The beds and linen were some of the best we have experienced and we were really impressed! The kitchen was well enough equipped for us, plenty of crockery and glassware to meet our needs and enough pans and dishes to cook easily. The fridge was a little small given the distance from a large supermarket, but was fine for the four of us. We can recommend sausages from Rothbury if you visit Cragside, absolutely amazing! The location was just what we wanted, seclusion, perfect dark skies and picturesque. We were able to walk from the front door and the cows and sheep were lovely to watch from the kitchen window! Simon was warm and friendly without being intrusive in the slightest. We were left a welcome pack and that was really generous. Overall a delightful and friendly host! The location for us was perfect, we toured all of Northumberland and popped into Scotland :) We saw the Milky Way and then warmed ourselves by the log burner, absolutely perfect! We are hoping to book to come back next summer, the area and the cottage has really stolen our hearts!

The Bower Cottages

Located in Kielder Water & Forest Park, known for its distinctive scenery, The Bower Cottages are right on the doorstep of fantastic walking, biking trails, water sports, horse riding and other adventure activities. The Northumberland International Dark Sky Park is definitely worth a visit where you can experience the best star-gazing in the country and even spot the Andromeda Galaxy – a vast island of stars very similar to our own Milky Way. There is also an abundance of wildlife for you to observe and explorers can expect to encounter roe deer, otters, red squirrels, seven species of bat and a variety of birds, including ospreys. Set in a stunning, remote area these two stone-built barn conversions are the perfect holiday base for a family or group of friends looking to explore in a peaceful environment. In a secluded location, Bellingham is the closest town, offering plenty of history within the architecture, as well as an array of shops, pubs, cafes and a golf course. Being on the doorstep of the Northumberland National Park you are well placed to explore the beautiful countryside. Further afield the popular tourist attractions of the Northumberland coast, Lindisfarne and Hadrian’s wall are all accessible and make for a great day out.
