  • "This is a wonderful cottage."

Has everything you need for your stay with great views of Coniston Water. 10 minutes walk into Coniston which is a lovely little village and has a Co-op and Spar. 30 minutes in car to Windermere. 5 minute walk through the field down to the lake. Had a really good time. Thanks.

  • "Very nice cottage, which proved an excellent base for our holiday with 2 children (5 and 18 months) and one dog."

On the whole, everything was as advertised, and the patio was a bit roomier and with far lovelier views than expected. There are a few minor niggles that affected our stay. We found the induction hob to be rather temperamental: only two of the four rings would work, and we had to turn it off at the wall a few times. We also had to purchase a tin opener, as the one provided no longer works properly (not a big deal, but quite frustrating when you have two hungry children). We also didn't realise that the in-built oven was a microwave until the final day: there is an old instruction manual in the drawer for a Panasonic microwave, which led us to assume it had broken and not yet been replaced. The cottage is very clean and tidy, as a whole, although there is some black mould in the smaller upstairs bedroom in the corners around the bed. Overall, a lovely cottage and we had a great week exploring the area. The short walk to Coniston and the lake-front was a particular perk!

  • "A wonderful relaxing week at 2 Lake View, the cottage was very comfortable and clean."

We really cannot find any fault. The kitchen had everything that we needed and more. Centrally located for Lake Coniston a easy walk into the village itself, also well located for Windermere, Grasmere, Derwent water and Ullswater. We even had good weather.

  • "Radiators need bleeding noisy throughout night and day."

Alarm clock not needed! Lack of mugs and cutlery in general for five people resulting in endless washing up. Cups and saucers would be good too. No mixing bowls for food prep etc. Difficult for self catering. No trays for carrying drinks around. Or coasters in lounge to protect tables. Inadequate size bin in kitchen no bins in bedrooms for rubbish or recycling. Dining chairs too low to table unless you are six foot six tall. Deep Cushions needed. Small bedroom wardrobe does not have hanging rail. No hair dryer at property. Main bathroom has only hand held spray not over bath shower as implied. List of useful contact numbers bin days doctors early closing days etc would be useful. Considering this property is for five people it is barely adequately stocked unless permanently eating out for all meals. Lovely property well presented but spoilt by all above

we take all feedback seriously and will look into the issues you raised. We send a an email to all guests prior to arrival, with our private mobile number. this is so that guests can have urgent issues fixed immediately such as noisy radiators. To be fair, you didnt contact us and we dont know unless we are told. On the day of your arrival, we placed another 6 mugs in the kitchen, making a total of 12, and there are 2 full sets of cutlery. There is a welcome folder with all the contact details you mention. we do not provide hair driers and guests can check the inventory with us prior to arrival Property Owner

Great location for walking and a short walk to the village. Generally well equipped would have liked a few more mugs apart from that small thing everything was excellent.

we are really pleased you enjoyed the cottage and have taken the comments on board and will add another set of mugs to the cottage asap Property Owner

  • "I would never use sykes again, as though this holiday was fantastic, I ve priced it up for same week next year, its gone up from £629 to £863 for the week, an increase of £234?"

??? Or in another way over a 37% increase...how can sykes justify this?? Do not blame the cottage owner as we met her personally she is as disgusted as me at the massive hike on price....

We are pleased you enjoyed another stay with us at No 2 Lake View. However, we are disappointed that you have chosen this forum to vent your anger at the Sykes brand. Our cottage review section is not the correct place. We discussed the price for next year and I went to great lengths to explain to you some of the reasons including the economic climate, effects of covid, electricity prices and so on. As property owners, we approve the pricing structure and most emphatically did not express any suggestions to you that we were disgusted. We are more than happy with our service from Sykes and Lakes Cottage Holidays Property Owner

  • "The cottage is well equipped clean and comfortable."

Everything works well. The cottage is great for a winter holiday and In November we particularly appreciated the large porch to accommodate wet muddy gear, the washing machine and dryer, the central heating hot water and wood burner. The only downside is the adjacent road which is busy at times although parking at the back of the cottage is safe and convenient The view to the Lake from the back of the cottage is lovely .

  • "The property is in an excellent location, just a short walk into Coniston and the view from the lounge is fantastic."

All the beds are extremely comfortable and is has the added bonus of having two bathrooms, although the shower room is small it is perfectly functional and like the main bathroom is beautifully tiled . The kitchen is lovely and has everything you could possibly need. An excellent stay was had by all and we would certainly rebook.

Handy for old torver railway line walk and coniston launch and shoreline Parking was not as we had feared a problem It does front the road so there is inevitably some road noise to the front bedrooms but for us the location and comfort and quality of the accommodation more than compensated .

