  • "We enjoyed our stay and were generally well pleased with the facilities and the comfort provided."

A few suggestions to make the property even better: 1) no coffee pot! we had to go out and buy one. 2) there just 3 cups, plates, wine glasses etc. No breakages occurred but it would have been difficult to replace it/them if they had. 3) no soap holder in the shower (excellent shower, however). These are relatively minor details, but they are the kind of things that guests notice. Otherwise we had a very enjoyable week, we loved Sedbergh (a book town!) and the surrounding stunning countryside, we visited Barnard Castle and the glorious Bowes Museum, and also Hawes, the famed home of Wensleydale cheese. We hope to use Sykes Cottages again in the future.

Thank you for your comments and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay at our cottage in Sedbergh. We hope to see you again if you decide to revisit the area in the future. Property Owner

Plenty walks to do, right from the doorstep. Off road parking was great, and we were lucky enough to be able to sit in the garden and enjoy the sunshine

  • "Lovely cosy cottage."

This is our second stay and will be returning. We love Sedbergh and all the amazing Walks and interesting places to visit near by and in the surrounding Countryside. The property is very good value for money and well equipped with everything provided for a comfortable , homely stay. Only one suggestion...a blind or curtain would be an added bonus on the inside back door for privacy but not an issue that would put us off going again. Love it and will be back soon.

Your kind comments are very much appreciated. It is very good to hear that you really enjoyed your stay and that you have made a return visit. Thank you for such positive feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely four days stay at Winder fell view."

The property was very Comfortable, clean and equipped with everything we needed for a short break. We took our young Granddaughter with us and she loved the cottage and was able to go outside in the safe , enclosed garden. There is a small park in spitting distance to the cottage which again was safe and accessible. There is everything you need on the doorstep in the village of Sedbergh . We had a small issue with not being able to use the upstairs wc due to a leaking toilet but this did not impact too much on our stay and is being dealt with by the Owner who was contacted and came out straight away. We would certainly stay there again in this very friendly and accommodating property and Village. Many Thanks.

  • "I didn't actually stay there after all!"

I ended up staying at my mother's house, so was only there to check it out and leave the keys. I never stayed at all. But it looked lovely, very very clean, things all looked very new. I will definitely rebook down the road once I don't have my mother's house to stay in anymore. Would recommend to others!

  • "Felt the description could of been fairer."

States private garden but totally overlooked from the left by a block of low rise flats. Also no mention of being situated on a busy main road. The cottage itself was well equipped, appeared to be newly refurbished and was well placed for walking The Howgills. Unfortunately the tiny sofa was horrendous, you could only sit bolt upright as flat backed, too small for 2 adults even of average build, not great when you want to relax after a days walking. The sofa seriously needs changing. An L shaped sofa of normal size would work well under the window. No welcome pack, even milk would of been nice. We booked this as new to Sykes so no previous reviews to go by. We have mentioned the road as it was not an issue to us but could be to others, again with the overlooking issue from the flats. We have tried to give an informative review for others. The sofa is a must to sort and would be the only reason we would not stop here again.

Thank you for your feedback. Your views are important to us and help us to improve. We want our guests to be comfy during their stay and have now replaced the sofa which you felt so strongly about. The garden is private in that it is not shared with other properties and is fully enclosed. Unfortunately we cannot do anything about the location but other guests have not found the road to be an issue as the cottage is fully double glazed. In fact many guests have commented on its good location for walks and for its advantageous proximity to the town and its many amenities. We hope one day to welcome you back for another stay should you return to Sedbergh. Property Owner

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), set at the foot of the dramatic and wild Howgill Fells, is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale. Sedbergh is situated just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has an olde worlde atmosphere. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
