"A wonderful tranquil week in a lovely cottage."
The owner Ann's attention to detail is flawless. We were blessed with stunning weather for September, there are fabulous views and walks right from the front door and the Cuckoo Brow pub at the top of the lane is brilliant. (Very reasonable prices too for the Lakes). A beautiful comfortable house in a magnificent area...if you're looking for a relaxing break away from it all in a fully equipped house then this is it.
-
"A lovely comfortable house."
Amazing peace and lovely views. The owner is considerate telling us when the property was cleaned and sorting out a bin issue for us. The area is just across from honeypot Bowness but still very peaceful. There are 2 pubs within walking distance. Get a food delivery as the shops are a drive away. Good for children as well as oldies.
-
"Lovely cottage and location - walking distance to Windermere and Hill Top."
Really made to feel welcome in what felt like a home away from home. Enclosed garden perfect for our young children and they loved having sheep as neighbours. Would recommend!
-
"Beautiful Property with excellent facilities and an amazing view."
A real cosy “home from home” feel to it. The beds were really comfortable and the bathroom and shower room were excellent. The view across the fields is lovely and it’s very quiet and private.
-
"Bishop Howe is a beautiful 'home from home' cottage."
Anne has thought about every detail to make a stay just perfect, and we wanted for nothing. We were also treated to some jams, chutneys & milk. We know the area well, and often travel up for the day, being fairly local, but we like to spend a longer time in The Lake too. Our week away was brilliant, with lots of walks, time spent browsing the lovely local shops, enjoying the festive Christmas lights, and tucking into a delicious Sunday lunch at the Tower Bank Arms. And every day we returned to a relaxing, warm, cosy and quiet cottage.

"I have never stayed in a rental property which was so complete."
Lots of cooking utensils! Also very charming cottage, which made us feel like home and from where you could make beautiful walks. Painful when our vacation came to an end. I truly didn’t want to leave that quiet paradise. 100% recommended!

"A lovely cottage in a very beautiful location."
-
"Bishop Howe is a very comfortable and homely property with a very quiet location."
If you want peace and tranquility with a gorgeous view then you will find it here. Handy for local walks and to explore further afield. I would recommend stocking up with supplies as nearest decent shopping is at Ambleside or Windermere. Anne is very approachable and the complimentary jams and relish were delicious. WiFi is also good, for those who want it. We would certainly stay again.
-
"Beautiful cottage it was so comfortable and homely."
All the facilities that we needed for our stay. We will certainly be staying there again.
-
"Such a wonderful homely 'house'."
Everything was considered to make our stay as comfortable as possible! A perfect location for a wonderful holiday.
-
"Lovely house with a comfortable and charming design."
Lovely views and location in a quiet village next to Near sawrey, Windermere ferry and 2 pubs. It is Well Suited for a family. The only minus is terrible access with car to the house itself . Car rental got scraped on one if the very narrow turns and was damaged. I would advise the owner to clear the shrubs and anything to better access. We would love to come back (with a smaller car). Also be advised there are minimal toiletries / paper etc and bring everything of your own.

"The property is full of character and beautiful."
Everything you need is catered for. Little extras provided by owner that gives it a personal touch. A nice, peaceful location and well situated for travelling around the Lakes. The owner was great to communicate with and we knew she was on hand if we needed her. Highly recommend.

"We had a lovely peaceful week's stay at Bishop Howe."
It's a fantastic house in a lovely setting - what a picturesque view to the front! This proved to be a great base for exploring locally as well as touring the Lakes. You are only a short walk to Hilltop, the local pubs, and a short drive/cycle to the car ferry for access to Bowness. We visited Hawkshead, Ambleside, Grassmere, Kendal and Keswick. The house was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed (except a hair dryer which we forgot to pack). There's ample parking to the rear via a narrow lane just up the road.
-
"The cottage was extremely clean and tidy, very cosy and comfortable and had all essentials needed."
The beds were really comfortable and the garden was really pretty with picnic benches at the front and back. it was a very peaceful location but only a short distance from Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and Coniston. The views from the cottage were amazing and the scenery in general was stunning. We saw lots of wildlife and especially rabbits. We had wonderful weather and did lots of walking around the different Lakes. Thank you so much for the welcome pack and delicious eggs. We felt really welcome and at home and would love to come back again. Would definitely recommend this cottage. Would also recommend the Tower Bank Arms for a meal - the food was amazing.
-
"Such a lovely homely cottage."
We stayed in Nov and had a great time. Loved the walks from the door over the hill to Hawkshead and to Bowness via the small car and passenger ferry. 2 pubs within walking distance and back home to a warm cottage with a real fire. Tx

