  • "Lovely house in a great location in Bowness, high standard of interior and cleanliness!"

Which is not always a given with pet friendly accommodation, safe secure yard for our dog, we loved our stay and would book again!

  • "Great property, undersold because it didn't seem to mention the off street parking which it does have."

Sykes were really helpful and prompt especially considering we booked very late notice (the morning of our arrival). Altogether wonderful house and experience. The one bad point which needs mentioning was the strong smell of cannabis in the main bedroom during the night and that neighbours were clearly smoking cannabis in their garden in the evenings, we wouldn’t return for that reason but I understand not possible to control the behaviour of people in neighbouring properties.

We love this property and the location is perfect. The only thing negative and it’s a minor negative is the blinds in the third bedroom need to be black out blinds it too light

We are so pleased you enjoyed your return visit! Thank you for your feedback. We have now fitted blackout blinds for both the sash window and skylight in the third bedroom. We hope to welcome you again soon! Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Highbank."

The home was comfortable, cosy and warm. It felt like home from home! We would definitely go back again. We were disappointed that the washing machine was broken as my family travelled from the States and had limited clothing. This was only a minor detail though and I would highly recommend Highbank. ( a new frying pan wouldn’t go amiss

Thank you for your lovely comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at Highbank. Our maintenance team went to the property to check the washing machine and we can confirm this was working. We hope to welcome you back again in the future! Property Owner

  • "This is our second year staying in the property on the same week."

We will hesitate booking again only because the cleaning is inadequate. We know that the choice we have is restricted when we have a dog and we have to compromise but when paying £1100, expecting some cleanliness is not unreasonable. Please never go on 4 in a bed as they will have a field day. Dust on every ledge and in every corner. Heavy Cobwebs above fridge and in en-suite. Under and behind the sofas never hooved. Dog hairs under cushions in lounge. Top floor bedroom behind the bed side table there is a stain on the wall from a drink spillage which was there when we stayed last year. I could go on and provide photos but frankly it is clear and obvious and not good enough. I would suggest paying the cleaners to spend an extra hour each week and a proper deep clean at least twice a year.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you were not satisfied by your stay at Highbank. We appreciate all your comments and suggestions and have passed them on to our housekeeping team. The owner relations team - Lakelovers Property Owner

  • "Our 2nd visit to Highbank."

We really like the location of this house as it is an easy stroll into Bowness and parking in the street outside or just around the corner in a nearby by street was always available. A clean, spacious house with a sunny courtyard style garden. The house comfortably accommodated us (4 adults and 1 infant, 1 dog) and had facilities for the baby, high chair and travel cot, although a stair gate would have been good addition to the house (we took our own).I would definitely recommend this accommodation.

Thank you for your feedback We are really glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We hope to welcome you back for a 3rd time again soon. The owner relations team - Lakelovers Property Owner

  • "Thank you for a lovely break."

We were a party of 5 adults and this property was a great size with all the amenities we could have asked for, in particular in the kitchen. Two en-suites and a house bathroom meant lots of privacy and the property was clean and tidy. Being a few minutes walk down into Bowness centre this house is excellently located and there was sufficient on street parking for 2 cars right outside the property. Thanks for a great stay.

Thank you for your kind feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you back again. Property Owner

Everything was as it is in the web page . my only criticism is not with the cottage itself but with the arriving and leaving times . 10.00 is very early to have to depart the cottage and maybe 4.00 is a bit late for the arrival, especially considering parking in the Bowness area is always a difficult situation. That apart it was a fantastic weekend in a lovely cottage

  • "Lovely comfortable and warm house with all the facilities that we needed for our stay in the Lakes."

The only negative observation is that the toilet in the front 1st floor bedroom had an intermittent issue which meant that the cistern would "auto-fill" very noisily which was disturbing during the night. Possibly just needs a new cartridge.

Thank your for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Highbank. We will pass on your comments regarding the toilet cistern to our Maintenance team to look into. We were sorry to hear about the damage to your car. We hope to welcome you back to the Lake District again. Property Owner

Very clean property. Kitchen could do with a few more items please; oven gloves, more saucepans, deep baking tray. Lots of cleaning products provided. However, it would have been nice to have a small welcome pack with some tea bags, coffee, sugar and milk. I would recommend this property and would stay again.

  • "A lovely big terraced house, in a really nice, well located street, amongst several other holiday lets."

