  • "Lovely location we really enjoyed our stay in Bowness and the central location was great for us as we were attending a family wedding."

The house was lovely and comfortable a few of the lamps didn’t work and could do with bulbs checking, and the tv in the main room reception was a bit intermittent but may have been the weather. Overall a great stay thank you

  • "The property is great, right on the edge of Windermere Lake and by the shops and cafes in Bowness."

We had stayed in the property some time ago and were really pleased that we could book it again. My son -who the holiday was for - knew the house, & because of his disabilities this was essential. The service from Sykes was poor. We asked Sykes to contact the owner and ask if we could have a Saturday to Saturday stay. Travelling in the UK is difficult on a Friday, Saturday is easier our journey would take 6-7 hours. Skyes refused point blank and told us if we wanted Saturday to Saturday we would have to pay two weeks rent,. We asked if we could book for 8 nights and leave on the Saturday, again told no we would have to pay for two weeks. The property was available either side of the week we wanted, so it should not have been a problem. We had paid a deposit on the house to secure it (outside their contact hours) Sykes would not return our deposit so we were trapped. So beware - there is no flexibility or customer support if you make a mistake or want anything slightly different.

  • "This is our second stay in this home."

The house is in the perfect location and is a great size for our our family to all be together. However, the place was covered in black dog hairs which did vacuum up after the going through the place 3 times. Also before bathing my Grandson we had to clean the bath as that was full of hair. I note from the visitors book that this has been mentioned before. Unfortunately this will mean I would not book again.

Everything we needed was there and right in the centre of windemere. We would definitely book this property again and recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Windermere.

Thanks for the review Anne Just to be accurate for other potential guests - the house is near the pier right on the lake at Bowness on Windermere - its not in the village of Windermere. Property Owner

  • "Upon arrival at the property at the stated time of 4pm we found that we couldn't access the property as the cleaners were still preparing the apartment."

As 4pm is quite a late check in I would expect that we would be able to start our holiday at this time instead of having to sit in our car waiting for the cleaners to finish. Otherwise a very enjoyable, comfortable stay.

  • "This is large accommodation and centrally located."

However it is on a very busy road, the road noise was so bad we had to shout over it to be heard. The rear balcony is filthy and has no seating. The glass on the main balcony had finger prints from previous guests' children. The garden is not enclosed so not good for dog owners or children. The pillows are very flat. The main bathroom shower temperature control is very poor and on constant hot. The bath panel needs cleaning. I would also suggest there are more windows that open in the master bedroom as the curtains block the open windows so no air can enter. Not great in the high temperatures we experienced. Not airer for washing.

Hi Gaynor Thanks for your feedback. I am sorry that you found the road noisy but that is one of things we can't control as it reflects the fact that the property is right in the middle of Bowness near the piers. I will forward your comments on the balcony and the bath panel to the cleaning company. We have had a number of cleaning related issues over the past six months and both ourselves and Sykes have taken this matter up with the cleaning company as its an area which wish to improve on. The garden is not enclosed and not advertised as such, but there is seating at the front which is protected from the road by a gate. We have experienced a number of breakages on outdoor seating - which is why we have provided substantial furniture to the front at ground level, but we will take your comments on board. There is a washing line in the garage however we will act on your suggestion to provide an airer. Thank you once again for your feedback. Best regards Paul & Sue Property Owner

  • "There was plenty of space for 8 people in the property which was very good however we found the small fridge (which has a broken shelf) a little on the tight side with so many people needing fed!"

Cooking pots were in excellent condition, which for me is such a huge bonus! (Often is self catering places pots can be a bit neglected!) Some elements of the property were dated and broken, for example the patio furniture was wobbly, the bbq was really dirty. The balcony and the balcony furniture could also do with a clean. Location is excellent, with eveything you need just a very short walk away.

Hi Aga Thank you for your feedback. We have subsequently purchased a second fridge which is situated in the garage above the freezer. We appreciate that the built in fridge in the kitchen might be too small for 8 guests who are planning to eat in so hopefully that will not be a problem in future. We have also raised your concerns on cleanliness with the cleaning company regarding the balcony and the patio furniture. Thanks for pointing this out and we will try and ensure we hold the cleaning company to the correct standard. Best regards Paul & Sue Property Owner

Our only complaint is microwave is inadequate. It needs to be larger. The beds in the two twin rooms on the second floor and the ground floor room double are very poor and uncomfortable and need replacement. Otherwise this is a great house in a great location. Robert Crawford 07966 177728

Hi Robert Thank you for your feedback. We have only owned the property for the last year and we are looking to improve the experience. We will definitely look at the microwave and get a bigger one. We will also look at replacing the mattresses in the near future too. I hope the next time you come back ypu will see the difference. Once again thanks for the constructive feedback. Best regards Paul & Sue Property Owner

  • "The location of the house was perfect for our holiday and the general facilities were fine but there were a couple of issues."

