  • "We loved our stay at Crooklands."

The apartment had everything we needed and the log burner made it feel very cosy. All kitchen accessories were available to us and wood for the log burner too. We enjoyed walks in the local area, Kendal and Windermere. The pub next door was lovely too. The site manager was very helpful and friendly too. We needed to stay an extra night as our car broke and the site manager couldn’t be more helpful. Managed to get it fixed in the garage next door. Would love to come back again as we loved our stay and loved the cosy apartment. Thank you

  • "Had a wonderful week at Crooklands."

Despite it being December and weather cold and wet the apartment was warm and cosy. Equipped with everything we needed and comfortable. Nice warm welcome from Jill on arrival. Great location for Lakes, Dales, Morecambe Bay. Would have no hesitation returning here.

  • "The bar was set very high by comments left by earlier guests."

Our stay was very good but not outstanding. We enjoyed the location, which is very convenient for access to the motorway and South Lakes towns and attractions. The apartment is comfortable and has pretty much everything needed. We stayed for just three nights so our appreciation may have grown if we had been there longer. Would we stay again? Yes, I think so.

  • "A return visit to this apartment ."

..such a great location for accessing lakes, dales, Howgills and also Silverdale and Arnside. This is a clean, well equipped and spacious apartment. I have seen other comments which mention the shower ... the water pressure is fab no issues. I am average height and have no issues with the shower, hubby is 6ft 2"'s manageable for a week, hopefully this helps to clarify situation. There is also a perfectly good bath! Canal walks from the house are great and good pub with food less than 5 min walk.Warm welcome on arrival. Will definitely be back to explore more as this is a great, well priced base.

  • "The setting of this property is quite mundane, there are no views to speak of."

The property was clean but there are a number of things that could be improved. There was one thin duvet provided and the first night there was uncomfortably cold. No instructions were provided on how to work the timer on the boiler (an obscure make, no information on the internet). The bath/shower would only be adequate for a child, so that if you are tall, you will struggle. The TV far too small for the living room, you had to squint to read the channel information. Log burners are not receiving a good press, health wise, so this was not used, even though it would have warmed up the living room. This top floor property is quiet and well located for Kendal, although beware of the one way system!). It is also next door to the Crooklands Hotel, which may be an advantage, if you do not wish to cook using the perfectly adequate facilities in the property. As stated, entrance to the property is via an external (covered) staircase, which is not for the faint hearted. I would not return due to the heating situation (it should not be necessary to telephone for help, this is a basic facility) and the lack of views.

  • "This was a really great stay."

The properly had more facilities than I had expected, like a dishwasher! It felt like home and it was a perfect place to come to after going for walks. The only negative thing I can say is that when we got there the bed was not made and seemed like sheets etc had not been changed.... we managed to sort it out. Other than that all was great.

  • "This apartment was very comfortable and well equiped, the bed was also great."

The location was brillant, so many places you can go from here. The only downside was the shower is very low so just as well its over a bath. So maybe they could put in a longer bath as there is space. Loved the furniture ideas and helps the enviroment. Overall very good so would return but maybe some of the other apartments next time.

  • "A lovely apartment, warm and comfortable in a lovely setting."

The only thing letting it down is the shower which is virtually impossible to use especially due to the combi boiler which sends boiling water one minute and cold the next.

  • "Very central to many locations."

Very comfortable , quite a spacious apartment , everything and more for a vacation. Quiet area, with designated parking place.. Need to be aware it’s on the top floor of a three story building, stairway on the side of building but undercover. Lots of history of the building as it was a bobbin mill, pictures and information in the apartment. Now has three apartments finished to a high standard. Would certainly stay again.

  • "The location of Crooklands was perfect for us."

A quick trip up the M6 to get to the northern side and the southern lakes were not far away. As others have said the bed is very comfy! The layout of the accommodation is great and it had everything needed to be able to self cater. There is a very good size fridge/freezer which was nice to have too. The food at the hotel literally 2 minutes walk away was good too. Would definitely recommend this accommodation and would happily return again (tomorrow if I could!!)

However it was Thursday evening before these appeared!!! So disappointing, as the weather was amazing and perfect for sitting out. So we were unable to sit out at the apartment for the whole of our holiday. We felt very let down by Sykes.

Crooklands Apartments

These three apartments that have been beautifully refurbished from an 18th century, semi-detached water mill, in the hamlet of Crooklands in the South Lakes, 6 miles from Kendal and 5.5 miles from Kirkby Lonsdale. These spacious apartments have been created within the mill building which is next to a river and each occupies an entire floor with its own private entrance. Furnished in a contemporary fashion, each apartment has open plan living with well-equipped kitchen, dining and sitting areas and all have a woodburning stove which is perfect on chilly evenings to enjoy and relax. Two bathrooms have baths which are ideal for a soak after a day’s exertion while the ground floor apartment has a wet room. The contemporary dining areas all have quality, individual styled dining table and chairs and the tasteful, comfortable soft furnishings are also all slightly different in each sitting area, still keeping the quality modern feel. All apartments share the lawned garden and there are two patio areas with seating, one of which is directly by the river where the mill wheel was once housed. In addition to the garden area the ground floor apartment also has a generous private patio, perfect for enjoying an alfresco meal. Next door is a pub/restaurant and the village shop is only one mile away. These apartments are close to the attractive town of Kendal, often referred to as the gateway to the lakes. There is much to see and do here from Kendal Castle and the Abbot Hall Gallery to visiting the array of shops and eateries with festivals throughout the year. Kirkby Lonsdale is a small but pretty bustling market town with the infamous Devil’s Bridge and beautiful river walk with Ruskin’s steps and vista by the ancient church which will reward you at the end of the walk by the town. There are also the local historic houses of Levens Hall with world class gardens and topiary and Sizergh Castle; both have eateries with mouth-watering fare to tempt you. This area is a walkers’ delight and is also extremely popular for cyclists. The coastal villages of Arnside and Silverdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, are both worthy of a visit. These quality stylish apartments are perfectly positioned to easily explore the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, coast and estuary and are ideal for family and friends.
