The property

Just moments away from the market town of Penrith on a private 4-acres, is this impressive, detached home, Willow Mill.

Adorned throughout with lavish furnishings, bespoke blinds and solid oak flooring, this charming cottage is a fantastic setting for a family adventure to Cumbria.

On one side, the home has retained Victorian features and on the other is a barn-conversion, which opens up to one property; admire the warmth of the underfloor heating beneath your feet in the morning as you explore your holiday home.

Park up in an off-road parking space before making your way inside to the sitting room, where you can unwind on a chesterfield sofa with a large TV with Sky for a family favourite.

To keep the adults entertained there is a stylish bar area, hosting a pool table, darts, as well as a gaming arcade for a trip back in time with Pacman Space Invaders and Donkey Kong!

The young ones can escape the adults to the playroom, where they can have their own flat screen TV with Sky and choose between a great selection of DVDs.

When stomachs start to rumble, rustle up heart-warming meals in the rustic kitchen, with an oil AGA cooker and electric cooker to assist you or why not make a steaming bowl of soup courtesy of the soup maker?

Tuck into a feast at the grand dining table or why not head outside onto the patio, with fantastic seating and a barbecue for alternative dining arrangements?

As day turns to night, take your pick between five elegant bedrooms, with a twin bedroom on the ground-floor with access to a wet room, whilst a further four bedrooms can be found on the first floor.

There is a king-size with stunning black furnishings and serving an en-suite shower room, another king-size bedroom with a TV and a delightful double and flowery twin bedroom, all with splendid views out on to the grounds.

Before climbing into bed, enjoy a soothing soak in the claw foot bath, where French doors overlook the River Eamont or take a hot shower to freshen up after a day of exploring.

Awaken with a steaming cup of coffee, courtesy of the coffee maker, in the huge conservatory or unwind on the front patio overlooking paddocks and wild rabbits; bird watchers will be thrilled with the abundance of woodpeckers and oystercatchers!

Why not enjoy a peaceful fishing spot on the river and afterwards play a game of football on the lawned area whilst the little ones build sandcastles in the sandpit?

Take a short stroll along the river to reach the local pub, where a beer garden entices you to have a gin in the sun and the kids can make use of the children’s play area; the food is also outstanding so be sure to fill your boots here!

Opposite, you will find a Thai restaurant for those of you who enjoy oriental cuisine but if that’s not to your taste, venture into the bustling town of Penrith for a great selection of eateries to treat your loved ones.

Within easy reach is the quaint village of Pooley Bridge, which is peppered with teashops and Greystone houses and overlooks a scenic lake.

For a stunning backdrop of mountains and the second largest lake in the Lake District, venture to Ullswater, where you can unwind on a lake cruise or enjoy a picturesque picnic; Ullswater is also close to cascading waterfalls for excellent photo opportunities.

For a special setting, whisk away to Willow Mill.

About the location

Keswick 17 miles; Carlisle 20 miles.

The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic city streets. Within easy reach of the town is Rheged – an innovative visitor centre with shops, restaurants, exhibitions and a giant cinema screen showing educational and informative films. Brougham Castle (The Windsor of the North), Long Meg and her daughters (the 3rd largest stone circle in England) and the historic city of Carlisle are all a short drive away, as is the stunning scenery of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