When we arrived, just before 6pm, 3 of the 8 beds weren’t made up, but this was rectified by the cleaners within an hour or so after a quick phone call. We found that the ground floor bedroom was cold overnight which was surprising in August. The lounge only comfortably seated 6 people, and the house was set up for 8, a couple of our party were either sat on dining room chairs or on the floor. The cleanliness of the property wasn’t as you’d expect in the current climate. The seal at the bottom of the shower screen leaked and was green-so hadn’t been cleaned this year at least. You could also clearly see finger prints in the doors so they also hadn’t been properly cleaned. As we couldn’t get access to the house before 5pm we expected the house to be spotless. Having said that, we had an enjoyable stay.

  • "Location and facilities were great."

We arrived one hour after the allotted check in time and the cleaners were still cleaning the property. The cleaners said to us that they couldn’t hoover as there were parts missing. The ground floor and stairs between ground and floor one were particularly dirty. We raised with the maintenance number given, they said they would sort it out - it never was. Property floors were not clean which should be a minimum expectation.

  • "First of all we have no issue with your company."

We found you extremely helpful and very understanding! On our arrival the property had not been cleaned and the bedding and towelling had not been changed. Given the pandemic this was appalling particularly as we had 3 young hungry children with us! Outside of the property was particularly grim in that there was a skip and a pile of rubbish close by. This was most unappealing. Whilst the owner then organised cleaners to come to the property when they arrived they were rude and grumpy! Alongside this, the three bedrooms upstairs were extremely hot and there was only two working fans. Also, the kitchen was poorly equipped no serving bowls. Although the owner paid for our meal that evening he did not think that we should be offered any more than minimal compensation of £40. He did ask us what we thought would be adequate compensation when we suggested a figure he refused which left us feeling very awkward! So while the location was great, we would not recommend this property.

  • "On a positive note, the location of the property was excellent."

A stones throw away from the lake and bars / restaurants. On a less positive note we were not allowed into the property until after 17:00, despite being told access would be granted by 16:00. After travelling 4+ hours with two small children and a baby this was somewhat of an inconvenience. I understand that in the current situation (due to covid) extra care and attention is needed to ensure cleanliness, however this was not the case. Upon entry my family and I were shocked at the standard of cleanliness, especially when an extra hour was provided to carry out the cleaning. Clearly the residents previous to us had a dog in their company as almost ever carpet / laminate floor was thick with dog hair, which implies the floors had never seen a vacuum cleaner or mop. Also the lower shelf of the coffee table was thick with dust.......and again more dog hair.......which raises the question, were the surfaces cleaned? The living room window was filthy inside and out from what looks like dog nose marks rubbing against it. Furthermore we requested a highchair as my sister has an 8 month old baby. This was very kindly provided for us, however it had also clearly never been cleaned. Finally, numerous fans were provided which were welcomed as our weather was extremely good, however...yet again...they were thick with dust. So to conclude.....In the current environment I can forgive the fact that we could not get into the property until over an hour after initially informed. However when clearly very little or no cleaning has taken place this is not acceptable. I have no issue with allowing dogs to stay in holiday lets, but surely extra care and attention should be taken for cleaning up the inevitable mess that they leave behind? The providing of extra facilities such as highchairs and desk fans is great, but if you are going out of your way to provide these surely the should also be clean? On a final note, I did contact the cleaners directly and to their credit they did come fairly quickly to run a vaccum around the house. I would have happily done this myself but their was no vaccum cleaner on the premises. I hope you have found this feedback useful? Other than the cleanliness of the property our holiday was great. Kind regards

  • "A very smooth experience from initial booking, through to being informed of all details along the way."

The property was very clean and comfortable and met all our needs. There were even fans in the bedrooms, which is the first time we’ve experienced this! Bravo to the owners! The only slight fly in the ointment was that having been told that we could enter the property from 4 pm, we arrived at 5pm, to find that the cleaners were still there and as a result, there was nowhere to easily park up and wait. They seemed surprised when we arrived!! They said they’d be approx 15 mins if we wanted them to mop the floors. Seeing as the floors are all laminate, I doubt that 15 mins would have sufficed? We returned at 6 pm. I know it sounds picky but after a 5hr journey, it was a tad frustrating. All in all, a very enjoyable stay in a very nice property. Very conveniently located too.
