“The Old Institute has SO MUCH character.”

As soon as we walked through the door we loved it. Spotless with everything we could possibly need on the doorstep. Parking wasn't a problem and the lovely people at the post office were so helpful. Ended up with takeaway on the Saturday night and the food from both restaurants were amazing! Would definitely stay again and recommend! Thank you.

The property

Nestled in the centre of the attractive market town of Milnthorpe, on the outskirts of the River Bela is this superbly presented duplex apartment, The Old Institute.

This character apartment is an ideal getaway for two couples or a family eager to escape normality and explore the breathtaking Lake District National Park.

As you enter, on your left lies the first of the bedrooms, presented in a black and white décor with high ceilings and a metal bed frame, showcasing the owner’s attention to detail.

Move upstairs to find the galley kitchen, presented with all you could need for a short stay, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, so you are able to prepare home-cooked meals when you’re not dining out.

Carry your conversations in the beautiful sitting room, boasting gorgeous ornate ceilings and roof cornices, along with a plush sofa and Smart TV so you can ease into the evening.

A pretty mezzanine bedroom rests above, finished in a similar tasteful fashion, while there is also a gleaming shower to serve the bedrooms.

The local town holds plenty of history awaiting to be discovered, once an important medieval market town, you can still discover evidence of its thriving past within its narrow lanes and historic buildings, housing a good selection of shops and eateries to while away the hours.

Meander along the scenic River Bela to wake yourself in the morning, leading to a couple of medieval landmarks and attractions such as National Trust owned Sizergh Castle and the Grade I listed country house of Dallam Tower.

Those nature lovers will enjoy a day out at Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, or venture over to Whitbarrow Nature Reserve and RSPB Leighton Moss, providing further scenic beauty.

Not forgetting, the magnificent Lake District National Park is on your doorstep; explore the gracious waters of Lake Windermere on board one of the iconic Steamers, discover literary treasures at the World of Beatrix Potter and Hill Top House, or delight in classic lake attractions such as the Great Lakes Aquarium and Grizedale Forest.

Alternatively, take a scenic drive over to Kendal and enjoy the Quaker Tapestry Museum, Kendal Castle, Abbot Hall and Kendal Museum, all offering an afternoon's entertainment.

However you choose to spend your precious time, return each evening to the comfort of The Old Institute.

About the location

MILNTHORPE

Arnside 3 miles; Silverdale 6 miles; Kendal 7 miles.

Milnthorpe, once an important medieval market town, is located in the South Lakes between Kendal and Carnforth, just a few miles from the seaside village of Arnside. Reminders of the town's history can still be found today amongst the narrow lanes and historic buildings, which speak of a time when a coach and four was more common than a four-wheel drive. Set in lovely rolling countryside, the area has much to offer, with the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis offering a tropical hall and butterfly house. Dallam Tower and Levens Hall (historic and beautiful stately homes with their deer parks, topiary and ornamental gardens) provide a great day out for visitors. Leighton Hall, Sizergh Castle, the Great Lakes Aquarium, Windermere and Grizedale Forest are also all within easy reach and well worth a visit. From stunning limestone pavements and wonderful woodland walks to beaches and scenic coastal paths, there really is something for everyone.
