“Lovely cottage in a beautiful quiet area.”
“This cottage is very well equipped with everything you need-a real home from home!”
The area is great for walkers like ourselves with the fells on the doorstep as well as easy access to the lakes and bigger towns too. It was great to come home to a warm cottage after long days walking and we also made full use of the wood burner with it's endless supply of wood! The cleanliness of this cottage together with the standard of fittings far exceeded what we expected for the low price that we paid for the week and we will definitely return in the future!
“Very comfortable cottage, welcome pack was an unexpected surprise.”
We had a really lovely week in very cosy surroundings, enjoyed the log burner and the ample supplies of wood etc. All the usual kitchen equipment was available, including a dishwasher and clothes washer, even if we didn't need them. We would and have recommended this place to our friends and any body else. We wanted a restful week and this is what we had, but there are plenty of places to visit locally, two pubs nearby and lots of good places to eat. Highly recommended.
“The views from Low Green Cottage are stunning.”
The cottage itself was clean, comfortable and well equipped with ample storage space. The log burning stove was fab and there was plenty of wood/kindle for us to use. The cottage is near a small river so there’s a lovely sound of water and lots of birdsong - Look out for the pheasant and woodpecker and the other birds that visit the neighbours bird feeder! The owner was very helpful and thoughtfully left tea/coffee/milk and biscuits suited to a food allergy. Kirkby Lonsdale and Sedbergh are a short drive away and there’s a lovely pub nearby you can walk to. We had a great week away and I’d recommend this cottage to others. It was excellent value for money too.
“Low Green Cottage was just perfect.”
Beautifully presented and equipped with everything you could possibly need. Gorgeous surroundings sheltering under a lovely fell, really nice garden, close to both the Lakes and the Dales, and very helpful and friendly neighbours. We loved the cosy sitting room, with a wood burner - plenty of logs left for us to use, which we made use of every night - lovely. The area is lovely too, with easy access to lots of good walking and other places of interest. We would highly recommend this cottage for couples, families or groups of friends, and we certainly hope to return sometime very soon.
“We loved the cottage it was so cosy and clean with a lovely welcome tray .”
The wood burner was great with the freezing weather that we had. We went to the local pub the swan for meals in the evening five minutes away. At night time it was so peaceful and really dark with all the stars in the sky. We would go back again all four off us
“Couldn't fault our holiday to Low Green, Excellent cottage, Excellent location and lovely people looking after you.”
We will definitely look for an opportunity to return. It is an excellent base to travel from to the Dales and the Lakes.
“This was our first trip to the Yorkshire Dale's.”
We took our two children who are 3 and 6 years old. The cottage was a perfect base to explore the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District. It had everything we wanted, it was cosy, comfortable and very clean. The owners in-laws lived next door, they were extremely friendly and helpful and the owners left a welcome package for us which included chocolates for the kids, tea, coffee, biscuits and milk. There was so much to do within a 40 min drive. We explored the Lake District and went to Windermere Lake, World of Beatrix Potter, Lakes Aquarium, Lakeland Motor Museum and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway. We also did a 5 hour walk along the Ingelton waterfall trail which was amazing but a challenge with young children. The town of Hawes was a lovely place to visit where they had the Dale's countryside Museum and Wensleydale Creamery which was really interesting. We would love to come back again one day and would reccomend the cottage.
“Great location, clean, friendly, comfy beds”
Great place to stay. Helpful neighbours made us feel very welcome. Comfortable beds, great outlook, centrally located. Would be happy to return
“Low Green is set in the quiet hamlet of Middleton, which is just a scattering of random cottages, farms and a pub, so if you want total peace and quiet plus dark starry skies this is the place.”
Although it is 'remote' it is still not far from Sedburgh or Kirkby Lonsdale and we found it an ideal base for touring both the Lake District & Yorkshire Dales. The cottage is comfortable, warm (lovely woodburner & efficient central heating) and has all the appliances needed to cater for 4 adults, plus a lovely patio area and garden which catches the afternoon sun. A great place to stay for those seeking peace & quiet yet near enough to the two local towns.
“Lovely cottage with everything you would need to have a restful break”
“Low Green cottage is an amazing hidden gem tucked away in a restful stunning location.”
