  • "I can’t recommend this property highly enough."

It ticked all our boxes . The village location was perfect and within easy reach of beautiful countryside . Nathan and Fil were nearby to answer any questions or sort problems if they arose . The house itself was beautifully and sensitively decorated . All appliances were the of the highest quality. We were sorry to leave after two enjoyable weeks .

The property

Settled in the small village of Fence, Lancashire, is this semi-detached, family-friendly house, The Old Post Office.

Set above the former village post office, now an ironing shop run by the holiday home owner, this lovely abode is a great base for a family of four or couples, with the Forest of Bowland AONB and the Yorkshire Dales nearby, and off-road parking, contemporary amenities, and an enclosed, private garden.

Climb the stone steps, kick off your boots in the hallway, and make yourself at home in the living/dining room.

A sociable space for dining and relaxing by the warmth of the electric fire, you'll find a dining table for four, two plush armchairs, and a wall-mounted TV.

The well-equipped, contemporary kitchen is just next door with everything you need for a self-catering stay, including an electric oven and grill, gas hob, washer/dryer and dishwasher.

After dinner, head upstairs to find the beautifully furnished sitting room with a cushioned sofa, two Chesterfield armchairs, and a TV for entertainment, plus a second electric fire.

However, if the weather's warm, the enclosed rear garden is a peaceful space to spend summer days, whether that's a picnic on the lawn, dining al fresco, or reading a good book on the rattan furniture.

The first floor also hosts two homely bedrooms with ample storage space, a king-size with views over the village and distant hills, and a zip/link twin which can be a super-king-size to suit all guests.

You'll also find a pristine bathroom finished to a high standard with a bath and walk-in shower, so you can freshen up after the day's adventures.

Fence is a tranquil base for your family-friendly holiday where you can enjoy cask ales, open fires, and Michelin-star comfort food at White Swan at Fence, dine outside in The Sparrowhawk's garden, and, if you prefer home cooking, stock up at the village store.

There's plenty to do nearby including Gawthorpe Hall, an impressive Elizabethan house with links to the Brontë sisters, Pendle Heritage Centre to discover local history, and scenic walks up Pendle Hill with the Pendle Sculpture Trail sure to please the whole family.

The town of Nelson offers a golf course, Pendle Wavelengths with a child-friendly pool, and HAPPA at Shores Hey Farm with an excellent cafe and plenty of activities.

You'll also find the unique art installation of the Singing Ringing Tree on the outskirts of Burnley, whilst the larger town of Blackburn hosts Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery, Blackburn Cathedral, and a variety of nearby attractions including Mrs Dowsons Farm Park and tours of the fascinating Hoghton Tower.

If you're looking for the great outdoors, bring your bikes and walking boots for a day out in the Forest of Bowland AONB, or perhaps you'd prefer the spectacular waterfalls, caves, and breath-taking walks in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Gather your loved ones for a family-friendly holiday in Lancashire at The Old Post Office.
