  • "Beautiful place!"

plenty of room with everything we needed. Very spacious and comfortable in a great location! Fantastic hosts, I called to get the sofa bed made up (which I should have done before arriving) but this was no trouble and all sorted within 20mins! We climbed Pen Y Ghent, the stables is at the bottom of the trial. We took short drive into settle for a takeaway and ate at the gold lion the 2nd night after our walk (food was average). We would stay here again

  • "Authentically converted stone-built stables with a lot of original features."

Just off the main road but very quiet when I was there in December. Significantly bigger than it appears from the photos. Based on mezzanine floors so unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems.

Thank you for your feedback on The Stables. In order to keep as many original features as possible the cottage accommodation is on a range of levels with small flights of steps leading to the different areas. This is part of the charm of the property. Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved our stay and found the Stables charming and spacious for the most part (there were a few areas where taller visitors need to be wary)."

The guest experience was well thought out and the feeling on arrival was very welcoming to both humans and canines alike. The location also provides convenient parking and stunning views. St Oswald's Church to the rear of the property is very charming, and you may even meet the very friendly Vicar. My only slightly negative observations are: There were a few cobwebs, particularly in the shower, and considerable amounts of visible dust above the kitchen cabinets when ascending the stairs. Therefore I feel it could be just a little cleaner. Guests may need to be prepared for noisy hill walkers passing by at 6am if you visit in the peak season. Overall, I would highly recommend The Stables and really enjoyed staying there.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you loved your stay at The Stables. We can only apologise about the cobwebs in the shower, but we do seemed to be plagued with prolific spiders at the moment. Unfortunately we can not do anything about the enthusiastic 3 peaks walkers setting off on their challenge as they seem unaware not everyone is taking part. On the plus side it is usually only one morning a week. We hope to welcome you back to The Stables in the future. Property Owner

We met the owners when we were there (they are lovely) and they said they have provided new pics last November but they still haven't been updated. Would stay here again in a heartbeat

My only complaint is the mattress in the master bedroom. You can feel the springs through the material, this did not make for a good nights sleep. That said, it would not prevent me staying again in the future.

Thank you for your feedback. We were pleased to hear you thought the cottage was wonderful. It was disappointing to read you had not had a good nights sleep in the master bedroom. When replacing the mattress we had opted for a traditional pocket sprung mattress. We appreciate that there is nothing like your own bed, and many of us like different types of mattresses and so have added a topper to the bed to give an extra layer of comfort. We found the cottage well equipped and comfortable. In terms of what would improve the quality of our stay a few more spoons and the radiator in the downstairs toilet may remember getting hot but doesn't manage it now. The lovely welcome and delightful lambing service at St Oswalds invites us to hurry back. Only had one dishwasher tablet which was a shame because had brought all my other provisions from home to avoid shopping.. Welcome packs for dog and us were also above expectations and a lovely touch . The range is of a higher spec than would be expected of a holiday let and the kitchen well equipped. Situated where it is, this cottage would be ideal as a base for the three peaks, with one view from the road showing the cottage and Penyghent in the background. But there are lots of alternative days out nearby. The owners have carefully tended beautiful flower baskets around the outside of the property. This is a dog friendly home away from home, but is none the less kept clean and tidy.

A fabulous base for walkers or those wanting to explore the Dales by car. The cottage is on a side road close to the road through the village, but we weren't disturbed by any noise from the road. Parking is in a space directly opposite. The photos don't do it justice, there is a lot of space in this cottage and we liked the extra sitting area upstairs. • "We have stayed at The Stables previously, which is why the cottage did not exceed our expectations."

The cottage is beautiful and homely with many luxurious touches, but we feel that it is a little misleading to list it as being in a 'peaceful location' as it is but a stone's throw from the busy B6479 which, although relatively quiet during the evening and night, becomes very noisy from 6 am onwards on weekdays with lorries going to and from Horton quarry thundering past and a steady flow of other traffic and numerous motorcycles at weekends. There are also times when visitors to the cottage may also be woken early by parties of walkers attempting the Three Peaks challenge. On a previous visit, we watched 800 walkers going past (from 5 am onwards) which we found entertaining, but which could have annoyed others. We feel that the cottage would benefit from a full-length mirror, a bread bin and clear instructions for operating the cooker. Otherwise, a fantastic holiday can be enjoyed at The Stables, and we would definitely visit again.
