  • "A great cottage in a quiet little village, perfect for if you want to relax."

The town, Cark has great links to neighbouring villages - such as Cartmel and are all a short drive away. The cottage was great! Very clean and comfortable, the log fire is a great touch. I would definitely stay again.

  • "Really enjoyable break here."

Ideal position, where we could sit out in the sun in the evening with a drink or two. Lovely walks just outside the door. A very gentle holiday with easy access to the South Lakes area.

  • "The cottage was a lovely place to stay."

It's well equipped, comfortable & we appreciated the central heating after getting cold & wet. Parking was easily available. One criticism are the arrival & departure times 5pm is late especially if you've had a long drive and 9am on departure day is too early. 4pm & 10am would be much fairer. I wouldn't book again without negotiating this. Other than this an enjoyable place to stay.

We were lucky with the weather a few days of sunshine. the cottage was cosy but was let down with cobwebs in a couple of the rooms. We would return to this cottage in the future

  • "Very disappointed on arrival, cleanliness was awful!"

! Rubbish bins outside overflowing! No instructions as to when the rubbish was to be put out for collection?? Sticky sweets left under the bed?? This is our 2nd bad experience with yourselves, sadly we will not use your company again!!

  • "Good location for exploring the lakes, cottage was OK and met our needs but could have been a little cleaner, also recycling containers had not been emptied, and the decking at the rear is next to the bins so not pleasant to sit out, but there is a table and chairs at the front near to the river."

The rear is open across the row of cottages, so be mindful if you take your dog. We also saw a rat run out from a neighbours shed which again was little concerning, but it is very rural.

Well impressed with the speed of response by the management company when I reported issues with electrical equipment. Not happy with 9 am departure time although I understand the reasoning, as this meant we had no time for breakfast other than a quick brew. I would have been even less happy has we been a family with a couple of children rather than a couple of pensioners.

  • "Comfortable Cartmel Cottage is in a beautiful position, being part of a well-kept pretty terrace beside a stream."

It is close to the village store and The Engine, which serves food.I had been concerned that holidaymakers might have been met with some hostility with regard to the spread of Covid 19, but the local people were very friendly. We travelled to Cark by train and were pleased to find Holker Hall, Cartmel Priory and the Lakeland Model Village at Flookborough were within walking distance for the reasonably fit. The railway provides good links with the towns and villages of the Cumbrian coast if you wish to explore further afield. This is a great setting for a quiet and peaceful holiday.

  • "Cottage quiet and peaceful in a lovely setting with friendly neighbours."

Everything that you could reasonably want. Felt very comfortable. I get COVID-19 situation but there was a very limited supply of toilet roll in and dishwasher tablets so we had to buy some. I don’t want to be picky but there was a lot of post, some of which seemed to be official, dating back to March. If the owner can’t get there, the facilities company should communicate with them. The bath panel came off during our stay and the facilities company sorted it the same day so well done.

It felt like a home from home and I wish we could have stayed a little longer, only bad thing I can say is that I couldn’t manage to get the fire lit but it was still lovely and warm. Would definitely recommend! Thankyou

  • "We arrived at this cottage on a cold November day but sadly the heating wasn’t already on and it took a long time to warm up, not the best welcome."

The overwhelming impression in the living area was how much the space was compromised by an oversized sofa and armchairs. The latter of which were not as shown in the promotional photos. The space was so small that I struggle to imagine how four people could move about in the room. Also there is a Smart TV which has clearly been an issue with previous guests, us included. It’s so annoying having to use apps and log into the various channels not all of which offer live TV. There was no washing machine in the property either although checking on the web page it doesn’t refer to there being one so I guess that was an oversight on my part and wasn’t really an issue to be fair. There was also an issue with lightbulbs, there were two boxes in a cupboard but they were not of the correct fitting so no idea why they were there in the first place? Overall we found our stay rather disappointing, with a little more imagination and a modest financial outlay Cartmel Cottage could be a very nice holiday cottage.

Lots of walks on the doorstep, a shop and bakery in the village and good nearby pubs. The cottage was small but well-equipped and cosy despite the sub-zero temperatures outside. There is no enclosed garden so could be difficult for some dog owners but we managed no problem. The owners and Sykes helped us with a last minute request and no bother. Would be happy to stay here again.

The owners were very accommodating and helpful when I rang. The cottage is in a great position for sightseeing there is also a small shop, bakers and two pubs that serve food all on the doorstep. We loved this cottage, parking was not a problem, unfortunately we had to return two days early because of the “beast from the east” however this will not put us off and we will be back.

Our only issue was that with the property being listed as pet friendly, it would have been useful to know that none of the outside space was enclosed. It’s clear that the cottage fronts on to the river and that pets should be supervised however the back patio is also open for your dog to roam in to next doors garden and also on to the road.