All the important areas were very clean. The three bedrooms with bathrooms all on different levels was great for privacy. Parking was a cause for concern but on the whole, we managed to get parked somewhere, even if that did involve a walk. Didn’t use the garage, as it is quite tight with other neighbours parking nearby. Only little niggles with only six tea spoons, which with six people is not enough, when eating and making tea for example. I found the bed in the main bedroom much too hard and constantly awoke needing to move and I quite like a firm bed. Overall I would recommend it and would stay again.

The house is ideally located for a 2 minute walk down to the lake and all the local shops etc and a 15 minute walk uphill into Bowness itself. The house was very clean, very well maintained and we felt very comfortable there as soon as we arrived. We were able to get parked outside every day. A great base for exploring the lakes and surrounding area! Would highly recommend Highbank.

  • "The location was great, the house is lovely and we had a brilliant stay."

A couple of improvements would be black out curtains in the second and third bedroom, some shelving in the en-suite shower, fixing the screw that sticks up below the dining room door (I kept standing on it). We also missed having a cafetière and pizza slice, but these are very small things and did not spoil our stay at all.

  • "Lovely house which is ideally situated for Bowness on Windermere and Windermere."

Bowness on Windermere is approx 10/15min walk down the hill. A quiet residential street. Parking is on street and spaces can be found but not necessarily outside the property but there is use of a garage if required. The property is cosy and well kitted out. Sitting room with ample seating and bedrooms comfortable. It has a long galley kitchen which has enough utensils tho maybe some kitchen scales would be helpful. I would say the only down side is I feel the property needs a far better secure back door and the front door could do with another lock. It is a lovely place to stay and would definitely recommend to anyone.

Lovely house in a peaceful part of BoW but within easy walk of pubs, restaurants and great walks. New flooring in dining room and what looks like a new boiler show the owners commitment. A couple of things would be welcome though :- 1) a second door key, 2) set of drawers in the main bedroom- it could use more storage please Will we be back? As long as it’s price competitive, we will definitely return.

Thank you for your kind feedback. We would advise guests to make use of the key safe when going out of the property to prevent the need for multiple keys and avoid key loss. We will look to provide more storage in the main bedroom in the near future. We hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

The property

Highbank is a well presented, traditional slate Victorian Lakeland terrace house just a few minutes' walk from lively Bowness and Lake Windermere.

The front door opens to the hallway with coat hook and boot racks.

To the front there is a beautiful lounge, with comfy sofas around the feature Victorian fireplace, with open fire.

A large bay window allows the light to flood in.

Large screen TV completes the room.

To the rear, there is a spacious dining room with a large family dining table and a cosy log burning stove, ideal for a social dinner together.

The extended kitchen is well equipped with everything you need and an informal breakfast bar - ideal for the kids in the mornings!

The stylish bedrooms are arranged over the first and the second floor.

On the first floor the welcoming master bedroom has a king-size bed and small ens-uite shower room.

The second bedroom is a bright and airy double room and across the landing is the smart family bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and WC.

On the first floor, the third bedroom is a twin room with a high-level window looking out toward the Lakeland fells and a south-facing Velux for extra light.

This bedroom benefits from a small en-suite shower room with shower, basin and WC.

The rear south facing courtyard is furnished with bistro-style table and chair and is a lovely spot to relax with a morning coffee or a glass of wine.

On the eastern shores of Lake Windermere, Bowness is a sophisticated Lakeland village with so much to explore and enjoy.

Within minutes from Highbank, you can be enjoying walks with magnificent views such as to Biskey Howe, Brant Fell and School Knott.

Stroll to the lakeshore to hire a rowboat or powerboat or take an elegant cruise on one of the Lake Windermere steamers.

Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly to Ambleside and Lakeside; a wonderful way to explore without even using your car.

There are many excellent restaurants in Bowness and Windermere, all within walking distance, including champagne bars, contemporary wine bars and traditional pubs offering a range of great British and international cuisine.

There is something for everyone, both in the village centre and the surrounding countryside.

Windermere Golf Club is just outside Bowness village, on the way to the Lyth Valley.

This area is also renowned for gentle but very scenic walking, with a wealth of acclaimed Lake District country pubs to choose from.

Another great idea is to take the car-ferry crossing over Lake Windermere from Bowness, to visit the former home of Beatrix Potter in Near Sawrey, and the nearby picturesque village of Hawkshead.

Or go as a pedestrian and just explore Claife Heights and the lakeshore paths.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
