  • "Really lovely cottage."

Alun was an attentive host. Great location. Thank you again!

  • "Great cottage well maintained, warm and comfortable."

May be a big pan would be good to allow you to make a one pot meal.

Thanks for the positive review, David. Great to know that you were warm and comfy and enjoyed your stay. Your suggestion is appreciated and noted. We will add such a pan. Cheers, Alun and Oksana Property Owner

  • "We stayed here for a (miraculously rain free) week in mid-October."

The cottage is extremely comfortable and well furnished - excellent wifi and plenty of smart TV options (essential for my teenage daughter). Beds upstairs very comfortable and an extremely powerful shower. Great location with both a coffee shop and excellent pub within 2 minutes walk. Short drives to Ambleside, Grasmere and Little Langdale with many further eating out options. Huge variety of walks and amazing views in the valley. Didn't meet Alun, the owner, face to face, but we corresponded by text and he was very helpful 0 being able to check in a couple of hours early was hugely appreciated. Only point for improvement - a few cooking accessories such as foil and clingfilm would be good: we had to buy our own and left these behind when we departed; it seems a bit wasteful if every visitor does the same thing.

Thanks very much for the lovely, positive review, Christian. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your holiday. Great that you enjoyed to new smart TV we installed and were comfortable and happy in the cottage, throughout your stay. Thanks for your comment on what we can do to improve the cottage. We always value suggestions based on our guests' experience. Cheers, Alun and Oksana. Property Owner

This was why I chose this over others , such a bonus. Great walking from here, enjoyed the Langdale valley and over into Grasmere. Able to get the bus back from Ambleside after a long day out Really comfy beds and plenty of hot water. Hosts quick to respond to our questions re how to use an induction hob

Thanks for taking the time to post this lovely review, Linda. We are happy to help encourage EV usage in the Lake District by providing a charger. Fab to know you appreciate it. Great to know that you enjoyed your stay, Jo. I always hope that guests have an enjoyable and care-free stay, but in the event that our assistance is requested, we live only ten minutes away, so I try to be prompt and responsive. So, it is good to hear that you appreciated our care, and we'd love to welcome you back sometime. Thanks again, Alun Property Owner

  • "It was great that there was an ev point, unfortunately due to the tight parking and allocation of our spot we were unable to connect our car."

Perhaps allocating the spot nearest the point would mean people could make use of it. The cottage and location were lovely and Alun was very helpful.

Hi Karen. I am glad that you thought that the cottage and location were lovely. We endeavour to make guests' stays amazing, so I am glad that you enjoyed your time in the cottage. Sorry to hear that you had a problem reaching the charger with your cable. If you had made me aware that you couldn't reach the charger, during your stay, then of course, I could have helped. We have an extra long cable for guests use, if necessary. I am easily contactable by text or email, and am only ten minutes from the property in the event that anyone has any issues. I hope that you stay again sometime, and we can easily get you powered up! Thanks, Alun Property Owner

  • "Overall a positive experience."

One downside being we felt obliged to agree to the gas check during our stay, which, being second property owners ourselves, we felt could have been arranged outside of guest time, perhaps on changeover day? Although many elements of the cottage are top notch, certain things, like the provision of only 1 loo roll for a week long booking felt ‘tight’ for example. We would have welcomed a wider range of kitchen essentials that allow for more home cooking and it didn’t impact us so much as we had taken preprepared meals. We felt it is a perfect size space for two and with four people staying it would be too small. We appreciated the large fridge freezer and the cottage being lovely and warm throughout.

Dear Andre. I was happy to receive your text message during your stay, telling me that you thought the cottage was lovely. I would have welcomed you telling me, at the time, about the minor concerns that you now write about. I could have quickly and easily solved them; barring the requirement of a gas safety check, which, as per the contract you agreed to, you were required to allow access for. This is something that is time limited and legally required of us. It is also for your own safety. Organising such checks on a Saturday (changeover day) is nigh on impossible. I went to great lengths to organise the safety check at a time convenient to you (eg. when you were out) and it finally happened on the morning of your last day. As a thanks, I bought a bottle of wine for you, which you don’t mention now, but appreciated at the time! The lack of spare toilet rolls is not standard and was a one-off mistake by the cleaners. If you had mentioned it on any of the multiple times that we spoke, I would have easily and quickly rectified it. There is nothing “tight" about the way that we manage the property and are constantly investing in maintenance and new facilities for guests comfort and enjoyment. We're glad that you were warm and cosy and enjoyed the kitchen facilities. We are always keen to improve guest experiences, so again, had you told us which additional items you'd have liked, we would have happily accommodated you... We regularly have very happy groups of four, three and two guests. I’m glad that you had an overall positive experience and hope you will visit us again sometime! Cheers, Alun Property Owner

  • "The owner of barefoot cottage was amazing very helpful , certainly went over and above to help."

So a huge thank you to them for all the help and support. The cottage is lovely. All the positive feed back is for the owner and his cottage. Lake Lovers however I will never use again. The service they provided was non existent, I feel are they are now only interested in taking the customer’s money. I have felt they have steadily declined over the last few years, but this was another level. I would suggest anyone booking in the lakes use a company like heart of the lakes or Wheelwrights or go via cottage owners. Lake lovers have obviously gotten so big now they have no care or due diligence for the tenants.

Dear Marie. Thanks for your positive feedback about my customer care. You had the misfortune to be staying during Storm Arwen and I counted myself grateful to have had such understanding guests during what was a challenging time with long power outages. I provided you with a portable generator and was really happy that you stayed in the cottage despite the atrocious weather, riding out the storm and making the most of your time in the Lake District. We hope you'll visit us again, in better weather conditions! All the best. Cheers, Alun Property Owner

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our week in the Lake District, and Townfoot Cottage just completed the perfect holiday."

The location is not difficult to get to and parking is easy with an allocated space just outside the front door. It’s cosy, comfortable and is equipped with everything you need. The cottage was very clean and the owners had provided some helpful information on how everything works, which was great. There are even board games and DVDs for a chilled night in which we thoroughly enjoyed using! The beds and pillows were so comfortable. We loved being in such a rural location, and the cottage is a very short walk to the local pub the Britannia (great pub food)! There are also lots of lovely walks you can do close by including one from opposite the pub which takes you past the beautiful Elterwater lake. We also loved how conveniently located the cottage is from our favourite villages such as Ambleside and Grasmere. This stay was just what we needed for a break away from the city and we will definitely be coming back again and will be recommending Townfoot Cottage and Sykes/Lake Lovers to our friends and family. The whole process of booking was smooth and the staff were always super friendly and helpful. Thank you!

Dear Hannah. Thanks for the positive feedback and I am very happy that you appreciated the facilities and enjoyed your stay so much. I hope to welcome you back some time! Thanks, Alun Property Owner

LANGDALE

Often referred to as Great Langdale, to distinguish it from nearby Little Langdale, Langdale's name comes from the Old Norse for 'long valley'. Langdale is a u-shaped valley formed by glaciers. Set in the centre of the Lake District, Langdale is probably best known for its mountains, from the Langdale Pikes – a group of mountains on the northern side of the village – to England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
