Close by on the estuary peninsula are the pretty coastal villages of Arnside and Silverdale.
Both of these are designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and are prolific for wildlife, especially butterflies.
They have fabulous scenery and lakes and are part of the coastal cycle way.
Also close by is the elegant town of Grange-over-Sands where you can get a train to explore the local west coast.
Just a couple of miles inland from here is the gastro village of Cartmel, home to sticky toffee pudding.
This picturesque historic village also houses a racecourse, a beautiful old priory and lovely pubs and restaurants.
The old market and festival town of Kendal is only a 15 minute drive with its array of amenities, including shops, galleries, museums and strolling along the river Kent.
From here Windermere is also close by with all the Lakeland activities on offer.
