  • "This is such a lovely, clean and comfortable cottage plus we had our current trainee guide dog with us - he loved it."

However, we found it totally let down by the state of the back patio area. You enter the property via this entrance and it was treacherous. I actually slipped during our stay. Fortunately no injury, but it needs maintaining. Did contact the owners, hope they sort it long term or they could have issues. We would definitely visit again and recommend to others (provided the yard is sorted)

  • "We had a few issues with mould in a cupboard, broken blinds and general cleaning."

The owners came out and dealt with the blinds and mould on pans and in cupboard. Took away uncleared baking trays. Outside is very damp and the path from the car to back if property is slippy with moss and algae. The back yard is wet and very dirty, in need of a jet wash. On getting home we unpacked and everything felt damp. There appears to be a damp problem developing in the property. I imagine this is a lovely property in the summer but at this time of year the whole valley is wet.

Thank you for your feedback We pride ourselves on providing all of our guests with a great stay. On occasion things can be missed and we are sorry a couple of areas were but as you know we were pleased to pop over to the property and resolve these for you. With the very wet weather outdoor areas have been difficult to maintain to usual standards. Sorry to hear that you feel when you got home that you felt everything was damp. We can confirm that there are no damp issues in the property. Property Owner

  • "Kitchen/lounge downstairs inadequately provided."

Cooking utensils and cups insufficiently available. Small table with only 2 chairs for eating any meals. Our plan was to cook a meal and invite 2 of our family who live in the village to dine with us on the evening we arrived. This was impossible due to the aforesaid deficiencies. It is no wonder that dishwasher, washing machine and cooker appear hardly ever to have been used. We would never book this again unless these complaints are rectified

Thank you for you feedback. The property sleeps 2 and as such is insured for 2 guests and is advertised for a maximum of 2 people. We provide everything to cater for 2, hence a dining table for 2 and 2 chairs. In terms of utensils there is a minimum of 4 of everything which means that whilst 1 set is being used the other previous utensils and crockery used can be washed using the dishwasher. Thank you for your feedback on the cleanliness of the dishwasher, washing machine and cooker. Property Owner

The bathroom was well sized with a good shower too. Only downside we come across was it was not as clean as we would have hoped for. There were some dog biscuits under the sofa, something our dog quickly managed to find, as well as a few spider webs around the place * near the tv and on the lights in the bathroom) There was also some hair and bits under the bed, something else the dog managed to find. This just took the shine off the stay a little bit but overall we were happy

Shopping and pubs are easily accessible in Garstang. (The pub within 2 miles is currently closed for refurbishment). The cottage itself is spacious and has an attractive interior design. Steps leading to the front door give open views from its elevated position. The inventory, although covering basic requirements, is fairly minimal making it difficult to use the dishwasher effectively.

  • "All in all we had a good stay."

However, the property whilst looking nice on the surface, was in need of some TLC. There was mould on the tiles in the shower and also mould on the walls round the rear door and in corner of bedroom. The cleaners wiped it off it off with a bleach based solvent which really wasn't enough. The stairs and banisters are very worn and need repainting. Whilst there I had to repair the toilet flush which was so loose it was disappearing into the cistern. I reported this as soon as we arrived but nothing was done about it in he two weeks I was there. Also it was impossible to set the timer on the heating thermostat and I had to switch the heating on manually every 3 hours (maximum time allowed) which was very inconvenient. It was snowing whilst we were there and very cold. This is not a place for anybody unsteady on their feet. The steps back and front are very steep and dangerous in the dark as there is no outside light. Bath looks great but it is extremely narrow even for my wife who is quite small! When you are in the lounge with the blinds open it can be a bit of a goldfish bowl as the footpath goes right past the window. In it's current state this cottage is not really suitable for a winter stay

Unfortunately they have not maintained the property as there are holes in the bathroom walls where items have been removed and we watched a blue tinged TV. Little things like making sure batteries are not dead in controls is also important. We appreciate that having a radiator leak can happen any time but it should not be expected that we hunt for keys so that this can be dealt with. Better maintenance and organization would make this a good property.

Excellent location, thoughtfully planned accommodation with some lovely design touches. We were very comfortable and managed some really interesting walks - no hesitation in recommending The Old Post Office to others. There were a few maintenance issues: some blown lightbulbs, the heated towel rail only heated up in a very small part and there was still rubbish in the pedal in when we arrived. We would have appreciated some easier to find instructions about bedding, rubbish etc. They are there but we had to search the drawers and a brief folder with everything together would really help. But these are minor issues and we had a great stay.

Bed comfortable, especially for my husband who is tall and suffers with back problems. Large rainwater shower very good. We are tea drinkers, so missed having a teapot! Although we liked the cottage, and would return, we felt as if the décor and some of the soft furnishings were looking tired and worn; the windows could also do with a good clean on the outside to remove the insect webs and cocoons! It took us a while to locate the instruction booklets for for the kitchen appliances - it would be helpful to put these in a readily available information folder perhaps. The area is excellent for walkers who want to avoid the busy hiking routes - the surrounding countryside is lovely; we enjoyed the bluebell woods, and saw lots of hares, lapwings and curlews. We were able to do several walks direct from the cottage including walking into Garstang and to Bleasdale. The views were good, although I would imagine they would be superb on a clear day, when you would be able to see the Lakeland fells across Morecambe bay

It’s in the village of Calder Vale near Garstang. The house is spacious, clean, modern but boasts lots of Post Office touches. The little garden is not grassed out the back but lovely to sit out in and admire next doors sheep. It’s enclosed if you have a dog. The house downstairs is open plan, and has everything you need. Upstairs is the bathroom with a large shower, the bed is huge and so comfortable, the bath in the bedroom was so relaxing. Just loved every thing about this house and it’s setting. You will not be disappointed if you have a holiday here. Lots of lovely walks in the village, which was full of beautiful pink blossom at this time of year. Garstang is a lovely town with lots of shops the best supermarket had to be Booths lots of different items we don’t find in the south. We did venture out and about and visited Windermere in the Lake District, Sizergh Castle National Trust in Kendal. Bowlam.

Really good ensuite shower room and a perfect freestanding bath in the bedroom. Excellent and imaginative lighting possibilities. No real exterior space with the property but a nice bench out front with views across the village to woodland and relaxing sound of the river. Enjoyed all the possible walks but being in a valley all involve steep inclines at some point if this is a problem for you. Note that there is no mobile phone signal (O2 and Vodaphone) in the house and only an occasional one outside. Also the internet access is very slow at around 1.5MBs. If you want somewhere really quiet, note that there is a busy working cotton mill in the village. A good base for exploring the Forest of Bowland and the Lancashire coast.
