  • "The property was very well maintained and reflected in the write up on the website."

Overall there were some issues that on reflection did not make our stay as relaxing as we had hoped for. In the main this was due to the somewhat controlling nature of the owner who lives on site. His immediate welcome was not relaxed as his priority was to inform guests about the restrictions that he has put in place such as how to park ones car and not damage the driveway or other fabric of the surrounding area. Instructions abide throughout the property on what not to do such as the french doors are for ventilation only !! you are not permitted to walk through them meaning that the two ladies in our party who have mobility issues had to walk to the rear of the house down some difficult steps with no hand rail. There was no fire escape plan or instruction in place nor any fire extinguishers or fire blanket for the oven top. The restrictions for use of the oven that all cooked foods had to be covered to ensure that future guests had a clean oven was indeed very controlling after all it is a self catering property. This was further exacerbate when we used the outside BBQ as an alternative only to be told that they had forgotten to mention this facility was out of use owing to a missing heat shield that may damage some neighbouring plants.I could continue but I think you will get my drift. Nice property wonderful views but after all it is a holiday let and has to be used.

  • "Excellent property with fantastic views."

Pavillion was big bonus especially when weather was not too good . My 17 year old grandson would have been in there all day if we`d let him. Excellent hosts , very knowledgeable and very helpful.

  • "The most welcoming hosts/owners with a great knowledge of the cottage and the surrounding area."

The cottage was immaculate, very homely and comfortable and full of personal touches. We had a great time in the Lakes and that's even with bad weather (although expected due to it being December/January). We would highly recommend a stay at this cottage, thank you!

  • "We had a wonderful holiday at Hilltop."

The views are absolutely gorgeous, and the cottage itself was immaculate. The games room and beautiful garden terrace were perfect. Thank you so much Stephen and Janine, you were excellent hosts.

  • "The accommodation was absolutely superb ."

.. spotlessly clean and kitted with every appliance, cutlery, crockery items that you could wish for. Stephen and Janine had literally thought of everything. They had further enhanced our stay with a vast array of books, DVDs, art work, maps of local walks and so much more, which gave us a wealth of information about Hill Top itself and the surrounding area. Finding places to visit was therefore made so much easier. The Pavilion gamesroom was absolutely fantastic. Had everything for darts, pool, snooker table tennis and even an exercise bike ... can't remember the last time we watched so little TV in a week!! Finally, Stephen and Janine couldn't have been more accommodating ... offering background information and advice to any questions we had ... and even providing all that was required for a great BBQ (except the food of course!). They were absolutely delightful and nothing was too much trouble for them. We shall definitely return at sometime in the future.

About the location

HAVERTHWAITE

  • Newby Bridge 3 miles
  • Lakeside 4 miles
  • Grange-Over-Sands 7 miles

Haverthwaite is a small village and civil parish in the Furness region of Cumbria. It is within the Lake District National Park and is located six miles east of Ulverston, near the southern end of Windermere. The village gets part of its name from the Old Norse word thwaite which usually refers to a clearing or settlement in the forest. Close to the village is Newby Bridge which is at the southern tip of Lake Windermere which takes its name from the five arched stone bridge built in 1651 over the River Leven. The famous Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam railways, runs between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge. Visit the Lakeside Hotels and enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats, bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life.