The cottage itself is very well equipped .. Lovely walk in shower and comfortable bedrooms . Provided us with plenty of tea/coffee/milk/ biscuits on arrival. Home from home..an abundance of firewood supplied for warm cosy nights. Beautiful garden encouraging birds aplenty many species'. Informative neighbors with wonderful suggestions and knowledge of their local area and places to visit. Thanks for a very relaxing stay look forward to returning. Margaret, Phil and Fran
“The week we spent at low green was very pleasant, the cottage was as good as it was described, everything catered for and the helpfulness and friendliness of the owners was fantastic.”
It was in a beautiful setting so peaceful and easy to access the Yorkshire dales or the lakes. We had a couple of pubs to eat and drink within a ten minute drive or the local at the end of the lane. We would recommend this cottage and hope to return one day.
“We had a lovely holiday at Low Green Cottage.”
The house had everything you could need for a comfortable holiday, clean and well equipped. Fabulous peaceful location, with access to both the dales and the lakes. Loved the Churchmouse at Barbon. Thanks to the owners (and mum) friendly and helpfull.
“On arrival a well presented clean cottage and a welcome tea tray which was greatly appreciated.”
The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Help is at hand next door (owners parents) if you need anything. Lots of info on places to visit , lovely area outside.
“Second time we have stayed at this beautiful little cottage.”
Well maintained with all the facilities you need for a base when visiting the Lakes. Lovely location in the beautiful countryside. Cottage kept very clean. Owners family are next door and are very helpful and friendly without being intrusive. Left biscuits for us and Easter eggs for our kids on arrival which was lovely personal touch.
“Low Green Cottage was very comfortable, warm, and well equipped but its main attraction, for us, was the setting.”
The view on opening the front door (and from the bedroom window) was just stunning and far exceeded our expectations. We love quiet locations with easy access to walking and cycling and Low Green Cottage was perfect in that respect. With a pub just across the road as well, Low Green Cottage has it all. The owner's parents next door were lovely people and made us feel so welcome.
“A very well presented cottage in a very rural location, Low Green is a good base to visit The Dales and The Lake District and has pubs close by which you can walk to.”
“Lovely cottage that did everything we hoped it would.”
Lovely quiet location in touching distance of the places we wanted to visit. Enclosed garden great for children Thank you - would recommend
“The cottage was so well equipped.”
Very warm, lots of radiators, the log burner, blankets and noticed hot water bottles too. We took our 15 month old, and knowing there was no bath expected to wash her in the sink, but there was a very good sized baby bath and she loved it! There was also a bag of chocolate buttons for her, and the cot, high chair and fire guard were all set up. These things really made it extra special for us. We had a very lovely week in a very beautiful area. Also loved the pony!
“Absolutely fantastic cottage, beautiful views, astonishing landscapes!”
My partner and I were greeted by the most lovely lady on arrival and were both blown away by how accurate the description was. Great place for some peace and quite with a lot to see and do . We discovered some awesome pubs nearby with great food. We were very sad to leave and will definitely be returning soon. Thank-you for the great stay!!
“Low Green Cottage was excellent: spacious yet warm and cosy, with all facilities.”
“WOW. Peace and tranquillity.”
Absolutely fantastic cottage, beautiful views, astonishing landscapes! My partner and I were greeted by the most lovely lady on arrival and were both blown away by how accurate the description was. Great place for some peace and quite with a lot to see and do . We discovered some awesome pubs nearby with great food. We were very sad to leave and will definitely be returning soon.
“Greeted by a warm welcome and treats for our two children by the owners, this was a lovely cosy cottage that was a perfect base for exploring both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.”
The property was ideal for us and had everything we needed to be able to cook our own food most nights, and snuggling up in front of the log burner in the evenings was a great way to wind down after days out exploring with our kids. The pub over the road does excellent home cooked food and the nearby town of Sedbergh has some amazing second-hand bookshops and great little cafes. Kendal is only around 20 minutes away for bigger supermarkets and it only took around 40 minutes to drive to Windermere. We would definitely consider coming back to this property.
“A wonderful base to explore the Lake District and also the North Yorkshire area.”
The cottage is a great place to be with kids well stocked across the board, a great wood burner to keep you warm at night.
“A lovely cottage where everything had been thought about.”
You just had to walk in and unpack. Facilities were brilliant and everything you needed was supplied. A lovely warm welcome when we arrived and we enjoyed everything about it. Great location and great pubs nearby!
“The cottage was in a remote location with beautiful views and peace and quiet.”
