  • "This is our 4th time staying at the oaks cottages, we have stayed in a different cottage on each of our stays."

The cottage was lovely, clean and comfortable. The views and relaxing in the hot tub is a great way to end your busy days. The staff are really helpful and lots of little added extras when we arrived including local produce and coffee in a welcome pack. I would definitely recommend this holiday for families the location is quiet and peaceful and not far to walk, drive or take a taxi to Bowness and the lake. I am sure we will be back again for another family holiday soon.

Thank you so much for taking the time to send this feedback. The Oaks Team really appreciates hearing that our guests have had such a great stay and that this is your 4th time staying with us! Also thank you for recommending us and we hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "Yew cottage was beautiful, comfortable and spacious."

We had everything we needed in the kitchen and even cooked a roast dinner! I’d read that certain things weren’t provided like tea towels and oven gloves but these were there for our use. One useful item would be to add a dishcloth to wipe the sides and dining table after meals. Ducks were frequent visitors to the delight of my daughter, they’d all gathered around one day whilst we were in the hot tub! The walk into town was not what we expected, I thought either it’d be a road or quite a straight path through fields but the main road has no pavement and too dangerous and the countryside walk had lots of left and right turns. Brant fell is a pleasant walk you can do from the cottage. The main improvement would be the washing machine and dryer, it took so long to dry our clothes and we were relying on it. I think Lake Lovers policy of guests having to take out the rubbish and strip all the beds needs to be reviewed, we did this at 4am before a 7-8 hour drive and have never had to do that before.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give such a detailed review of the property and your stay and it sounds like there were many highlights and memories made. There is one walk down to Bowness from the property that has a road with little or no pavement but generally drivers are aware of the possibility of walkers along the roadside and it is a 30mph limit on the road. If you were to stay with us again you could speak to staff on site and they would recommend a different route, which has more pavements and off road options. There should have been a dish cloth in the property as this is part of our kitchen pack and we are sorry that this wasn’t there, had this been highlighted to staff during your stay we could have brought one over for you. The washer dryer in the property is sufficient for doing little bits of holiday washing and it would take time to dry large loads, as this is not really what it is designed for. However, we do have large tumble dryers on site that if we were asked we could have dried clothing for you. The request to empty bins and strip beds is a request that we have in place to encourage guests to leave properties tidy so that cleaners can spend the time on the cleaning, but it is a request and not a ‘must do’ so we will look at the wording of this in our information. • "Great cottage, hot tub was amazing, spacious and overall 10/10 cannot complain."

Would happily return. Potential Improvements: 1. Just to manage our expectations, would be good to update the listing and binder with the 10:25pm hot tub shut off time instead of 11pm but no problems there. 2. WiFi was hit and miss, it was slow and did stop working 2 of the evenings but minor inconvenience. 3. Some utensils and some pans weren't properly clean but again minor inconvenience. Overall, nothing to really complain about, was a lovely area and very close to town. Sarah and Jo were very responsive whenever we had a question so thanks to the both of them. Log Burner was amazing too, loved it. Look forward to returning in the future.

We were particularly impressed with the extent of kitchen accessories and childrens plastic plates/cups together with cot, gate and highchair. The property was perfect for us, hot tub well managed, towels provided and utility room was a great addition with further facilities. Grounds were lovely and very peaceful, ducks, pheasants and little bunnies paying a visit. Our stay was excellent, the simple things of nice furniture in bedrooms, mirrors at the right hight with plug sockets nearby and great lighting cannot be underestimated. All in all an excellent stay, I’m sure we will return.

  • "Nice sized accommodation."

Easy parking. Quiet location. We loved the hot tub. Well equipped kitchen. Could do with a colander. Comfy seating. Good sized dining table. Bedrooms nice and beds comfortable. General cleanliness was satisfactory. Utility room a great asset for larger families. Fridge/freezer appreciated. Minor things to improve: Utility room door did not fit and therefore would not lock. One of the kitchen cupboard doors was loose. Downstairs bedroom had spiders in all 4 corners when we arrived. Downstairs shower room also had cobwebs clearly visible. Mop head supplied was not compatible with mop handle!

  • "A very comfortable cottage."

It was lovely and bright with skylight windows. It was very well equipped and the hot tub was great. Unfortunately we never discovered the utility room until the last day when I asked about the hot tub towels. Maybe this useful space and bigger fridge/freezer could be pointed out when people arrive in case the same thing were to happen to others. The lady in the office on the Thursday morning was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and passed on information to us regarding paddle boarding and where to head which we did and had a great day. The cottage has lovely surrounds, very green with lots of wildlife, the ducks were frequent visitors. Its also very close to Bowness which is a good base to explore the lake district, do expect to spend quite a lot of time on the roads though due to traffic in the busy summer months and lots of single track roads which do help to preserve this beautiful area. We had a lovely stay. Thankyou. Christine.

The cottage was spotless on arrival and had a lovely feel to it. We felt relaxed straight away. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. Lots of walks from the doorstep and the hot tub was fantastic and was also spotless. Very generous treat of gingerbread went down well and also the starter kit for the fire was very generous. Although the log burner did seem to make the whole cottage smell smoky. Other than that I can't fault the place. Especially during a power cut due to the storm when the management sorted out a tea van to come and get everyone hot drinks. Lovely touch. We will hopefully be back.

  • "The cottage was superb for our family New Year gathering."

The only thing that there wasn't enough hot water for the 7 of us to shower in the mornings, only enough for 3 to shower then had to wait over an hour for the water to re heat. If the cottage accommodation is for a certain amount of people then surely there should be enough constant hot water. This meant we weren't able to go out early in the morning for the day as planned therefore we felt that we lost a lot of time hanging around waiting for the water to re heat which certainly put a dampener on the holiday. The downstairs toilet broke aswell. The caretaker did come out straight away to fix it which was good service.

  • "My friends and I had a most enjoyable stay at this cottage."

The cleanliness of the property was exceptional and we were delighted to have been treated to Kendal mInt cake and some locally home made fudge. Unfortunately we had two complaints. The modern hive heating system failed to work. On the Sunday I tried phoning the office and mobile number to no avail. I then sent a text message to the mobile number and eventually we were contacted. We were told to wait half an hour for it to work but it didn't so I rang again and told to wait another half an hour but still no joy. However, we discovered the following morning on our departure, from Martin, that the boiler needed rebooting! We would not have been able to reboot the boiler as a key was required! The other complaint was the smell coming from the two upstairs bathrooms. We think the cesspit was beside our cottage. Also, you may wish to update your cottage description. All three double bedrooms converted into twin rooms but when the booking was made the description stated that only two doubles converted to twins. A friend who could have stayed ended up booking a local B and B for two nights. Although we had these issues we did have an enjoyable stay and the hot tub helped keep us warm! Would recommend to family and friends.
