  • "What an amazing cottage in a small village with spectacular views."

We used it as a fantastic base in and out of the lakes and intend to come back to explore the Pennines as well. The pre call was fantastic as e arrived late at night and knew where to park. Directions were clear and spot on. So pleased we came through Sykes and found this cottage. Will be using you guys again!

  • "The place was lovely, as were the owners."

Everything there that you need, very clean and comfy beds. You only met are expectations as we had already read it was a lovely place , and we weren’t let down. The only issue, and not a lot you can do about it really , was that we have two toilet hogger children, so with only one toilet , this caused some consternation at times . everything was lovely and we had a lovely week. Thank you !

  • "Amazing cottage."

Had everything you need and more. Stunning gardens stunning views beautiful quiet village with friendly people. Fresh eggs everyday from a house in the village. Can’t wait to come back soon. Owners contacted us a couple of days prior to our holiday, gave us lots of useful information about the local area and places to eat really lovely lady.

  • "Amazing views from every window of the cottage and a pretty enclosed garden completely dog proof."

Disappointed the local pub had closed down but a lovely walk to the next village pub a mile and a half way. We were fortunate to see red squirrels on route too.

  • "Amazing cottage with walks on the doorstep (literally)."

Well proportioned and fully equipped. Parking is an issue due to changes with bus route so no parking directly outside cottage however neighbour allows you to park in front of hers . Would worry if you have more than 1 car. Master Bedroom was laid out as a super king but is actually two singles zipped together making the middle of bed impossible to use, would be better replacing with proper mattress. This is a very minor critique of what is a perfect cottage , in perfect location for exploring the gorgeous Eden Valley ... Will very much book again

Thank you for your feedback! We are really pleased that you found Pennine View a perfect cottage in a perfect location for exploring, and we hope the very minor critique of the super king bed didn't spoil things for you. Unfortunately, as mentioned in the property information the super king bed has a zip and link feature to allow the flexibility of converting to two single beds, which some visitors request, so it's not possible to have a super king mattress. For this reason we use the thickest type of mattress protectors but will now try to source some even thicker ones. Property Owner

  • "A beautifully clean and well presented cottage with lovely views of the hills."

It was a great base for us to explore locally (Most notably the High Cup Nick walk) as well as visiting the Howgills and the Lakes. Appleby is close by and Dufton has a lovely tea shop and pub. The amenities were comfortable and ideal for just 3 of us. The garden is really well kept and we enjoyed sitting out when the weather allowed. The area is quiet in terms of tourists so a great place to stay and enjoy and very easy to travel around.

  • "This was the perfect place for us to use as a base to explore the stunning surrounding area."

Everything was very organised with clear instructions on how things worked, I also received a courtesy call from the hosts confirming I had everything needed. The house was very well equipped and we had everything we needed to cook. The views from the bedroom windows and the beautiful garden were stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay here and will definitely be returning in the future!

  • "The cottage was tastefully decorated with all amenities and very welcoming."

Beautiful well maintained garden and scenic views of Pennine hills from our rooms. We had a comfortable stay and a memorable holiday with family. We connected with nature on the walking trails, around the lakes and on the hills. Also had an unforgettable trekking experience with llamas and alpacas. I would recommend this cottage which is close to so many areas of outstanding natural beauty spots and I would love to come back here.

The cottage is comfy and warm. It was thoughtful to leave a welcome tray which included a drink for our daughter. Views are magnificent. We came especially to walk High Cup Nick and were not disappointed. Weather very kind, would come again.

  • "Lovely place for a quiet retreat."

Cottage cosy and warm - like a home from home! Shame the local pub was closed but the Stag Inn is well recommended and we walked from that area. Would stay for longer next time.

About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