“Low Green Cottage was even better than the description suggests, we had tea, coffee, milk and posh biscuits on arrival, the cottage was very clean, all facilities available and working well, an informative welcome pack about the household and area, the location was amazing.”
It seemed to us like the perfect haven, so beautifully perfect for exploring the Dales and the Lakes and we can't recommend highly enough.
A really nice, clean cottage which is out in the country but close to many villages and towns. The welcome pack we received was tailored to us and included something for the teenagers-a very nice touch. The two bedrooms are a good size with plenty of cupboard space. The kitchen is small but perfectly functional. They have just upgraded the TV and there are a few games in a cupboard if you would rather not watch telly. One point to note is that they don't have internet access-it may be an issue for some, but not for us. The back garden is just grass but it is large and you can sit out on the patio and watch the huge array of birds fly in and out of the neighbours gardens - woodpeckers etc. You would really need a car to stay there but there are lovely walks right on the doorstep. The neighbours - the owners parents - are very friendly and can recommend places to visit. There is a pub at the bottom of the lane which, when open, serves a decent pint of real ale. We had planned to eat there several times but each time we went, it was closed - so don't rely on this. You are within easy reach of many places - highlights for us included Lancaster, Morecambe, Windermere, Kirkby Lonsdale, Hawes, White Scar Caves, and Dent. We plan to return
“A great short break!”
We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of March and had a fantastic time. The only thing we could find fault with was the weather! COTTAGE: the cottage was lovely and cosy. When we arrived the first thing we noticed was how clean it was (it was spotless). A welcome pack made a nice touch, containing biscuits, tea, coffee, milk, local attraction leaflets and a book of useful information. Everything was there that we needed; we took up some things ourself like foil, washing up liquid and sponges, but there was no need as the cottage had everything. There was plenty of logs for the fire (we got through more than a bucket full!) with firelighters and matches. The tv was quite small but we didn't mind as we barely watched it. The hob did take a while to get used to as it is electric (we have gas) and the temperature numbers have worn off, but when our water wasn't boiling we soon realised we had turned the nob the wrong way! Due to the weather we didn't use the garden, but it was very large with a patio area which I'm sure would be great in summer. AREA: Middleton where the cottage is based is very small (which was nice!). Fields surround the cottage and it was nice to see the lambs running around. There is a pub (the swan inn) a few minutes walk down the road. It was very quiet when we went in on a Friday night, the owner was very friendly, the food good (with large portions) and the prices good too. We drove to Kirkby Lonsdale on market day (a Thursday) expecting a large market. However there was just a few food stalls, so instead we explored the many little shops, and took a walk to Ruthins view (beautiful). We also walked along the river which was very nice. It was a lazy stroll perfect for people who don't want to trek the many hills around! Kirkby Lonsdale has a huge array of pubs to choose from, we went to the Red Dragon which did great beer battered fish and chips. Bowness on Windermere is about a 30 minute drive from the cottage. We would definitely recommend one of the boat trips to make the most of the views from the lake, although wrap up when it is cold as it was extremely windy from the middle of the lake! Again, there is a huge array of little shops in Bowness. We did want to hire bikes for the day, however we thought the price was a bit steep at about £25 each. There is loads of free parking around the main park in Bowness, although I think it is only free from October to Easter. Bowness was very busy, so I imagine in summer it gets quite crowded! We had a really fantastic few days during our stay at the cottage; it really did feel like a home from home. Although the cottage only has 11 reviews on tripadvisor, the guest book contained pages and pages of raving reviews (I can only think these people don't use tripadvisor!). We would definitely recommend this cottage!
“Excellent, excellent, excellant!”
Me and my husband stayed here for a week in November, couldn't of asked for better weather. I was quite nervous booking the cottage as we'd been away in the summer to another cottage and it wasn't very nice... i was so happy to find this cottage was everything we wanted and more. The log fire at night was brilliant and plenty of logs to keep us going. The whole cottage was really clean and well kept. Was a nice break from the washing up thanks to the dish washer. Over all a very cosy feel to the cottage and its such a nice place we didn't mind just spending time to rest in the cottage, not going out. But its good it is near to the lakes and there's a big pack of information books to help with places to go. And the welcome pack was very much appreciated. We didn't want to leave. Thanks for a great holiday.
