    “Fantastic Property”

Booked for a family celebration then read the previous review couldn't believe it that's not what we wanted. However when we got there I was overwhelmed by the property. Yes when we got inside it wasn't roasting hot, but it is a big house and I understand about not having all the heating on in every room so wasn't disappointed., the kitchen was warm with the Aga having been put on for our arrival, open fire lit and central heating on we were soon happy. These owners have class the rooms are superb and well equipped, any art lover would love it here, great period furniture, and the housekeeping to a very high standard. We had no issues with wi-fi. The gardens are fantastic and would love to re-visit in summer, to see the lawns, beds and trees at there best. The location is superb with mini super market type shop a few yards away and The Pig & Whistle pub and Bistro about 100yds away with great food and beer. An easy 5 minute walk and you're in the centre of Cartmell with it's magnificent Priory, shops, Unsworths micro brewery (try the Cockler) shops, pubs and restaurants including two Michelin star ones (one with 1 star the other with 2) I tried to book for a special birthday in May but unfortunately it's the weekend of the first Cartmel Races of the year. We all definately want to return, hopefully longer than the 4 days we had. The one downside is we had to leave :-) As mine is the first one after the previous reviewer, I'd like to add none of our party have any connection with owners or anyone else associated with the letting. And if I won the lottery I would try and buy this as a home. Les Campbell p.s. there's the rest of the Lake District to enjoy from here too!

The property

Nestled in the heart of Cartmel, which is famed for being one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District, this beautiful, detached house overlooks glorious grounds and the priory, some 2 miles from Grange-over-Sands.

The White House is one of the oldest properties in the village, boasting many of its original features and elegant furnishings taking you back in time, including a beautiful stained glass window on the staircase.

It is well-suited to families and large groups looking to make the most of Cumbria's fabulous walking country and England's longest lake in Windermere.

Spend your down time in the spacious sitting room and take in your surroundings, you'll find lots of interesting objects catching your eye as you relax in front of the open fire on a cool winter's night.

The living room wraps around to the snug area, where you can choose to take yourself away from the group for a quiet read, and French windows open out onto the sunny patio.

Collect produce from the vegetable patch in the walled garden and cook up a storm for the whole family in the well-equipped kitchen, the AGA range cooker is available by prior arrangement with the owners.

There is a breakfast table in the kitchen for enjoying your first coffee of the day with a read of the newspaper, whilst the more formal dining room rests next door.

Find the snug/library room a handy addition for the kids to entertain themselves for a few hours, while you catch up with the adults and discuss plans for the day ahead.

Upstairs, you have four well-presented bedrooms, with the master bedroom offering a super king-size double, its own en-suite bathroom and beautiful views over the garden.

Outside, the well-maintained garden offers an extensive lawn for the children to run around with their four-legged friends, while you enjoy the delights of the fruit orchard or a game of croquet.

You can even indulge with a refreshing glass of wine on the patio followed by alfresco dining on a long summer's evening.

Visit one of the local pubs for a pint of real ale, explore the gift shops and don't forget to try a taste of the famous sticky toffee pudding at the Cartmel Village shop.

Find yourself enjoying the seaside resort of Grange-over-Sands and take advantage of all the fun-packed attractions close by, such as the Lakeland Motor Museum and Holker Hall and Gardens.

Further afield, you have the stunning lake at Windermere with boat cruises and plenty of amenities within the town itself, as well as plenty of walking and cycling opportunities.

This is a fantastic retreat to be enjoyed the year-round.
