  • "Fabulous weekend the photos don’t do the house justice lots of lovely seating areas indoors and outdoors."

Lots of rooms great games area. We were incredibly lucky with the weather but all fires had logs ready to lite. Lots of pans dishes and glasses. Huge table for everyone we were 15 but easily seats 18 and other tables for breakfast and lunch if your not all sat together. We were met by the owner who was lovely and made us feel very welcome. Would throughly recommend for a family break.

  • "We were met by a very friendly owner who gave us a tour of the house."

It’s a huge house with lots of bedrooms and communal rooms. We all felt that the place is a looking a bit tired and could do with redecoration/ refurbishment although it was extremely clean and comfortable. There were a number of minor faults that could be easily remedied and we left a list for the owner e.g. curtains falling off, a screeching extractor fan, lights that didn’t work, a tear in the pool table felt. The other inconvenience was the kitchen as the only sink was in a separate room to the cooking area, probably because the place used to be a hotel. There were plenty of plates, cups, glasses etc but it would really benefit from some additions - some more sharp knives, a bread knife, a second kettle and some mugs. These are all minor faults that could be easily fixed and there were plenty of good things - the huge square table to eat at, the bar, drinks cooler cabinet, real fire with logs supplied and we had a brilliant weekend.

Thank you for your feedback. At Valley View house we endeavour to make the guests stay a memorable one and want guests to visit time and time again. We maintain the house and furnishings throughout the year. We have very high quality curtains in our bedrooms and due to the system we had in place these were being dragged off the runners rather than using the closing systems by some guests. This has now been addressed and the curtain systems have been removed. The pool table was damaged by a guest and it has been hard due to the lock downs and restrictions for this to be repaired. However, this has now been replaced. Light bulbs are checked to the best of our ability each change over but in some cases guests have taken light bulbs out of lights for why we don't know. Finally the fan has also been replaced. Thank you again for your comments Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely house with so much social space."

The property itself is nice but the rooms really do needs some TLC. We had problems with the shower in room 5, no plug in the bath in room 3, the extractor fan in room 4 was so loud. Updating the rooms would make this property perfect. The rest of the house is beautiful and so much space.

  • "This is a retired hotel, with a huge downstairs area which leaves you with a choice of where to sit and eat."

Immaculately clean with impressive conservatory and outside eating areas and well maintained. A great choice for a large party wanting to visit the Lake District.

  • "This Holiday home is absolutely fantastic, so spacious, the pool table was a Godsend, pool matches every night."

The beds were very comfortable. My only tip to owners would be (if you like home cooking like me) I had to buy a whisk to make sauces, we had no bread knife to cut fresh bread and rolls, also medium size plates would have been great for toddlers as 12 inch plates were far to big, only other option were saucers. I like to bake when Im away May be a mixing bowl, and a muffin tin, for Yorkshire puddings for roast dinner. Would definitely bring my own next time if not as house is second to none, thank you Pauline and Vicky x

  • "What an amazing place!"

! Had the best weekend staying at valley view house for my birthday. The house is breathtaking, better than I ever expected. None of us wanted to leave. They have thought of everything to accommodate everyone. The place is spotless and so clean, the beds are so comfortable and rooms very spacious. The owner I spoke to a couple of times is absolutely lovely and so helpful. There are pubs just down the road in a little village with shops etc. It could not be anymore perfect. Thanks again, I’m already planning my next trip back!

About the location

DALTON-IN-FURNESS

Ulverston 5 miles.

The ancient town of Dalton-in-Furness lies in a narrow valley on that part of the Furness Peninsula which extends deep into Morecambe Bay. Once the leading town of Furness, Dalton has a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. The architecture of the town includes some interesting buildings in and around the market place, as well as an elegant Victorian drinking fountain, the market cross and slabs of stone used for fish drying in the 19th century. The 14th century pele tower, known as Dalton Castle, was originally a place of refuge for the monks of nearby Furness Abbey, an impressive sandstone ruin nestling in a peaceful wooded valley. Within easy reach of the town are the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, the world's only Laurel and Hardy museum at Ulverston and the Haventhwaite Steam Railway which runs to Lakeside, where you can board a steam train for Bowness or Ambleside. Just north of Dalton-in-Furness is the stunning Duddon Estuary and Duddon Valley, with Cartmel, Holker Hall and Grizedale Forest within easy reach. Situated on the edge of the Lake District National Park, and surrounded by mountains and beaches, this area is ideal for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers.
