  • "Perfect little get away!"

.Great location, facilities were excellent and we thoroughly our stay. Only thing to note would be there seemed to be a smell coming from the drains (mainly in the kitchen sink) which then floated in the kitchen and lounge area but that's all. Will be recommending to family and friends.

We came back completely refreshed and looking forward to going back next year.

  • "Loved the location."

The building itself holds character. It is a proper rural country side escape from crowded city and town. Beautiful lake in walking distance.

  • "Overall it was a very good location and accommodation was more modern and new than we expected, which was great."

Bit more information with a local map of the surrounding and things to do would have helped to get the best out of the short vacation. Instead of written instructions of how to go to farm shop and facilities, please include a map. We would love to visit again and highly recommend the place.

I don't expect to be asked to strip linen and empty rubbish when renting accommodation.

The property manager, Debbie, made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. We are very glad that we stumbled across this property online, and hope to stay again some day.

The location was great for exploring the lake District and the dog (Max) thought it was ideal too. Local Pubs we're nice with good food and great beer. All round made it a fantastic holiday.

  • "Heating and building insulation not adequate in cold weather."

Storage heater in the property did not work properly and were difficult to alter the settings. The stove in the lounge area provided enough heat for the main bedroom and the lounge if the door was left open, but you have to pay for the logs to use in the stove.

  • "I booked wastatwer cottage and i thought it is on the ground floor."

The listing does not say that it s a first floor cottage noe does the email confirm. When we checked in, it was smelling so bad because someone had smoked a cigerrette insiode the cottage. They offered us a free upgrade which did not have the views, the wastwaters did. We had no other choice and had to accept this. Day 1: The electric storage radiator (god knows from which century) did not work. Day 2: They fixed the raddiators, but can not control the temprature or even switch them off now. It was a nightmare. We had sleep in different rooms with open windows and take chances with the insects coming in. Overall experience was worse than 2 stars and god knows how they managed to get 4 star for that property. It ruined my holidays to certain extent and would definitely look for a compensation. I did not expect this after paying spo much. There were cheaper alternatives on internet, but I specifically chose this to ensure the comfort for my family.

About the location

SAWREY

Hawkshead 2 miles.

The village of Sawrey is situated two miles from Hawkshead down the eastern side of Esthwaite Water, overlooked by the woods and tarns of Claife Heights. Sawrey consists of two separate hamlets - Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey - both with a cluster of picturesque cottages, tea rooms and pubs. Near Sawrey is famous for Hill Top, the 17th century farmhouse where Beatrix Potter wrote her acclaimed children's stories. Now a museum, owned and run by the National Trust, Hill Top is one of the most visited houses in the Lake District. Far Sawrey is the hamlet furthest away from Hawkshead and the nearest to the ferry point on Windermere. It offers a church and pub/restaurant with a beer garden. There are good walks in the area, including those to Claife Heights and in Grizedale Forest. It's also a great base for enjoying a wide variety of typical Lakeland pursuits - with watersports close at hand on Lake Windermere, fishing on nearby Esthwaite Water and, of course, fell walking.
