  • "Absolutley awful."

First of all we had to tackle the decking which was covered in rubbish and extremely slippy. Once inside we was greeted by a damp smell . There was no instructions on how to turn the heating on so we was left freezing until this was sorted. The bathroom window didn't shut at all leaving the bathroom absolutely freezing. The light in the bathroom which operated the extractor fan also would turn off so we had the noise of the fan all through the night. There was mold all over the internal doors and windows. Some of the blinds was missing from some of the windows and the ones that did have them on they was destroyed and wasn't fit for purpose. This lodge should not be rented out as it is and after paying over £600.00 for a 3 night stay I feel robbed and will be seeking compensation.

no information of how to use appliances ect. cold and damp on arrival, no heating or hot water for the first few hours. shower hot then cold. generally a bit scruffy int and ext (and musty smelling) needs a serious clean and upgrade . nice location is the only real plus. we won't be using you again which is a pity because we have done before on a couple of occasions and been happy but we couldn't take this chance again.especially as it wasn't cheap...)

  • "The pictures on the website does not realistic."

It's a very small place and old, not at all that new and fresh looking like on the pictures. I paid £535 for two nights, but on arrival there was no hand soap or hand sanitizer....after COVID that would be a basic requirement. I also took some pictures of the dirty blinders and on the front door the blinder looks like a mess all broken. There were also some spiderweb inside....I wonder how much this place gets cleaned. There were some decoration which was also broken. Also they are asking to take off the bed linen due to COVID...but no soap !!! I totally feel misinformed, and the place didn't look that nice like in the picture!!! Do not waste your money. For this money there are better options out there. I feel I got scammed.

  • "A great spot for a short break, not as large as I would hoped."

So a short stay is ideal. A lovely secluded spot, but you miss the sun shine, because of all the trees, the decking was clean though. Unlike other reviews say. It does need some general tidying of the property…the blinds are not great working order, some missing. The shower didn’t drain all that well, and looks like it could do with new silicon seal around the base. Overall not a bad place to stay, but would look for a larger lodge next time

  • "Just returned from a four day stay at the retreat."

.the White cross bay facilities are great..ideal location to travel to anywhere in the lakes..nice restaurant and food and outside seating area that's dog friendly..but..be prepared for a mystery tour upon arrival! Reception will draw you a map to locate your lodge..but the site is vast..very hilly with poor signage and lots of dead ends..once we found the retreat it was disappointing to find the decking knee deep in debris from the over hanging canopy of trees..and VERY slippy (beware)..the nature of where you are means you expect a little"nature"..but not from the last six months..the lodge was clean..the kitchen is functional and well equipped but the decor and furniture has seen better days..the pictures on the website are accurate..but we're obviously taken a while ago..you need to climb out of the worn sofi and chairs..the floor is tired and "spongy" some of the window blinds are damaged and missing and all the varanda and decking hasn't seen any stain or varnish in a long time..we would stay again..but choose a lodge that's more up to date..there are some lovely ones on site...if you can find them!

  • "Fabulous stay at this lovely cabin."

Not overlooked and secluded. Warm, comfortable, cosy and clean. Beds are extremely comfortable not like some of the sardine beds in other cabins. Great shower. Our only complaint would be about the decking, whilst it’s great feature of the cabin it was covered in moss which is extremely slippery (as I found out)! Thankfully no harm done but someone else could really hurt themselves. That said, this cabin and holiday park offer a great stay and we will definitely return. Thank you

  • "Just returned from a brilliant weekend, staying in The Retreat."

I’ve been to lodges before, but need to commend you on how well equipped this lodge is, we wanted for nothing. The wrap around enclosed decking was a godsend for our dog, we felt it was safe and secure to let him out. What a bonus. The lodge is in a great location and we didn’t feel enclosed or overlooked by other lodges beside us, as in some parks where they are close to each other. It was lovely and secluded. The site is in a great location with a gorgeous marina. The on site facilities are a great alternative. Will we be going back? Yes, be sure we will, we’ve been looking at available dates today. Loved it. If I could make a small suggestion for the future- it would be a real bonus to have some comfy seating on the decking, to enjoy the lovely weather. My only request, but it didn’t spoil our stay at all. We were lucky to have such good weather at this time of year.

  • "We were sold an overpriced run down lodge during half term."

Having not felt safe or clean for 3 days before anyone did anything I wont be rushing back. We have received a small partial refund which is a joke considering when we had to endure. We came home 2 days early in the end.

Thank you for your feedback. We fully accept and apologise that cleanliness on this occasion was not up to the normal high standards. Please be assured we have passed your comments on to those responsible for housekeeping along with our sincere disappointment as we strive to maintain high standards at all times. We did however consider the significant £500 refund, acceptable to yourselves at the time, fair and reasonable compensation. In response to your comments regarding the lodge being ‘run down’ please note the lodge was completely refurbished in 2019 and is in very good condition. In marketing the lodge we always include numerous photographs such that guests can make informed decisions regarding price. Property Owner

Really sorry to say but upon arrival t the site and asked for directions as where to find reluctantly they gave me a map to find the cabin, entering the cabin we found used towels on the floor of the second bedroom not a good start, then we came to our tea open the draws where bowls where kept to be met by disgusting bowl obviously not clean ( oh a joke of a tin opener ), then time for bed locking door, door lock parts where missing just about lockable almost impossible to open fortunately we got help for to fix it, we be back to the Lake District unfortunately not to this site

We’re sorry to have received the negative feedback as we strive to maintain high standards at all times. We have passed your comments regarding cleanliness on to those responsible for housekeeping and take feedback of this kind very seriously. In respect of the door lock, unfortunately damage does occur during periods of occupancy, however a replacement lock was ordered as soon as we became aware. We’re glad to note help was available. The use of the word ‘reluctantly’ would suggest the initial welcome from park staff was not the warmest. Whilst we can’t control the park staff we will certainly pass on your comments as again we take any issues, detrimental to your holiday, very seriously. Property Owner

  • "Lovely retreat as the name states."

It was relaxing to be private as the lodge is sited in a position where you are not overlooked at all. We loved the site and the walk to the waters edge. The site is well kept and the gardens, trees etc immaculate. The lodge had everything we needed and we were pleased with all the facilities. The heating was efficient as it only took minutes to warm the lodge through if it was cold in the evening. We found the beds comfortable and it was good to see that when we stripped the bedding off at the end of the holiday, the duvets and pillows were nice and clean. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly return. We also found the whole booking experience with Sykes Cottages was excellent too.

The only thing I didn’t like was the “back door” having no blind/cover over it, although there was nobody overlooking us it felt a little “open” as it was directly outside the bedroom/bathroom. Other than that I cannot fault The Retreat and would not hesitate to recommend to others or to rebook when I am next visiting the area. Great value for money too
