  • "The positives of this property are Great location Good WiFi connection Good size bedrooms Nice garden."

    The negatives that we found, were Kitchen Facilities poor, 50s kitchen? No storage in the kitchen, basically no where to put anything. It needs a complete refurbishment. Old food, condoments left in cupboard from other guests. Also in the kitchen was a toilet, which I guess used to be the old outside loo, no hand basin. This property does not have two bathrooms and was a nightmare for 6 people, two of which were elderly. The lounge was very cramped and was a struggle for 6 people as it had a big folding table in it. Downstairs smelt damp.There was no logs provided for the log burner. If your going to advertise a log burner you've got to provide logs, surely? During our stay the combi boiler started making a horrendous banging noise in the early hours. I'm pretty sure it would have blown up if it want for one of my family being a heating engineer, he turned it off immediately and sorted the problem out the next day. The whole place wasn't very clean and just felt unloved. Parking is not great at busy times.

    Plenty of space for all occupants. Only issue is lack of parking space. Otherwise very happy with the property.

  • "This is a nice cottage on the edge of Coniston village so pubs and shops are within easy walking distance as is Coniston Water as well as lots of longer hikes over the fells such as Coniston Old Man."

    The garden isn’t enclosed so you do need to be careful with dogs, but it is set well back from the road so is reasonably safe. The cottage is well appointed and the 1950’s-style fitted kitchen is a real feature. The addition of a dishwasher would be welcome. Only one bathroom (plus a downstairs loo) as opposed to the two bathrooms claimed in the description. Parking (one car only) is very tight and needs cooperation with the adjoining cottage. Although the cottage sleeps 6, with only one bathroom, small breakfast table and a fairly small lounge it wouldn’t really be suitable for 6 adults.

  • "Car scratched trying to get in the drive to the property not dog secure no access to garden safely only a wc not a bathroom as advertised single beds very uncomfortable lounge\dining room certainly too small for three couples to relax in!"

    Wc off kitchen very dangerous re: step should have a beware of step notice, parking within the area assigned to this property is horrendous shared area with cottage opposite definitely a no no! Overall a big disappointment especially for the amount paid!!! Definitely wouldn't recommend or return very disappointed!!

  • "Melbourne House is an attractive property with plenty of character."

    It is in a good position on the edge of the village with nice views. The village amenities, lake and mountains are within walking distance. The house was generally clean although there was some staining on the soft furnishings. The description of the cloakroom should be changed as there is no basin and no room to install one. The kitchen was well equipped but chipped and cracked crockery should be removed and the frying pans need replacing. The toaster doesn’t eject on one side and the cooker really needs replacing. Despite the few negative comments we had an enjoyable stay and would return to this property in the future.

  • "Had a lovely stay at Melbourne House as the weather was wonderful for the whole week However , the house is definitely not big enough downstairs for 6 guests - the kitchen table and dining table only really suit 4 people."

    The cleanliness of the property was okay , but we didn’t want to use the oven as it wasn’t very clean ; there was a kitchen cupboard full of previous guests half- used products ie rice/ pasta/ketchup which was disappointing; there was also a bathroom cupboard which we never used as that also contained half used products from previous guests. I would like to point out for future guests that the entrance to the cottage is very narrow ( not described in cottage details ) and was very tricky to navigate . Once accessed the parking is also extremely tight given that you share the drive with the cottage next door. The garden is not at all enclosed meaning dogs can easily access the neighbours garden unless on a lead the whole time outside .

  • "Great location and spacious."

    No 2nd bathroom, only a very old loo downstairs with no basin(despite particulars). Kitchen not very clean. All old appliances, need updating. Shower control lever missing plus shower tray kept filling with water. Some duvets and pillows need replacing Couldn’t enter property until nearly 5pm as cleaner still there. Parking very difficult in drive.

  • "All very good Position in Coniston is ideal for walking the old man and visiting pubs and restaurants nearby But we were very cold during our stay the living room was ok because of the log burner."

  • "The cottage was lovely and clean."

    . the only thing that lets it down is the gardens. It is a dog friendly cottage but there isn’t anywhere really secure to let your dogs run round. We had 3 and found this quite difficult especially with it being a shared garden and the neighbours having 2 dogs with them too. Also, their was only 4 chairs in the front garden and only 5 chairs around the dining table when the property sleeps 6/7 people?

Nestling at the head of Coniston Water, the pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park, making it a superb base for touring, with Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere just a short drive away. Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing are available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, and the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. For watersports enthusiasts, the quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, whilst the less active can enjoy a leisure cruise on the beautiful steam yacht 'Gondola’, or visit Brantwood, the former home of John Ruskin.
