  • "The cottage is in a great location."

Had everything you need in the kitchen. Very comfortable. The village is peaceful and local pub fantastic. My only negatives would be could have done with a small towel for hair and a welcome pack. When you pay nearly £500 for a week in March I think this is a must. We are talking milk, teabags and coffee. We had travelled for a long time before arriving late and shop was shut. We recently stayed in Cornwall for less and they had a welcome show casing local products. The kitchen is really cold even with the storage heater on. We could not eat in there. Overall a lovely cottage.

  • "No welcome pack, we came prepared but someone travelling for hours who hadn’t brought essentials would be disappointed to find no tea bags coffee or milk and the village shop closed ."

No first aid kit. Raised patio was a trip hazard with uneven stones, needs attention. Cottage wasn’t the cleanest we’ve stayed in and on stripping the bed linen we found heavily stained pillows that were quite frankly disgusting and needed to be binned . The bed however was very comfortable and the cottage as a whole was ok.. one of the sofas was uncomfortable and the sitting room had a doggy smell .We wouldn’t stay here again and thought it was overpriced .

Only problem we had was getting the storage heaters to work as the temperature had dropped. Plenty of room in the cottage and Buckden is a great place to stay.

  • "A lovely cosy property, peaceful location, magnificent views and a good local pub and handy corner shop."

Everything you could need or want was there. Off road parking and a garden was a bonus. Lovely and clean and so quaint with a log burning stove. Would have given 4 smiles for comfort but the lounge suite was so uncomfortable - there is little back/lumbar support; as soon as you sit down your bum is swallowed into the back of all of the chairs so we really struggled with this and came home with backache. Solely for this reason I would hesitate to book this property again. Overall we had a great break.

We love this area of the Yorkshire Dales and the cottage has everything we could want. The cottage is well equipped, there are walks straight from the door, with a garden safe for our dog and it is only two minutes walk to the pub. We had two supermarket deliveries while we were there, so we didn't need to worry about shopping. We enjoyed another relaxing and peaceful holiday there.

It was clean and comfortable and ideally situated in the village. We never once used the car as there are so many different walks right from the doorstep. It’s within easy walking distance to both the pub and small shop. The garden was large and perfect for the dog to roam around. We took a small portable BBQ and cooked outside every night on our return from walking. A brilliant week and we’ll definitely return.

We booked the cottage for a weeks holiday with our dog for walking in the Dale's. The cottage was everything we hoped for. Clean, spacious, as described and we could not have wanted more. Our dog was safe in the garden. We had a space to park the car. The location is excellent. The kitchen had everything we needed. We bought food with us and there was fridge and feezer. The bed was lovely and big. The shower was clean and water was hot. There was a nice welcome pack with all the information we needed to use everything. We were so happy with our stay we have booked again for next year. We just cross our fingers that the prices dont increase to much as we hope to come back again and again.

The cottage is spacious and really comfortable. We self catered most of the week and the kitchen had everything we required. Great location for lots of wonderful walks and days out. The kids particular liked going down to the river which is literally 5 minutes walk away. Cottage was very clean and we felt due care had been taken in the current climate. We would definitely book the cotrage again.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Rowan Cottage."

the village is lovely, right in the heart of the Dales with many walks right on the doorstep. we popped into the local inn most nights and ate there a couple of times, the food is great and its dog friendly. the cottage itself is a nice size, and great to have a secure garden for the dog. the storage heaters are a bit old fashioned but we found them fine, in particular the log burner was amazing and really made it cosy. the bed was really comfy. the shower was ok. a reviewer mentioned you can be seen in the window but you just need to shut the blind and its fine. there is work going on at the cottage opposite which is noisy but they dont start work til nearly 9am so bit of a pain if you want a lie in but if you’re out all day its not a problem and i guess will get quite in next couple of weeks as the main building work is completed. none of the usual welcome packs that so many cottages do so dont forget to do a shop before you get there. there is a village shop but only opens short hours and does a few basics. overall a great holiday, in a beautiful part of the world.

  • "First the positives: Very comfortable (especially the king size bed) Very well placed in village Walks right from the door Negatives: Storage heaters are not great, they have put a plug in radiator in the lounge which we had on all the time, but didn't particularly feel cosy The bathroom is very basic, the shower seems to leak all over the floor, the window is not opaque and the blind was broken so the neighbours can see you having a shower The outside light barely lights up so when taking the dog out at night time it was very hard to see anything There was no welcome pack, now I know cottages don't have to provide one but these days most do, this cottage provided nothing not even tea bags The main complaint I have is there were builders opposite this cottage all week, on the first morning they had blocked our car in - so after that we parked further up the road."

They started every morning about 8.30am with their diggers and grinders shouting at each other and the radio blaring. This really tarnished our holiday as we chose Buckden for the peace and quiet.

There was enough fuel for the log burner for 2 nights but to be fair the cottage was toasty warm without lighting it. We enjoyed a host of fabulous walks from the front door so no need for the car but we also travelled to Grassington, always a joy and Pateley Bridge, fabulous pie shop/butchers and no trip to the dales would be complete without visiting Hawes and their Fish and Chip shop. All in all I would mark my holiday and stay 10 out of 10.
