointment – Ivy Bank did not meet our expectations or your description."

Kitchen inadequately equipped - only one tea towel, small cafetière barely big enough for two, no teapot, no milk jug, no egg cups, only one oven shelf (apart from grill pan), no serving spoons etc etc. Fire starter kit lacked matches- they suggest you order wood but where do you store it? More cellar than basement - you say it has a sense of light and space but it is dark and we had lights on all the time. View from sink is of a wall a couple of feet away. View from the other end of the cellar (lounge) is of steps up to the small and difficult to access parking space. The parking space is not large enough for anything other than a small car. Instructions on use of parking permit would have been helpful. Instructions for the washing machine would have been useful. It is advertised as having a fridge freezer but what it actually has is two fridges one of which has a small very frosty ice box. The property was clean with the exception of the sticky sofas with crumbs and hairs between the cushions which I cleaned. 'Hotel standard' family bathroom is cold - the radiator is too small and the tiled floor would benefit from under floor heating. The bath is rather small - too small for me at 5'5" and a size 10. The mirror in the bathroom and the very small ensuite appear to have lights that do not work. I would have expected more than one set of keys.

Many thanks for your valuable feedback, we are very disappointed that one of our properties has seemingly let us down and not provided you with the experience that we had hoped for. I can see we tried to call you to discuss this further and we have already informed the owner to ensure these issues will be actioned. Property Owner

A great location just 3 minutes walk from Bowness centre, it was spotlessly clean throughout and the rooms were all really spacious and comfortable. Couldn't have asked for anything more from a holiday cottage for our Lake District weekend. Thank you!
