  • "We absolutely loved the cottage."

We took lots of bird food and soon had a large number and variety of birds visiting and it was lovely to sit watching them from the kitchen window. We also saw 3 otters swimming in the canal outside (but only on one occasion, even though we watched and hoped for them to return). Lots of rabbits. The garden was safe for our dogs to wander and the drive is nice and long with two gates, so you are quite a way from the road at the end which is fairly quiet. There is a builders’ yard opposite the cottage but we only saw someone there once and they weren’t noisy. The M6 is quite close but it wasn’t intrusive, even when we were wandering outside. There is a train track over the canal and you hear the trains but they are not intrusive and it is interesting to watch them. I hadn’t realised previously that Tesco use very long trains to move stock. There is a kennels up the road and we heard one or two dogs but again, nothing that bothered us. Once we had been there a day or two the cottage warmed up but I have to admit it felt cold at first and never got hot in the lounge. We had packed lots of jumpers though so wore those and it also made us realise we probably have too much heating on at home. Lovely walks locally and Leighton Moss RSPB site just along the road (top marks for their cafe). We are hoping to return to the cottage in the future as we really enjoyed our time there.

Thanks for your lovely feedback which expresses all the things I love about the cottage myself! If you were to come in the summer you'd notice that the lush growth in the trees and hedges enclose the space - you would barely notice the motorway, which in winter you can see, if you stand at the sink. From the front you get the canal and the view of the lake district. Taking extra jumpers to an old, stone-built cottage is always a good idea! The log fire tops up the heat in the older part of the cottage, and we have multi season quilts on the beds. Would love to welcome you again! Property Owner

  • "Master bedroom has no heating, was freezing, even the 2 quilts the owner put in the duvet cover didn't help, also no wardrobe, nowhere to hang clothing."

You only get notified of the work yard in the garden in your final email a week prior to travelling once you have paid up, we were lucky and only had one day of grinding/banging. Listing states DVD players (plural) there is one built in the small TV in the kitchen, fantastic if you enjoy sitting round the kitchen table on an evening to watch a movie, also the remote to this only controlled the volume, no rewind, play, fast forward etc.. The TV in the living room had about 6 watchable channels. Listing also states a washer dryer, there isn't, it's just a washer. Also a nice view of the M6 from the kitchen window whilst listening to the dogs in the kennels next door competing with the traffic noise. All in all a lovely cottage to look at but very misleading in some of the listings and certainly some things left out until a week prior to your stay, which in my case I would not have booked had I known... very dubious now to see only 5 reviews!!!!!!

Thank you for your feedback. It is a real shame that you did not contact the owner during your stay as you will see from the many glowing reviews, that the owner prides herself on giving every guest the best holiday experience. There is a free standing heater in the main bedroom and if had you had called the owner she would have been more than happy to assist you with the issues that you have since raised in your feedback. The proximity of the property to the M6 is clearly shown on the map below. Property Owner

The trains could be heard but it wasn't loud and didn't bother us. A real Christmas tree was supplied which made it all the better with it's wonderful smell, thanks for that. The local wildlife gave us some great displays every day especially the swans. It's in a great position to explore the Lake District and northern Lancashire. The King's Arms in the village is great with freshly made food and a good variety of real ales and gins. The locals were very friendly too, we even got asked back. The local shop seems to stock everything you'd need and is open late. Whether you sit in the kitchen or lounge the views were beautiful, I could have stayed in all day. Loved seeing the swans and ducks along with all the other birds too everyday. I loved the solitude but everything was so near that you had the best of both worlds. Visited Leighton Moss bird reserve and surrounding areas. Ate out in local pubs The Smithy being the most friendly and welcoming it is on the way to Holm about 10 minutes away. They really made a fuss of our 2 little dogs. I found the Kings Arms in the Village very unfriendly towards dogs and the staff quit miserable considering it was Christmas. ( This is my only complaint ) Visited Morecambe beach several times and enjoyed the walk along the promenade. The beach café at the end served delicious food and coffee and is very dog friendly. A lovely cottage would certainly visit again.
