  • "I want to say I can't understand the few recent negative feedback this property has received as myself and my wife found everything at the stable cottage to be of a good standard especially the well equipped clean and modern kitchen and the place was much bigger than we realised and had a great ambience."

Want to sate the drive up to the property from the main road which someone had criticised was fine and being able to park right outside was a big bonus. Also we experienced very peaceful sleeps and heard no noise at night or in the early hours not even from farm animals apart from the relaxing sound of some sofly sounding singing birds in the mornings! I'm surprised some of the previous whingers that stayed here didn't moan about that as well !! The only thing I would moan about is the owners should highlight the fact that there's an amazing 7 mile circular walk right from the doorstep through some beautiful woods up to an old furnace and then onto an amazing low fell called Barrow where you get incredible views over the high central and southern lakeland mountain ranges and over to the sea & then onto an ancient 3500yr old stone circle in a place called swinside, In my opinion as someone who's been hiking in the lakes for over 20yrs this is a walk not to be missed if you're staying here. Also the night sky is amazing as there's no light pollution and we had some fantastic star gazing right from the doorstep as we were lucky to have a few clear nights. Overall I would highly recommend this accommodation if you want to stay in a place that's quite and very peaceful, well located to explore the western and southern lake district and great value for money.

  • "Lovely kitchen overshadowrd by large hedge making it dark."

Bathroom had cleaning issues, mildew on the wall by the window, toilet bowl dirty. Lots of heavy footsteps from upstairs tenants all hours of the night, the noise was intrusive.

My feedback is it’s an amazing place. Large and very clean. Peaceful and a lovely welcome hamper. Bed and bedding was soooo comfy. All and every facility in the cottage. Every thing for preparing a meal. Lovely hosts. I really enjoyed it and wanted to stay longer. I really recommend it and want to stay again many times. Al

  • "Cottage is in a lovely area with easy access to Coniston, Eskdale and Wasdale fells."

A few points though - the bedroom is directly under the living area of the apartment above (not made clear in description) and we were disturbed by lots of banging and clattering at midnight and 7am by the upstairs occupants. It was rather cold on arrival and difficult to work out the heating which is on a timer, though it did warm up eventually. The 250 yard lane leading to the cottage is very lumpy, bumpy and potholed, again not clear in the description. The standard and arrangement of seating is poor and very uncomfortable. Worst thing however was the wooden toilet seat - it was loose, cracked and the varnish had long worn off leaving bare stained wood - disgusting and very unhygienic. It needs replacing pronto. We tried to contact owners but we had poor mobile signal in the whole area. These things should be sorted prior to a holiday. We were out all day and enjoyed our holiday but won't be booking this cottage again.

Dear guest, thank you for your thorough feedback. What William and I want more than anything is for guests to feel happy, relaxed, cosy and comfortable during a break in Stable Cottage. It seems that you feel we have fallen short in those areas on this occasion and for that we can only apologise. We do welcome guests to contact us at any point during their stay and as we live only a short distance away from Stable Cottage, we are always available to help with any problems or difficulties they are experiencing. It seems you were unable to reach us and I am very sorry for that. It would have been a pleasure to come and help with the heating or to discuss the concerns you had about the seating and the toilet seat. It is regretful that we did not have the opportunity to resolve these issues during the time that you were our guests at Stable Cottage. We will of course look into each and every one of your concerns and explore how we can improve the experience which we offer to all of our guests in the future. You will be encouraged to know that a new toilet seat has been purchased and fitted already. (We were unaware that the old one had come loose!) We endeavour to make Stable Cottage as relaxing and happy a place as it can be. We are grateful for your feedback in helping us to do this. All the best for future holidays. Gemma Jardine. winter. It is so well-equpped and warm and the bed was comfotable. During a rather wet week we were able to dry our hiking gear easily. The exceptional welcome pack included fresh eggs from the hosts' hens.

  • "We had a lovely stay in this beautifully converted stable."

The standard of equipment is very high, the bed and seating very comfortable and we were warm enough even with temperatures that dipped below minus 5 degrees during each night of our stay! Our hosts were extremely helpful and welcoming ( the bottle of wine plus other snacks outscores the usual tea and biscuits provided by some distance) There are excellent footpath walks right from the doorstep and many choices of routes a little further afield.

About the location

BROUGHTON-IN-FURNESS

Millom 7.5 miles; Coniston 9 miles; Ulverston 9.5 miles.

Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to please the visitor such as a pretty, cobbled square complete with a splendid horse chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs and homes, many of them Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley and the quieter Lake District fells. Norman Nicholson, one of Britain's finest 20th century poets and William Wordsworth, both immortalised this area in their writing and poetry. The village was home to Branwell Bronte, brother of the Bronte sisters, for a short time. The Furness railway line runs from nearby Foxfield and makes for an ideal day out, travelling the west coast of Cumbria. Set amidst the charm of the Lake District and close to the sea, this attractive town makes an inspiring choice from which to further explore a magical heartland of silver lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely, heather-clad moors.