"Very comfortable and clean and very homely"
-
"Great attention to detail and really homely."
Looking forward to our next visit!
-
"A very pleasant home to stay in."
Very clean , quality beds and a well equipped kitchen. Enjoyed the open fire in the evenings. A wonderful location , able to access lovely walks from the doorstep. A great restaurant and exceptional food at the Sawrey Hotel. Altogether the perfect location to explore the beauties of the Lake District.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay, beautiful views from our windows, pub was easy walking distance, providing good food, but best to book as its very popular!"
The owner is friendly and helpful!
-
"Lovely cottage and well looked after by Ann."
-
"Absolutely gorgeous stay."
The property was immaculately clean with everything you could need. The sofas and beds are super comfy, kitchen really well equipped, log fire so cosy, utility room really easy to navigate, shower super powerful with loads of hot water- we could go on but we just loved it! Highlight was opening the curtains every morning to open fields with all the lambs skipping around. We loved the location and walked to Hawkshead one day and another down to the ferry across to Bowness. We felt really central to lots of places we wanted to go (Ambleside/Coniston etc). We had two young kiddies and the rooms worked really well as did the layout of the space. Thank you so much for a gorgeous stay, we hope to return.

"What a fantastic, relaxing and comfortable weeks break we had at Bishop Howe despite the storms and wet weather!"
We were greeted with fresh farm eggs, local jams and relishes and a few other essentials. The cottage itself is extremely clean, comfortable and cosy, kitted out with all the mod cons and has more than ample space - we are a family of 5 and hardly used the 2nd lounge. The beds are especially comfy and we all had a great night sleep from day one. Every night was spent in front of the open fire playing games with days walking and visiting local towns. The position of the cottage is perfect with the Cuckoo Brow Inn a few minutes walk away and gorgeous walks from the door. It is very quiet and rural but not isolated and easy to get to the surrounding little towns by car. A lot of thought and care has been put into this holiday cottage and I love the way the local industry is promoted throughout - we loved the Herdwick tweed cushions so much we bought a few from the shop in Grasmere! Ann, the owner is very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend this holiday cottage and plan to return again soon.

