  • "Very dog friendly so ideal with our dog with loads of paddocks for off lead and a secure private garden."

Cosy cottage with amenities and nice little touches from owner. Ideal for peace and quiet. Lovely walk into village for shop and pub. Minor point , shower head high , not adjustable so had to hand hold it so difficult washing hair. Other than that value for money and would certainly go back. Beautiful area and friendly locals.

  • "This cottage is a credit to the owner."

We've had a excellent week's stay. The place was warm, cozy and spotless. The facilities they have is 2nd to none. Even have a covered garage to park your car in. You have everything there for you , even tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival. The owner Nick is a real gentleman and always at hand to assist. If you've got dogs this is the place, secure garden and great secured paddocks to let your dog exercise. Only a mile into village as the pubs there is well good and has a well stocked shop as well. Definitely recommend.

Nick the owner is so helpful with any questions you have along with recommendations regarding the surrounding area. The cottage itself is spotless & well equipped with quality appliances & home comforts. To be honest I could have lived there, The enclosed garden is perfect for dogs & the agility field is amazing. My husband & I loved all the geese, peacocks, chickens, ducks & roosters that roamed around. The most perfect escape & will 100% be back.

Our first holiday without our beloved dog who would have loved the garden, but we were checked on daily by a resident peahen! Didn’t need an alarm clock as the resident peacocks were on hand to provide that service. May not be everybody’s cup of tea but we loved it. The cottage was just perfect and all the people we met on site were very friendly. Thank you very much to all involved.

In a beautiful and tranquil, rural location, it's close to amenities while still enabling the feeling of getting away from it all. We received a warm welcome, and felt every detail has been thoughtfully considered, from milk in the fridge to spare dog bowls and poop bags, dishwasher tablets to plenty of reading matter. The property was beautifully clean and we really appreciate use of the agility course too - our 12 year old dog needed to let off some steam in the cooler evenings! The poultry onsite definitely added an extra layer of personality to the stay and it's lovely to see them ambling around and occasionally coming to say hello. The locals are all friendly too, from the local shop to the pub, we felt very at home. Would definitely book again, we highly recommend!

The cottage was lovely and clean and the owner had catered for everything even dishwasher and washing machine tablets plus dog bowls incase we'd forgotten ours. We met the owner on arrival who told us about the heating etc, later in the week he offered us a recliner chair which as very thoughtful. The beds were very comfortable and the cotton sheets were amazing. The garden is completely secure which was amazing for our German shepherd puppy. We loved hearing and seeing the different birds especially the peahens who visited the garden. We would definitely recommend Mousehole Cottage especially if you have a dog.

  • "Mousehole cottage was just perfect for us and our 2 dogs."

It was very well equipped with everything you need. It was clean, beds were comfy, generous amount of towels and the garden is completely secure for the dogs, good fencing all the way around. An added bonus is a securely fenced paddock so you can let your dogs run- this is sheep country so the opportunities to let your dogs off when you are out for the day are limited, having the paddock was just brilliant. The location is great , very quiet but only a mile from the village with 2 pubs and a shop and easy access to A6 and M6 making it very central for exploring this area. Owner was very friendly and lives on site but left you to it. We would recommend this cottage and we would go back again.

About the location

ARMATHWAITE

Carlisle 10.2 miles; Penrith 11 miles; North Pennines AONB 11.3 miles.

The attractive, unspoilt rural village of Armathwaite is ideally placed for exploring the Lake District, Eden Valley and the lovely coastline of the Solway Firth. The village has two old pubs, both with popular restaurants serving excellent food, a village Post Office and a traditional village shop. The River Eden runs through the centre of the village, and the area is renowned for its excellent salmon fishing, plus walking, canoeing and climbing. Armathwaite Castle, by the river, is a four-storey Pele Tower, and the 15th Century Church has fine examples of stained glass windows. The Eden Gorge, between Lazonby and Armathwaite, is one of Cumbria's best-kept secrets, and is well worth exploring. The local railway station is a stop on the Settle-to-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and where today many old steam trains still wend their way through some of the finest countryside in Britain. The Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith is the "largest grass covered building in the country" or you might like to visit Dalemain Historic House, featured in a television production of Jane Eyre.
