"Loved this quirky cottage So handy for town centre and walks ."
Gets sun for most of day at the front so it was great for sitting out and watching the world go by !
Enjoyed good wholesome meals at Riverside Hotel which is so handy from property too
As we didn’t get to do all that we had planned we will be back in Kendal and would definitely choose to stay at No 10 again

"Filthy on arrival , areas not cleaned for weeks ,
Toilet seat loose and faeces around fittings , skirting boards thick of dust , AGA dirty , loose wires hanging from ceiling led lights , shower mat filthy , Parking was a lottery ,if you were lucky you could get near the cottage but most of the time had to drive around the one way system looking for a place ."
Town restrictions also apply so also had to get up early each day to move car before 8 am and incur a fine .
We left early as totally disappointed in what could have been a lovely stay..

"This charming little cottage was a lovely place to spend the week."
It was very clean, comfortable and spacious. The only difficulty I had was with using the AGA, which I could not get to work and found the directions a little unhelpful. However, there was an oven hob in the kitchen and a microwave so I could still cook perfectly well! The house is located in a wonderful spot with plenty of things to do in the local area and it's close to many of the lakes. Getting a parking spot was relatively easy and I had no problem finding the key. I would definitely recommend staying here.

"Was a beautiful cottage all amenities were there."
I took my kids with me, they were not familiar to a DVD player as everything is on Netflix now lol! But they enjoyed choosing from the collection of films!! Very lovely to come back to a warm house with the aga on after a full day out in the cold. Would recommend and would stay again. Communication was very prompt from the owners and made us aware where everything was prior to our stay!

"A beautiful, quirky cottage in a good location, the Aga was a delight!"
Close to the river and only a few minutes walk from the town centre, bus and rail stations, yet still very quiet and peaceful. An excellent base to explore the Lakes. The only downside is that finding a parking spot can be difficult, but the bus service is so good that we didn't have to use the car after arrival.
We will definitely be coming back to Castle Crescent.

"While the cottage was lovely and in a great location for both the town centre and the nearby lakes, there were no outdoor bins (they were also not in the nearby community centre either as stated) and no clear instructions for the aga, which would have helped given how warm it was in the summer."
The welcome instructions were behind a radiator and were only found when moving the sofa which wasn't ideal.
The house also needed a deep clean throughout, so much so that we chose not to cook in the house for any of the 4 nights we were staying.
Please note that the Aga instructions are in three places:-
first on the top left Aga door, secondly on page one of the Welcome pack and lastly in the
book to the left of the Aga titled "The Aga Cookery Book".
Agas are just like ovens that are always on. You don't need to adjust the heat, just put the food in either the roasting oven (around 180 ) or simmering oven (around 150). There are labels on the oven doors telling you which one is which. Regarding the bins, there is a lime green bin in the back yard for your rubbish. The cleaner will then dispose of it. Thank you. "This was a comfortable and well situated stay."
The house is well equipped and satisfied all our wishes as a family. There was only one difficulty in the Aga being on the whole time. This makes the house very hot and when the temperature was above 20 degrees outdoors this was uncomfortable.
We would recommend this as a great place to launch a family Lakelands visit. Thanks