Beds really comfortable, lovely interior, well equipped kitchen, big fridge, good shower, but some road traffic noise in one double and the single room. Would definitely recommend this cottage, fabulous place to unwind and enjoy quality family time in beautiful surroundings.

  • "The cottage was lovely, spacious, clean and bright also within walking distance of Coniston Village."

The main bedroom would be improved by the installation of a mirror above the chest of drawers where a hair dryer can be plugged in. It is difficult to blow dry hair etc without a mirror. The Lake District is a beautiful place to visit with such a variety of scenery.

The view from the patio and also the bedroom window of lake is breathtaking. The house is so comfortable and clean and has everything you need. A lovely walk down into the centre of coniston where there are lovely shops and pubs to enjoy a nice meal and drink . So dog friendly everywhere. We will definitely return to this cottage on our next visit to the Lake District

  • "This was a lovely cottage perfectly suited to our needs."

The position was good - about 15 mins walk to the lake and town. The furnishings and decor were high quality and comfortable. The bathrooms and kitchen were really nice. I was a bit disappointed with the courtyard garden which was a car parking space and not private and the proximity to a busy road

Thank you for writing a review and we are pleased that you particularly like the quality and comfort of the cottage. But we are somewhat perplexed at the comments about the courtyard garden. There is in fact parking for 2 cars on the 'chippings' area adjacent to a lovely raised terrace with wooden table and bench and ample seating kept in a storage box on the patio itself. There is a sun parasol in the porch to use with the table. The on-line picture of the cottage shows the raised patio and the Welcome Folder in the cottage describes these facilities. Property Owner

  • "We stayed in 2, Lake View over October Half-Term, 24th-31st October 2020."

The views from the front bedroom (King) are absolutely stunning - such a lovely sight to wake up to! Kitchen well-equipped and clean, plenty of space for our family of 4 to eat around the big dining table, or sit at the breakfast bar for a chat whilst one of us was cooking. The whole cottage was lovely and bright, clean, warm and homely. We unfortunately had lousy weather whilst we were staying in the Lake District (!) - driving rain and hail almost every day. It was great to come back to the cottage after a day's walking and warm up with a lovely bath or hot shower. We would highly recommend 2, Lake View and will hopefully return next year.

  • "We loved the property, the decor and presentation were perfect."

The view and outside space was a bonus. There were homely touches throughout. The only drawback was the noise of the traffic as it was on main road. The kitchen only had 1 frying pan and no large casserole. Although it wasn't on the details every house we have stayed in previously had a hairdryer, and I didn't take mine. We thought the extra early departure time of 9 a.m was too early to leave, as the normal leaving time is 10 a.m.

They have set things up really well to deal with Covid 19 - there is anti-bac gel just inside the entrance and hand wash provided. Coniston village and the lake are just a short walk away (a small part without footpath but we didn't find that a problem). The view from the patio table was absolutely gorgeous, it was lovely to sit there watching the sheep in the field and boats on the lake. The area is a beautiful as you would expect from the Lake District, plenty of places to discover and walks to do. Highly recommended.

The property

Once part of an old mill dating back to 1800, now converted into four cottages with spectacular lake views, you will find Two Lake View in Coniston, overlooking Coniston Water in the Lake District.

Perfect for a family holiday to the lakes, for some fresh air and walking, this property will be an ideal base for all of your adventures.

The entrance porch is where you'll be kicking off those muddy boots and hanging up the waterproofs after a great day out in the open, before heading into the kitchen/diner to flick the kettle on.

Get a round of brews going for everyone while you are warmed by the underfloor heating as well as the woodburning stove that sits in the beautiful feature stone fireplace.

You can gather in the sitting room, which boasts beautiful views towards Coniston Water, and decide on a program on the TV with Freeview, or perhaps choose a favourite film to play on the DVD player, for a relaxing afternoon.

When it's time to head to bed, move upstairs to discover the three lovely bedrooms, a master king-size with a superb lake view, a second king-size room and a single room, all finished beautifully in earthy neutral hues of grey, cream and green.

Serving the bedrooms is a family bathroom hosting a bath with hand-held shower, basin and WC, as well as a shower room with shower, basin and WC.

To the outside you can enjoy a summer evening on the patio using the outdoor furniture as you watch the last of the sun fall on the lake.

If you don't feel like cooking in the evening, you can wander over to the local pub nearby and enjoy some delicious classic dishes, or head into the centre of Coniston where you'll find a bistro restaurant and a fish and chip shop, for whichever mood you're in.

For a fun activity, hire a boat from Coniston Boating Centre, where you can choose from motor boats, canoes, kayaks or even paddleboards to see the beautiful surroundings from the water.

With lovely footpaths and cycle routes around Coniston Water, you are further spoilt for choice of things to do, not mentioning the abundance of activities available in the entire Lake District.

Two Lake View is a delightful property to spend your lakeside retreat at in this beautiful part of the world.
