  • "A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting."

We had no WiFi signal at all so would have been nice to have more information and leaflets about the location and days out as we could not research and plan ahead. Cottage is spacious and well equipped. The hot tub was great but it is not the one in the photo which is a bit misleading.

  • "The Thack is a beautiful and comfortable property and ideal for larger family groups with so much space."

It's also in a perfect position from which to explore North Yorkshire and places like Skipton, Settle, Bolton Abbey, The Pennine Way and a host of other spots. The local gin distillery was great and we ate at Coniston Hall a couple of times. It is a walker's paradise. It has one downside and for many people this may not be an issue at all - wonky WiFi connectivity. If you want to ignore your devices and and don't need to work it's idyllic, however, if you have impatient teenagers who live on their phones or a pressing work commitment then it's probably not the place for you.

The reception staff were lovely and very helpful. Drank in the hotel bar, plenty to chose from with a lovely view. Did plenty of walking, sat outside alot with the weather being nice. Got no complaints. Definitely would stay again

  • "A three generation family celebration of two ‘big’ birthdays booked at the beginning of 2022, however one of our party needed wheelchair access following a recent accident but having contacted Sykes (who contacted the owner) a few weeks before our stay I had been reassured this wasn’t a problem."

Unfortunately every entrance to the house is via at least one step and the layout of the downstairs bedroom unsuitable for anyone needing any form of walking aid. Also the requested cot wasn’t evident either. Credit where credit is due, after contacting the Hotel a very pleasant & helpful maintenance man brought the cot and helped rearrange the downstairs bedroom. The Hotel staff were all extremely helpful. There were 8 of us (+ baby & dog) which seemed about right in terms of space and comfort, any more people would’ve been uncomfortable. The kitchen in particular is a lovely space and the hot tub a great hit with the younger party members. A beautiful area with walks from the house.

  • "There was slippers socks and tissues under beds No games at the property ( listed in description that there was) No dvds at the property (listed in description that there was) The bedroom above the kitchen was extremely hot and was not able to cool down even with fan."

This was probably caused by the hot water cylinder being next door and above the AGA which was on continuously, after a few days the guests had to sleep in the living room which was not great.

  • "The Thack provided as spacious property with large secure garden which was great for the kids and dog."

The hot tub was a good size and maintained each day. Nice touches where the bathrobes and toiletries along with a welcome pack. The alarm went off in the middle of the night and that took some time to sort out as no code. We suggested giving a code should it happen again which was acknowledged. The owners were very apologetic and gave us two bottles of Prosecco. We would definitely return. May be worth and information pack to help with equipment and when leaving the property.

  • "Beautiful cottage amazing setting very well stocked and had everything we could have needed."

Hot water is dangerously hot could do with someone to look at it not cold water available in the kitchen at all we had to use the utility tap for this. I’m guessing the hot water runs from the aga system so could maybe be adjusted? Also the doors are extremely light and noisy with the latches and a bit cheap. However this did no way affect our stay just an observation if feedback was required.

  • "We rented this for my mother as she has mobility problems."

The downstairs en-suite bedroom was tiny and the wetroom completely useless for a 90 year old. We also reported dampness in this room. The kitchen was illogical in its layout. We also thought that this was on the site of the hotel so we could use the spa. However several miles away. Disappointing

  • "The Thack was the perfect accommodation for our family group of mixed ages - the location is secluded & idyllic, the property is very comfortable, well maintained & equipped."

The outside areas are lovely, especially the hot tub & bbq of which we made full use. We will definitely be booking this property again.

  • "The facilities were of a high standard, with plenty of crockery, glasses, cutlery and pans."

The showers and baths and the supply of hot water, along with the heating and wood was excellent. There was no evidence of the manuals for items such as washing machine, microwave and oven. Contrary to your listing details, nobody was able to show us around which was a little disappointing. The weather caused a few problems with the cover on the hot tub, but resolved with assistance from the hotel. Two spa sessions were pre-booked, but both very badly organised with 'confirmed timings', staff at the hotel were sadly lacking.

  • "Beautiful cottage and location, well equipped with everything you may need."

Cottage was extremely clean and hot tub was checked twice each day by the hotel staff who were very friendly. Hot tub is not pictured on the website which instead shows a picture of the infinity pool at the hotel spa which is a little misleading but we soon got over it! The WiFi connection is very poor, understandably due to the remote location, so if people were planning to watch movies on an evening then I would recommend taking some DVDs or be faced with live TV! Overall, a fabulous time was had by all, I would certainly book again.

  • "Firstly, we had a lovely family gathering and the staff at the Conniston Hotel could not have been more helpful or courteous."

And we greatly enjoyed the use of the Spa and facilities. Generally the house itself is spacious, well furnished and comfortable. But, unfortunately, we found the ground floor bedroom and en-suite to be below our expectations on two accounts; Firstly, the shower in the bathroom [wet room] left the floor drenched after use and unable to be accessed for the rest of the day. Secondly, there was a very unpleasant smell in the bedroom, perhaps from drains or septic tank? The only other information that may be relevant is that there was no key for the Fire exit located in this same bedroom. All the other bedrooms were of a standard expected of accommodation with this star rating. The above comments reflect why I have only given you a low mark of 5 for recommendation as, presumably, you are aware of the issues with the ground floor en-suite? As I and my partner occupied this bedroom it did detract from our enjoyment of the holiday. Because of this I feel the accommodation is overpriced.

  • "This is an outstanding property in a stunning location."

It was perfect for our large group of mixed ages (6months through to 50+!). The teenagers loved the hot tub and the games room, adults enjoyed the hot tub and the lovely comfortable beds! The kitchen is very well furnished, lots of space for storage of food for a large group and a lovely large table for meals. This truly felt like the best bits of staying in a hotel (gorgeous soft towels and nice toiletries) combined with the freedom of having your own space. Some of us used the excellent spa facilities at the hotel too, and it was great to have a meal there one evening. I couldn't recommend this property more highly. I'll be booking it again for our next big family celebration, without a doubt!

Fantastic house in a beautiful setting. We are group of friends who have known each other since school (and now all nearly 40) and reunite once a year. We are now dotted all over the country and have over the last few years been trying to find the perfect place to have our annual reunion. We now feel we have found it. Loved the little touches of dressing gowns, bread, milk, butter, biscuits etc. Hot tub was lovely. Plenty of crockery and utensils. Beautiful rooms, all very comfortable. Thank you so much, we will definitely be booking for next year.

  • "The only slight disappointment was the change of key pick up time on day of arrival."

You advertised it as 3pm and it changed variably from 4.30 to 4pm. In dark evenings that made quite a difference as we arrived in the dark. It was hard to find our bearings around the outside of the house/garden/hot tub/parking area the first evening. This needs firming up with the hotel and you should make the late check in clear on you blurb. On a 3 night break it has a big impact on day 1. Also although the house is owned by the hotel with all the marvellous facilities whenever access was required to the Spa or bars or restaurants there was no free shuttle available so it meant someone had to drive (and therefore not drink) or the use of very expensive taxis from Skipton. We paid £14 each way for taxis to come all the way from Skipton to take us the 5 minute journey to have a celebratory dinner in the hotel.
