! This was our second visit and we cannot fault anything, The cottage is spacious and in a quiet idyllic part of lakes but near enough to Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Kendal etc to make the whole experience enjoyable. Lovely walks from the doorstep or a very short drive away. The cottage has all of the amenities that one could want, it really is 'home away from home'. I received a friendly message and email from the owners Andrew and Donna prior to our visit..asking us to get in touch if there was anything we needed. Everything about the cottage was of a good standard and kitchen was well equipped, and most importantly the beds were very comfortable. The owners had left a selection of books, games, videos and information folders along side welcome packs for both us and the dogs. We were very fortunate with having lovely weather throughout our stay and enjoyed visiting the many attractions in the area, which we recorded in the visitors book in the cottage. I have stayed at several homes throughout the UK and can rate this cottage as one of the best within the price range it sits and happily recommend it as a base if you wish to visit the Lake District. Andrew and Donna have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. The beds are so comfy, and support your back, so no backache!! That is a huge plus for us! The kitchen is very well equipped and there is plenty of space to store provisions. Good sized freezer and fridge. The lounge is cosy with a log burner, which we didn't need to use, but there were logs and kindling if we needed to, and the large table in the dining room easily accommodates six people. The garden is beautiful with places to sit, and the field up the lane is great for people with dogs. The area is quiet too with a decent pub just round the corner. Parking is a tad tight if you have a big car but we got our Zafira on it well enough. Two big cars would struggle though. We loved staying here and didn't want to go home. I think we will be back though! Thank you Andrew and Donna for making us feel so welcome!

Tucked away in a quiet location yet just 5 miles from Bowness On Windermere, the cottage has everything you require for a relaxing, perfect time away, even down to providing towels & dog leads just in case you've forgotten your 4 legged friends. The Sun Inn is a 5 minute walk with excellent home cooked food, would recommend the Beef Ale Suet pudding as my fiance said it was excellent. Sleeping was not an issue, extremely quiet, with the double bed next to the ensuite bathroom one of the comfiest we've had the pleasure of sleeping in. Large kitchen area, dining room with table that seats 6 with ease and a lovely sitting room looking out onto the garden area where woodpecker's were spotted on the feeders. Walk up the lane a few hundred yards and you might be lucky enough to catch sight of the deer as we did. Would we recommend this cottage, if you want peace and quiet but close enough to the tourist areas of Windermere, Bowness, along with Kendal and Keswick, definitely, we'll be back next year......

  • "The picture of this cottage looks as if the driveway is really large."

This is not the case. The parking is on a small patch of tarmac and to park 2 cars on there is really tight and can only be done at certain angles. It's actually nail biting as you don't want to scratch your car or our sisters car. There was a Tesco delivery later in the afternoon which did block to road and cars were honking loudly in frustration. My husband and brother in law worked as hard as they could to unload the Tesco delivery quickly, however the held up cars were quite abusive. The neighbour directly opposite had a cone on his drive so it made it harder to navigate the cars. Personally I think that the picture of the drive should be removed as it's actually misleading. There is a problem with access. All my comments are directed to parking as everything else was fabulous.

We found the cottage very clean and well equipped with everything you need for a holiday. The quality of the furnishings and equipment is very high and you instantly get the impression that the landlords are very caring and really want you to enjoy your holiday. We had a courtesy call from the landlords just to check everything was ok (which it was) which was appreciated. The little village of Crook is very quiet and peaceful and the beautiful garden is the perfect place to sit and unwind whilst watching the abundant bird life. The Sun Inn is five minutes walk and serves great food and beer with a very welcoming landlady and staff. The Cottage is well placed for the South Eastern and Central fells albeit a little drive away and easy access to Kendal and Windemere. We've stayed in many holiday cottages and this one is right up there with the best which is a credit to the landlords so many thanks to them and thanks for the welcome pack and doggie treats.. Also thanks to Sykes for making our stay so pleasurable. If plans permit we are hoping to re-book this cottage for next year and we have no hesitation in recommending Old Mill Cottage to anyone looking to stay in this area of the Lakes. The Sun Inn round the corner made really delicious meals. The property

This beautiful Lake District cottage is a converted former mill, set in a peaceful hamlet location.

Its all-white exterior and sash windows create an idyllic country house scene, engulfed by craggy green fields and narrow, windy lanes, just 6 miles from Kendal.

This cottage is perfect for families, friends and couples looking for a base to explore a different region of Cumbria.

The interior boasts a traditional feel, brought together with stylish fixtures and thoughtful details peppering the rooms.

Four bedrooms rest on the first floor, well-presented in soothing colours, offering a restful night's sleep.

Refresh under a revitalising shower in the en-suite double before getting ready for the days adventures.

Perhaps when you return after a long country walk, you may want to sink into the bathtub and luxuriate in a hot soak to soothe your aching muscles.

The kitchen occupies modern fittings, yet retains some of its original features.

An ornamental fireplace takes centre stage, complemented by a lovely farmhouse theme.

The sitting room offers an elevated position on a raised platform.

Here, you can gather around the woodburner on a cosy autumn night and relax into the plush sofa.

Outside enjoys a glorious garden, with a plethora of wildlife flourishing among pretty flowers and shrubbery, to be enjoyed the year-round.