“Lovely short break”
We stayed here for a short break of 4 nights last month and had a really lovely relaxing break. It was in very peaceful surroundings, within easy reach of places we wanted to visit. We had looked at staying in the Lakes, but found that cottages were less expensive on this side of the motorway. The cottage was clean and very well equipped. In fact, there was everything we needed and I was really pleased to find tin foil in the kitchen on our first evening as I'd forgotten to pack some! It was lovely having a dishwasher too, although the view from the window made washing up much less of a chore! After seeing some cottages saying the first basket of logs were free, we couldn't believe how many logs were provided under the stairs! More than we could possibly get through, so that was really good. A welcome tray was waiting for us in the kitchen which had tea, coffee, sugar, juice, mini cheddars and really lovely biscuits with a note saying milk was in the fridge. We thought that was a lovely touch and not something you expect in self catering accommodation. There was also an extensive pack of tourist information leaflets which were good for having a look to see what else was nearby. The pack also included the booklets for the appliances which was very helpful when using a different cooker etc. Off road parking is available for 2 cars, just at the end of the terrace. We were a bit cold the first night as it took until the next evening to get to grips with the woodburner, having never used one before and we also noticed the thermostat was set quite low. After sorting both, we were cosy in the evenings for the rest of our stay. I did put something against the bottom of the front door though as we found a cold draught came in through there as a previous reviewer mentioned. The kitchen and the twin bedroom both felt a bit cold, although the duvets were nice and warm. All the rooms were a decent size. I was a bit concerned to find one bedroom up a couple of stairs from the landing to the left and the other up a couple of steps to the right in case our little boy misjudged it if he woke in the night as we still have a stair gate at home. But luckily, he was fine and got used to it straight away. I was relieved to have packed a night light for him though as it was very dark at night, something we're not used to living in a city! The bathroom has no bath, but does have a massive walk in shower and plenty of towels. It was really lovely having breakfast in the dining area, looking out over the garden watching all the birds and a squirrel each morning. The garden is really long and it was a real shame we never got to make the most of it being out until it was dark every evening. I can imagine some lovely evenings sat there in summer though as garden furniture was provided. The mobile signal was a bit hit and miss, though I got much better coverage on T-mobile than my husband did on 3, especially by the front of the house. We only used them to work out where we wanted to go for the day and find out opening times, so it wasn't much of a problem. There were quite a few dvds in the drawer under the tv which we made use of in the evenings and the cupboard had a range of games. Having a young family, we needed to be back at the cottage in the evening so it was nice these extra facilities were provided. After we left, the owners let us know that I'd left my coat and they very kindly sent it back to me, free of charge! We had a lovely time and wish we'd stayed for longer. We'd definitely go again.
“One of the best cottages we've stayed in”
Clean, well maintained, comfortable, well equipped, warm, spacious, good information, interesting (and relevant) pictures, uncluttered, great location, quiet, thoughtful extras, log burner and generous supply of logs, excellent shower. One of the best cottages we've stayed in. We're already thinking of returning.
“Great cottage, lovely location”
We travelled with another couple for a relaxing weekend away from work. The photos of this cottage really don't do it justice - it really is lovely and really well equipped. The garden is huge, perfect for a nice glass of wine early evening! The pub down the road is okay but there are better a short drive away. Lovely welcome from the lady next door and all in all, couldn't have been better. Loved it!
“Fantastic accomodation, enforced relaxation...Thank you”
Would love to visit again, stay far too short. Lots to see and do, but fantastic winter break. Adored the log burner and cosy feel to the cottage
Our cottage was comfortable and had all the necessities provided. Wood stove with supplied wood was a comfort during a spell of bad weather. Garden was perfect with a large lawn ideal for children without the risk of their causing damage to valued plants and thewild life attracted to the owners bird feeders was great. We were very well cared for by relatives of the owners. Abit off the beaten track. We regarded this as a plus point.
“Perfect stay in the Dales”
Cottage and owners were excellent. Absolutely no problems at all and we would highly reccomend this holiday let.
“Wonderful cosy cottage”
Beautiful cottage in quiet location. Very clean and well maintained. Ideal for family. Good location for trips to both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Useful to have a barbecue and garden facility. Would definitely book again.

About the location
MIDDLETON NEAR KIRKBY LONSDALE
Kirkby Lonsdale 6 miles.
Middleton is a small hamlet with a scattering of dwellings, farms and two local pubs, situated in the beautiful Lune Valley, an area of tranquillity, imposing fells and unspoilt walking country. Its nearby neighbour Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, mid way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th Century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th Century buildings which still stand. This part of the Lune valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin - his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil's Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks.
