  • "What's not to love about Old Mill Cottage?"

Andrew and Donna have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. The beds are so comfy, and support your back, so no backache!! That is a huge plus for us! The kitchen is very well equipped and there is plenty of space to store provisions. Good sized freezer and fridge. The lounge is cosy with a log burner, which we didn't need to use, but there were logs and kindling if we needed to, and the large table in the dining room easily accommodates six people. The garden is beautiful with places to sit, and the field up the lane is great for people with dogs. The area is quiet too with a decent pub just round the corner. Parking is a tad tight if you have a big car but we got our Zafira on it well enough. Two big cars would struggle though. We loved staying here and didn't want to go home. I think we will be back though! Thank you Andrew and Donna for making us feel so welcome!

  • "We absolutely loved Old Mill Cottage and enjoyed our stay at the Lake District!"

The house was very spacious, had everything you need to feel like home away from home and the garden was nice to sit and watch the various birds. The kids amenities were a big plus and we loved all the little details and decorations that made us see and feel how much love was put into the cottage. We'll definitely recommend it and maybe come back one day!

  • "We have just come back from a lovely stay in Old Mill Cottage, it was absolutely perfect!"

The Cottage is exceptional, everything you could possibly want for a relaxing comfortable stay. The village of Crook is perfectly situated for visiting the Lakes, if you enjoy climbing Honister Slate Mines are worth a visit, there are also some nice walks straight from the cottage and the 50m field up the road is great for the dog to have a walk or chase a ball. The garden is lovely, a really nice place to sit and watch the abundance of bird life especially after a busy day and then back to the peace and quiet of Old Mill Cottage. I highly recommend Old Mill Cottage and would love to come back one day. Our dog enjoyed her stay too she loved exploring the garden and sitting on the bench at the top watching the world go by!

Equipped to a very high standard, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We were kept well informed and updated by the owner before and during our stay. The cottage is in a quiet location, easy to reach. In a good location for exploring the south part of the lake district. It is a gem. Advert does not do it justice. Extremely clean, well maintained, everything you need and more. The beds are extremely comfy and cottage is cosy. Weather was definitely on our side and even managed to sit in the sun on several occasions and enjoyed watching the birds feeding in the garden. The flowers and little extras were a pleasant surprise on arrival. I would recommend staying here and am looking to come back again (soon). Thank you Andrew and Donna for sharing your cottage

The cottage was easy to find, just off the main road down a quiet country lane. The cottage is beautiful! A lovely garden, with Spring flowers just showing through. Accommodation was spacious, clean, cosy and comfortable. Large kitchen, with welcome pack, including tea, coffee, milk, biscuits. Lovely lounge with fire, although the cottage was warm enough, so we didn't use it. Bedrooms beautifully appointed, and again comfortable. Both bathrooms clean, and nice bath and showers. Lovely area to be based in with easy access to Kendal and all that the southern Lakes has to offer. Thank you Andrew and Donna.

  • "Just back from a superb weeks stay in this delightful cottage."

Tucked away in a quiet location yet just 5 miles from Bowness On Windermere, the cottage has everything you require for a relaxing, perfect time away, even down to providing towels & dog leads just in case you've forgotten your 4 legged friends. The Sun Inn is a 5 minute walk with excellent home cooked food, would recommend the Beef Ale Suet pudding as my fiance said it was excellent. Sleeping was not an issue, extremely quiet, with the double bed next to the ensuite bathroom one of the comfiest we've had the pleasure of sleeping in. Large kitchen area, dining room with table that seats 6 with ease and a lovely sitting room looking out onto the garden area where woodpecker's were spotted on the feeders. Walk up the lane a few hundred yards and you might be lucky enough to catch sight of the deer as we did. Would we recommend this cottage, if you want peace and quiet but close enough to the tourist areas of Windermere, Bowness, along with Kendal and Keswick, definitely, we'll be back next year......

  • "The picture of this cottage looks as if the driveway is really large."

This is not the case. The parking is on a small patch of tarmac and to park 2 cars on there is really tight and can only be done at certain angles. It's actually nail biting as you don't want to scratch your car or our sisters car. There was a Tesco delivery later in the afternoon which did block to road and cars were honking loudly in frustration. My husband and brother in law worked as hard as they could to unload the Tesco delivery quickly, however the held up cars were quite abusive. The neighbour directly opposite had a cone on his drive so it made it harder to navigate the cars. Personally I think that the picture of the drive should be removed as it's actually misleading. There is a problem with access. All my comments are directed to parking as everything else was fabulous.

  • "Just back from two fabulous weeks at Old Mill Cottage (4th to 18th Sept 2021)."

We found the cottage very clean and well equipped with everything you need for a holiday. The quality of the furnishings and equipment is very high and you instantly get the impression that the landlords are very caring and really want you to enjoy your holiday. We had a courtesy call from the landlords just to check everything was ok (which it was) which was appreciated. The little village of Crook is very quiet and peaceful and the beautiful garden is the perfect place to sit and unwind whilst watching the abundant bird life. The Sun Inn is five minutes walk and serves great food and beer with a very welcoming landlady and staff. The Cottage is well placed for the South Eastern and Central fells albeit a little drive away and easy access to Kendal and Windemere. We've stayed in many holiday cottages and this one is right up there with the best which is a credit to the landlords so many thanks to them and thanks for the welcome pack and doggie treats.. Also thanks to Sykes for making our stay so pleasurable. If plans permit we are hoping to re-book this cottage for next year and we have no hesitation in recommending Old Mill Cottage to anyone looking to stay in this area of the Lakes. Thank you Merv, Denise and Bodie, Bournemouth.

We couldn't have wished for better facilities or comfort. Half way between Kendal and Windermere it was ideally placed for us, a quick 6 mile run in either direction. The Sun Inn round the corner made really delicious meals. The village of Staveley 2 picturesque miles away came in handy for forgotten logs, wine, and paracetamol .... not necessarily in that order, and the field at the back of the house was an early morning treat for the dogs if a bit on the boggy side due to all the rain, perhaps you could organise some sunshine next time for us? The soggy weather was an excuse for a roaring fire on an evening, and sometimes in an afternoon too.. We wanted for nothing and we wish you many more years of doing business with Sykes as we would like very much to come again. A heartfelt thank you from Sue Daphne Gill and Bev.
