  • "The fireplace chimney is not extracting efficiently and allowing smoke to escape into the room."

It would be a nice touch leaving guests with a starter pack matching qty of occupants. I arrived late, no shops open close by, nothing for breakfast the following day.

Thank you for your comments. The guests who followed you informed us of the issue of birds nesting in the chimney and a new cowl has now been fitted and the nest removed. The chimney sweep will be attending after the bank holiday. A welcome pack consisting of tea, coffee, milk, cheese and biscuits is always provided. Property Owner

  • "In all the 35+ years I’ve been holidaying in Wensleydale I’ve never stayed in Butersett, only ever driven through it."

We chose Primrose Cottage for its close proximity to Semer Water for kayaking and SUP and walking distance to Hawes. It was perfect for us, there wasn’t a thoroughfare past the front window. Parking was opposite the cottage on a grassy/partially muddy track which you had to leave enough room for tractor access, there were steps down but slippery when wet, not ideal for an elderly person but you could quite easily park further down the road. The cottage was a spacious 2 bed with a large living room and kitchen dinner, both had log burners. Both the main king size bedroom and 2 single beds in the back bedroom had loads of space to move around and get ready. There were two toilets to the property, one in the outhouse/washroom (great if the weather was bad and you were desperate) and other in the large family bathroom.. there was free WiFi and access to Netflix on the smart tvs. Fuel for the log burners was provided with an honesty box for consumption The only cons for us were the digital radiators which we couldn’t fathom for the duration of our stay. Likely WiFi controlled by the owners (seemed to work on the day we were leaving) could have contacted the owners but instead used one of the log burners on 2 evenings

Glad to hear you liked the cottage and location. Sorry you struggled operating the electric radiators. Instructions are provided, as we do not have the option to operate them remotely. Property Owner

  • "Our stay in Primrose Cottage was excellent."

Burtersett is a great centre for walking and the cottage had everything we could need. We just found it a bit chilly, though to be fair we didn't light the coal stoves. I'd definitely go there again.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and liked the cottage. Sorry you were a little chilly - the electric heaters are intended for background heating and the multi-fuel stoves are intended to provide the main source of heating. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was exactly as described in the information."

Burtersett is very quiet, the neighbours were friendly, access to the cottage was good and parking was easy. We didn't use the mixed-fuel fires (my husband has chest problems), and we didn't use the facilities in the outhouse - washing machine and toilet - which are accessed outside by walking across the yard; there is no tumble-drier. The kitchen is well-appointed, with everything we needed to cook full meals. The TV is smart, and we were able to use BBC i-Player, ITV Hub etc. We were warm and comfortable, and found the location good for exploring the immediate area. There are some lovely walks close-by, and we didn't do a lot of driving, which suited us. We would stay there again.

  • "Had a lovely ‘first holiday since lockdown’."

We didn’t use the car all week - you can easily walk into Hawes along buttercup filled meadows. It’s very very quiet so be prepared to relax and listen to the birds singing! We were lucky enough to be able to watch the swallows feeding their babies in a nest at the back window. We walked along the Roman Road into Bainbridge and had a lovely lunch at the cafe there- well worth the pull up the hill! We also had the most amazing chocolate cake at the Laburnum tea rooms in Hawes. Worth taking note of the description of the rear ‘garden’ as it is a shared area with next door who have access past the back door into a small lane. The neighbours are very friendly and we enjoyed their company ( especially the feline and canine members of the family!!) .

  • "The cottage was not only clean and well equipped, but everything was good quality."

The detailed instructions helped us find everything we needed and gave us confidence that we had left the cottage as we had found it. It very much felt like a home away from home. While there we had several issues with our cars, but there was enough to do within walking distance to keep us busy. But at those times that we were not busy, the cottage itself was quiet and pleasant, but with enough people around (including the lovely neighbours) that we did not feel isolated.

  • "The cottage is stylish, spacious and comfortable."

Beautiful location with numerous walks right on the doorstep. We had great weather and will definitely be back. It was worth knowing there was no tumble dryer because that meant we took extra clothes. The tv is not 'smart' so we were glad of the DVDs we took for cosy evenings with the log burner.

  • "We had a great week in Primrose Cottage."

Very comfortable house and we were impressed with the kitchen as it had everything we needed. Some cottages are a little short of the things you need to cook etc, but not here. Double bed in front bedroom extremely comfortable. Only slight grumble was that we had no instructions in what to recycle and where to place rubbish. I feel very uncomfortable putting glass, paper and food into a black bin as recycling is so endemic in our society. Please don't see this as a major gripe, but clear instructions will help. Overall, we loved the fact that we could walk directly from the cottage, enjoyed the wonderful views and loved the architecture of the hamlet.

  • "Lovely well equipped cottage in a beautiful peaceful location."

We saw red squirrel and barn owl from the front door! Cottage clean and more spacious then expected. Views and walks from the door were brilliant and loads to do in local area. Quiet spot but not far to amenities in Hawes. Cottage was chilly when we arrived but soon worked out the electric heaters. Only negative was we couldn’t get the lounge fire to stay light. I would recommend packing slippers as floors were cold.
