  • "Lovely cottage ."

..very homely and relaxing. Had everything you need and the owners very nice. I think we chose the wettest week of the year but that didn't dampen our time and explored nearby towns and places of interest. TV in every bed room so no reason not to relax in bed. My grandson enjoyed seeing the roaming chickens and the animals in the fields.

  • "Braystones Cottage is a lovely very old cottage in a very beautiful rural setting."

The kitchen, dining room and bedrooms are all very spacious and there is a cosy lounge. This house is very dog friendly which is ideal for dog owners. TVs are provided in every bedroom as well as the lounge and dining room. Certainly our bed was very comfy. Lots of hot water, nice bath and good shower and the heating was effective very quickly when we felt the need. Located on the very edge of the Lake District gives chance to check out the coast as well as taking short drives into the Lake District where we did several lovely walks away from the touristy areas. We saw the owner a couple of times and he was very helpful. The nearby pub serves excellent meals - esp Sunday lunch but book early! I loved this location and would recommend staying here.

Great place to stay to chill out.

  • "The cottage is well located for exploring the South Lakes."

The cottage is well equipped although some of the decoration and furniture is getting rather dated. The cottage is closer to the nuclear power station than we anticipated. Overall a nice stay but a little overpriced in our opinion.

  • "Cottage was as listed and matched the photos with lots of attention to detail and comfortable."

Beautiful location and near lots of beaches, fells etc. Although property is listed with WiFi this isbhared with the owners next door and can only be picked up by the communal wall. As the property is rural mobile service is very limited so you cannot hotspot (obviously, mobile limitations were expected but not the WiFi issue). Extremely minor thing worth noting is that bathroom is directly off the kitchen on the ground floor (this wasn't clear from the listing but is obviously not an issue). Despite the minor points noted above we would recommend this cottage and would stay again, just noting them to help others plan!

  • "The holiday cottage was lovely and had everything needed for a comfortable stay."

The only thing we would ask for is a decent frying pan as the one in the kitchen isn't great. House was lovely and very homely. More information on the surrounding area would be good as there wasn't much e.g. walks from doorstep etc. But we drove further afield which was nice.

  • "Welcoming Pack was much appreciated ~(especially the eggs)."

The owner met us soon after we arrived and was was very friendly and helpful. We had several chats with him over the week and he informed us of local features.. It was a very quiet area with beautiful views. The area is ideal for access to the western lakes and towns. Please note, however, although there is a station within a short walking distance there are very few stopping trains.

  • "Very good and quiet location, close to both coast and the lakes."

Very dog friendly. Local village of Braystones has no shop and the local pubs are now closed down which was a little disappointing. The cottage itself could do with a little updating, and could really do with cleaning properly between guests. However we had a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Apologies forgot to tell you we had problems lighting the bottom oven, so this might need checking. Very quite and spacious.

  • "We had had a lovely enjoyable stay."

Very quiet and peaceful in a good area to explore this beautiful part of the country. Could not fault anything about the cottage it was comfortable and cosey. Lovely to wake up in the morning on a farm with chickens running outside and the cows in the fields. Which I might add was still so peaceful, we expected to be woken up early hours to the cockle doodle hoo! Our little girl loved it and so did our English bulldog...neither of us wanted to come home. The owners are very nice and we thought it was a lovely touch to leave us fresh eggs, wine and milk in the fridge. We will certainly be returning as we didn't get to explore enough while we was only there 3 nights.

  • "Lovely, warm rural cottage."

Perfect for our family xmas break. Beach close by was perfect for walking the dog. The double beds were very comfortable. The bath was long which suited my tall partner. The landlord was very hospitable and helped to make sure we were ready for our special xmas. Memorable holiday.

  • "The cottage is located in a really quiet, idyllic location."

Perfect for a peaceful break away. The rooms are all well co-ordinated, plenty of room for four adults and two dogs! St Bee’s beach is a short drive away and dog friendly too. Our only criticism would be that the kitchen wasn’t as clean as we would have liked it to be, and our welcome on arrival felt a little odd. We were just told we were ‘next door, keys already in’. But the owners were kind to leave us fresh eggs and a bottle of wine, and we left the holiday feeling more rested and refreshed. If you’re looking for a quiet break on the Cumbrian coast, this is ideal.

  • "The cottage was lovely and in lovely surroundings, with nice little touches around the cottage."

The beds were really comfortable. The shower was nice and powerful. The only slight annoyances were the toilet seat, which kept coming off, and the cutlery / cooking utensils which were very cheap. We had a fab week, and we all enjoyed ourselves.

  • "I appreciated being able to flexibly book the days I required at short notice rather than having to fit in with fixed letting dates and minimum nights."

I realise this would be tricky at peak times. Quick and easy to book & pay with efficient responses. Good directions and easy access to the cottage. The owner kindly allowed me to arrive early as my journey went quicker than expected and the cottage was ready. I really appreciate this flexibility when possible. All was clean and tidy on arrival with a bottle of wine and some eggs - thanks The owners live next door and were unobtrusive but really anxious to be helpful if needed. The cottage is very tastefully furnished and colour co-ordinated. Lots of thought had been put into it's presentation. It was light and airy and all linen is provided. It is close to the local shingle beach which is within easy walking distance. The nearby Lakeland hills provide a pleasant view from the front rooms and good walks abound nearby. Please note the staircase is quite steep if disabled and the bathroom is downstairs, as is normal in small cottages. I really enjoyed my short break which enabled me to support a local elderly relative and even the weather was kind! Gill Barnes
