A delightful, stone-built converted hay barn, one of four holiday cottages located at Scalebeck, in lovely rolling countryside, just a mile from the rural village of Great Asby and five miles from Appleby-in-Westmorland.

With unusual upside down accommodation, this Appleby cottage offers a perfect retreat for a couple looking to explore this beautiful area.

Decorated and furnished to a good standard, this Appleby cottage offers a spacious first floor living area with a beautiful high beamed ceiling, a well-equipped kitchen, dining area and sitting area.

On the ground floor is a lovely bedroom with a super king-size bed and an adjoining bathroom.

The five acres of grounds are a real delight, watching the wildlife, reading a book, and listening to the bubbling beck that runs past.

Red squirrels visit every day, as do woodpeckers and pheasants, and a plethora of garden birds.

The occasional deer, rabbits, and birds of prey, including a barn owl, can all be seen throughout the grounds.

Stroll into Great Asby along the country lanes, explore the conservation area and village snapshot of life in 1911, then stop for lunch at The Three Greyhounds, before walking home and maybe catching a glimpse of the red squirrels and deer along the way!

All guests are free to use the games room with table tennis and pool table, and shared picnic tables in the garden.

The nearby attractions of the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway line, the Eden Valley and the famous Three Peaks are within easy reach, making this Appleby cottage a delightful romantic retreat, ideal for exploring all the beauty of the surrounding National Parks.

The historic town of Appleby, set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley, is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-to-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. Visit Appleby in June and experience the atmosphere of the three hundred-year old Horse Fair.
