    My granddaughter enjoyed the bath bombs in the bathroom.Plenty of room but still cosy, the aga was a new experience for us, loved it!Can't recommend this cottage enough.Plenty of parking and lots of great walks nearby.. Definitely hope to go back in the future.

The property

An idyllic, 14th century farmhouse resting within striking distance of the majestic Derwentwater lake and the pretty Borrowdale Valley.

This heart-warming retreat is perfect for a family or a group of friends looking to explore the surrounding countryside, with a magnitude of challenging hikes and gentle strolls on offer to suit a group of all ages and tastes.

Here, you will find three charming bedrooms to choose from, comprising of two double bedrooms and a twin bedroom, ensuring a flexible sleeping arrangements to suit your requirements.

Each bedroom enjoys a tranquil setting, complete with a refreshing colour palette, quaint linens and charming exposed beams, offering a welcoming base to return to each evening after a busy day exploring.

Look forward to spending your wind down time within the characterful sitting room, where the open-fire place gently fills the room with warmth during those chilly winter months whilst you tune into the TV or enjoy a games evening with your loved ones.

The charm continues into the kitchen, where the striking red AGA take centre stage before all of the other appliances the designated chef of the group will need to rustle up delicious evening meals that can be enjoyed at the formal dining area or outside on the quaint patio area, where views of the lake can be enjoyed whilst you tuck into your meal and plan the days ahead.

If you don’t feel like cooking, there is a delightful tearoom serving breakfast and lunch and a selection of homemade cakes on the doorstep open from Easter until November.

Perfect for refuelling after a day exploring the many fells within the valley.

Opposite here is the bus stop which is perfect for exploring further, taking you up the valley over the Honistor Pass to Buttermere or the other way into Keswick.

Spend an afternoon within the market town of Keswick, where you will find a selection of amenities and attractions including the Derwent Pencil Museum, Puzzling Place and the Castlerigg Stone Circle.

For those feeling active, choose to hike up one of the surrounding mountains, including Scafell, Skiddaw, Glaramara and the famous Great Gable.

Bassenthwaite 7 miles, Ullswater 16.6 miles; Cockermouth 13 miles.

The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater. With plenty of attractions for the kids, lovely parks and the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park this is a great Lakeland destination whatever the time of year.