"It really wasn't made clear that the Aga was the only option for cooking."
We have a 2 Yr old (which one of your booking agents was aware of) so this really wasn't suitable for our needs. It was impossible to prepare meals for our son (as well as for myself and my husband) with having no prior knowledge or experience using an Aga.
We also felt let down by the fact that when any shower water went outside of the tray it would leak through to the lounge! The water dripped over our belongings and was an inconvenience to tidy up. The shower needs to be fully enclosed if the floor tiles are not sealed.
We also had no hot water for the first 24hrs. We tried calling Sykes numerous times but kept being cut off. My husband emailed but know one came back to us. When we called again in the morning the matter could have been dealt with better. The plumber that came out to us was great and arrived quickly, but the issue could have been dealt with by myself had the maintenance team given me the correct advice. Having to put our son to bed with no way of washing him was not how we wanted to start our break.
The property really wasn't clean enough either, there were lots of cobwebs and dead flies, moths, wasps etc, we would have expected better.
I appreciate that there's nothing you can do about a heat wave, but the top bedroom was incredibly hot. If the velux doesn't open, a fan should be provided in the summer months.
Finally, the twin bedroom door would not stay closed, and due to the huge slant on the whole property, his door would swing open and bang through out the night, it woke us all up.
We were really disappointed, which isn't something I would say lightly, I have never given so such damming feedback. Considering the cost, our stay did not represent value for money.
Dear Mr Lever,
First of all let me say how sorry I was to receive your feedback and realise that the holiday didn't go well for you. Every year lots of people visit the cottage and enjoy its quirky character, superb views, convenient location. As a 200 year old Weaver's cottage it is a far cry from a modern square box! It has been lovingly renovated and restored to include many original features.
Firstly, it says in the description that there is an Aga and also lists all features at the property. It is very clear on the Sykes website. There was a microwave. If you struggled with the Aga, despite the instructions given and various booklets, you could have prepared food using the microwave and the selection of microwavable dishes.
I do apologise that there was no hot water the night you arrived. This is highly unusual and has not been an issue previously. I understand from the Plumber that you tweaked the boiler and tried to fix it yourself. Please don' do that for Health & Safety reasons (unless you are a qualified plumber! )The boiler is inspected annually and up to date with all its checks. I'm sorry you felt there was (no way of washing your two year old). A kettle is provided so you could have heated up some water to wash.
Regarding the heat in the top room, usually the 12 inch thick stone walls stop the house from getting too hot. I find opening the front and back sash windows allows for a lovely through draft. Keeping curtains closed in hot water helps keep the sun out and heat down. The Velux window is not allowed to be opened as guests have in the past left it open during the day and rain has come in whilst they were out for the day. It rains a lot in the Lakes!
The twin bedroom does have a latch on it and can be closed. Believe you me, my teenage daughter would have something to say if it couldn't be closed!
Sykes website have a "Child Friendly" icon of a Teddy bear that makes choosing a suitable property super simple. Our property doesn't have this icon for obvious reasons. May I humbly suggest you choose "Child Friendly" properties in the future to ensure the property meets your expectations & needs.
All the very best for the future.

"The cottage is warm, cosy and clean and it is in a good location for the town centre, local transport links, also the walk along the river is very nice and there is a canal path which is 5mins walk from the cottage."
On arrival it was better than photo's showed on the website, on the top floor the view was lovely across the river, will definately be back.
The only downside to this beatifull cottage is the black rubbish bin and recycle box was at the end of the lane back of the cottage, also the previous people that was staying at this cottage had left the yellow bin outside the back door full with rubbish.

"My partner and I booked this house for my birthday week and we were amazed when we stepped through the door."
We knew it would be beautiful from what we saw in the photographs but it absolutely exceeded expectations. The house had a cosy, warm feeling which was made perfect by the AGA. There were clear instructions and information about everything we needed to know which made things easier. We spend a very lovely week there (and became engaged there too!) and we can't wait to come back for our honeymoon!

"The cottage is lovely and in a very convenient location for walking into Kendal."
We were extremely comfortable during our week at Castle Crescent and would definitely like to return one day. It was a bit of a challenge cooking on an Aga but that's all part of the holiday experience and it certainly made a change for us. We wouldn't change anything about our stay. We trust the Sykes star rating system and they have never failed us yet.

How ever the living room was not very big and in it was a very big AGA which was very hot and heated the whole house in the summer we were sweating so much far to hot to have in the summer we couldn`t sleep. and we were told we couldn`t turn it of. So we wouldn`t recommend this cottage in the summer months
Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry that you struggled with the heat during your stay, had we of been aware at the time we would have been more than happy to attend the property to assist you. Property Owner

"I called on Saturday 2nd August and spoke to Sykes about the lack of cleanliness of the property when we arrived."
This was not clean at the best of times and during a global pandemic this was certainly not an acceptable level of cleanliness. I emailed over pictures within the hour and have heard nothing back from you which I am really disappointed about. Sykes was very helpful, polite and professional on the phone, she asked if I wanted a re-clean which I declined but I would have expected an update and some communication or apology from the owner seeing as I had to spend nearly an hour at the beginning of my holiday cleaning their home to a vaguely acceptable level.
Other than this the cottage was a great base for our holiday.