"Fantastic. Everything you need."
Great location. Wonderful holiday.
-
"Bishop How is a truly fantastic property, very clean and well cared for."
Lots of attention to detail for the most comfortable stay; from throws and fluffy towels to a really thoughtful welcome pack. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to go back very soon.
-
"Fantastic accommodation, very clean and a welcome pack was there to greet us."
Location is great perfect to explore the wonders of the Lake District. Would definitely stay in this accommodation again.
-
"The cottage was excellent, and I would definitely recommend; it was exactly as described and very comfortable."
It's in a great location for visiting nearby towns and villages, and a perfect location for some excellent walks. It is also only a 10-minute walk to Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top.
-
"Beautiful place, situated in a lovely peaceful location"
-
"Lovely cottage, the pictures don’t do it justice!"
Quiet surroundings and gorgeous views, we really enjoyed our stay and it was perfect fir our family. Would love to go back again.
-
"Wonderful place."
Wonderful house.
-
"The four of us who shared the cottage all agreed it was a well kept, clean and comfortable house."
The situation was lovely too. It would have been useful to have had a hook on the back of the shower room door, for dressing gown/clothes. Also, a chair in the front bedroom would have been handy, as somewhere to place clothes at night. We couldn't get the tin opener to open a tin, so have left an old fashioned, but trustworthy opener in the drawer.
-
"Lovely cottage, very roomy and well laid out."
Beautiful views from every window. Fresh clean decor, it looked to be recently refurbished throughout. Two lovely pubs within easy walking distance. We were sad to leave.
-
"Beautifully kept house in a perfect location."
Peace and tranquillity with a wonderful view. Little welcoming touches made it more personal and nothing was too much trouble when we reported the washing machine not working. We didnt really need it but wanted to let the owner know. I really didn't want to leave.
-
"We have stayed in Far Sawrey on many occasions, it’s a gorgeous area with easy access to Windermere via the local ferry, if you want a more lively atmosphere."
This is a beautiful cottage, a perfect rural retreat, we had a lovely relaxing break. The owner left us some welcoming treats too such as local preserves and fresh farm eggs. There are lots of walks to enjoy straight from the door as well as bike rides. The views from every aspect are gorgeous and outdoor seating is placed appropriately in all the lovely garden spaces to take advantage of both sunrises and sunsets. You can sit and listen to the sound of silence, well apart from the sheep baaing and occasional cows mooing. Would definitely return, thank you for a wonderful break, Jasmin and family
-
"The cottage looked good on the website but exceeded our expectations when we arrived!"
It was just perfect and had everything that we needed for our stay, being warm and cosy with a real fire to light at night. The only bad thing was that we were only there for one week, and it wasn’t long enough! There are wonderful walks from the front door, and more challenging ones a short car journey away, and of course the Cuckoo Brow Inn just at the top of the lane where we had a Mother’s Day lunch. We’ve had a fantastic week, thank you!
-
"Great holiday cottage."
Recently refurbished so everything was spotless. Beautiful location with lots of activities nearby. Can't wait to go back with my family!
-
"The house is very well appointed and comfortable."
The view out of the front window over the rural landscape is also stunning, especially at sunrise. It is well worth setting the alarm, so that you do not miss it. The owners were also keen to make sure that everything was perfect and were very friendly. The location is away from the main tourist towns and because of that it is extremely quiet - perfect for that get away from it all holiday if that is what you are after. There are also a few local walks that get you to lovely view points within half an hour of leaving the house. I would certainly book the house again for future visits. The main supermarkets at the other side of the lake are only half an hour away but the location of the house is worth that little extra drive.
-
"Great accomodataion and location."
Would stay there again
-
"Wonderful holiday in a stunning area - the house is extremely comfortable, beautifully decorated and up to date and well equipped, we were an extended family group staying in both properties and would highly recommend these houses, the area and the lovely owner - we would love to return as there is so much to do and even 2 weeks is not enough!"
! The grandchildren enjoyed seeing the farmer rounding up the sheep with his quad bike and sheepdog right outside out cottage gates - fabulous!! Thank you so much for such lovely holiday homes.
-
"Mrs Phipps was unable to go on this holiday as her husband was ill so I went in her place (He is on the mend now thank goodness!"
!)....which was an unexpected surprise! and you were very helpful re arranging this for her! The cottage was lovely and I felt so relaxed and at home. It was beautifully decorated had everything I needed. The views were lovely and there were plenty of paces to sit outside. The fresh flowers on the picnic table were a particularly lovely touch Thank you for a wonderful memorable holiday
-
"Loved this house and its location."
Exceeded our expectations based on the snowy pictures! Garden has gorgeous views over the hills to watch the sunsets, we loved eating out here. The village is very quaint and peaceful, just a tiny bit off the beaten track to avoid the coach parties, but still so close to everything you want to see. Excellent popular pub too. We enjoyed walks over the fields to Hilltop, and down to Lake Windermere. We travelled with a 2 year old and a baby, and found the house suited us very well. A travel cot would have been a bonus and saved us bringing two, but that's the only suggestion. The beds we had were very comfortable, and we found it a well furnished home from home. Would thoroughly recommend this house and location for the Lakes.
-
"Bishop Howe was a beautiful cottage done to an extremely high standard with lovely soft furnishings and everything you need for a lovely holiday."
-
"The cottage was beautiful and very comfortable - we had a wonderful time."
-
"Returning to the Lakes is always a joy, but our stay at Bishops Howe was truly a 'home from home' experience!"
The difference being the tremendous views from most of the rooms, and the tranquility that engulfed us as soon as we arrived. This is our first visit to this location, and the wonderful walks from the house, together with our ferry trip across Windermere to reach the house, were memorable. We will certainly return again.
