  • "The best stay we have ever had!"

Such lovely views, comfy bed and amazing tub! On our last day after a town wide power cut between 7:30am and 10:40am meant we had no hot water or power.l, the hosts were kind enough to let us stay an extra hour so we could shower before we left once power was back. Talkin Tarn has always been very sentimental to me and even more so now that on this trip my boyfriend proposed! We will 100% be back!

Praise indeed, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back, perhaps for your honeymoon! Property Owner

  • "The cottage and the surroundings are sublime."

Beautiful views across the tarn, and the terrace/patio is a lovely area to enjoy breakfast and the outstanding scenery. The decor and fittings are very tasteful and the whole atmosphere is welcoming and extremely relaxing. We will definitely be booking the cottage again for next year.

  • "Stylish but STINGY."

For a luxury cottage, with the price tag to match, the fact that there was no welcome pack, not a grain of sugar, a crumb of bread (although we could have feasted on the old, old crumbs that were living in the dirty toaster). No foil, no cling film and, not even soap in the bathrooms. Come on. We pretty much holiday in the UK every time and have stayed in many cottages and our bookings are appreciated with a welcome pack to get us started on our holiday. This place is clearly just a cash cow for the owner AND it was grubby, the walls are scuffed, we don't think it had been cleaned before our arrival, it whole place was dusty, the floor was mucky, there was a holey, smelly teatowel on the oven door - We won't be booking with this Property Owner again. Champagne money charged with ginger beer offerings. Oh and the shower leaks too.

Thank you for your feedback and may we firstly apologies for the standard of cleanliness at the cottage. Our usual cleaner was on holiday and unfortunately we had a cover cleaner who we had not used before. The cottage had been cleaned, but regrettably not to the standard we expect for our guests. During Covid we had to remove all unpackaged foods, this included tea, coffee, sugar etc but we agree this could now be reinstated. We do normally leave toiletries but unfortunately our cover cleaner did not leave these out. Welcome packs are very subjective with the number of regulations and dietary requirements now in force and it does prove difficult to find a suitable welcome pack that suits all guests, however we do appreciate it is the small things that make a big difference and we will look at ways in which we can provide a suitable welcome gift appropriate for all guests. We are disappointed you did not call us on arrival or mention any of the issues when we were chatting during your stay, in fact you were very complimentary of the cottage, we would have immediately taken steps to rectify these for you had you mentioned any of the above. We have now received the laundry back from the cleaners and the tea towel does not have any holes and the shower is not leaking or dripping However, we do hope despite the above you were able to enjoy your holiday in the beautiful surroundings of the Tarn and we hope you will consider returning to the cottage and give us the opportunity to prove this has been a regrettable one off. • "No grill rack and smoke detector constantly going off when grilling breakfast"

Hi we are sorry you had issues with the smoke alarm going off and can understand this could be frustrating, however we do take our guests safety seriously and we are pleased to note these are working well to keep you and the neighbours safe. We will look at supplying a grill rack for future guests. Property Owner

About the location

BRAMPTON, CUMBRIA

Carlisle 10 miles.

The market town of Brampton is the ideal base for exploring Hadrian’s Wall. The town boasts a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border reivers from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings, plus bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton. In the centre of the town is Moot Hall, which was built in 1817, and now houses the Tourist Information Centre, and there is a large motte to the east of the town, which is 135 feet high and has the statue of the 7th Earl of Carlisle on it. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 120 acres of farmland and woodland, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Two miles away is Gelt Woods, which is an ancient woodland and RSPB nature reserve and has the River Gelt running through it. Brampton is a wonderful base for exploring this historic and scenic area.
