  • "The area is beautiful, we really enjoyed our outings BUT we paid a lot of money for this cottage and expected the standards of accommodation to match our other experiences of Sykes Cottages."

    The lounge /kitchen is as shown but the bedrooms (or 'cells') are totally unacceptable for the price. For us old folk sleeping was miserable. The mattresses are cheap, hard and worn in all the rooms. We tried different beds and have photos. There is nothing in the double rooms but the bed - if you want to put anything down there is only the stone floor. Neither of the over the bed lights worked - and the owner already knew that. She brought a lamp for one room when asked but offered nothing else. The provision right through was mean. Limited light and mirrors, no kitchen paper towel, no dvds, no information on recycling/use of equipment/the area. Nothing that wasn't absolutely necessary. The description says no wifi or towels. There is wifi for £8 per day. There are towels for £1 each. The impression is that they are charging as much as they can for as little as they can give. We would recommend the area but we would never recommend this cottage.

    Thank you for your comments. The bedrooms and stone floors are rustic and rural in nature, in keeping with the character of the property. All beds have storage drawers underneath for guest use and two bedrooms also have a clothes rack.. There are mirrors in each bathroom and a large mirror in the hallway downstairs. The wall lighting will of course be checked. We don't advertise as having DVDs and we do provide dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid. As a rural property we also don't advertise wifi as included so as to set guest expectations that it is likely not available,although if available at the time of the stay we help if we can. We have also ensured the advert states that towels are not included. We do have 4 containers near the kitchen for separation of general waste and recycling and we dispose of that during changeover. There is also a bin outside for general waste. We appreciate that mattress comfort can be very subjective but we can reassure guests that they are all orthopaedic mattresses. Property Owner

  • "Fabulous conversion of barn, location and facilities overall good."

    Perhaps include more pans, hanging hooks in bathrooms, check light bulbs in downstair corridor as there were none and was very dark at bedtime without working lights.

  • "Lovely ‘unfussy’ barn conversion in a super location."

    The photos don’t do it justice! Great cycling on quiet roads in every direction from the front door. Recommended.

  • "Some friends and I had a great week with Ash Pot Barn as our base."

    Very luckily we had great weather, but even without that, the barn was exactly what we were looking for. Some of us walked locally, some drove to the lakes, some days we explored the northern dales. Whatever we did during the day, the barn was a cozy and spacious place to spend the evening together, with everything you need to hand. It's in a beautiful, secluded location meaning you really get that "away from it all" feeling. And don't be put off by negative feedback about the owners. Because of Covid (from your point view and theirs) they're not going to impose themselves on you but if your paths cross, as our did, you'll find them friendly and welcoming. Recommended.

  • "Ash pot barn, is in the most beautiful place!"

    The veiws are amazing! You are in the country side, with sheep and cows as your neighbours. The barn it’s self is well equipped and clean. The dishwasher wasn’t working very well tho, so washing up it was but wasn’t a problem. Do expect some webs and spiders every now and then you are in the country side! A washing machine was supplied, BUT no where available to dry the clothes, we used hangers and hang them in the windows, but would be good to have a washing line! There is no WiFi, and going with teenagers was a concern before we went but we always had 4g which was good. You are a drive away from the main places to visit Windermere was about 27miles, but the drive is worth it to return back to ash pot barn. About 4 min drive is a pub, the fat lamb! The food was amazing! Lush garden. The owners live next door but never saw or heard anything all week. The barn is big and loads of room, we went as 9 people two family’s! And had more than enough room. Well recommended and would return

  • "The pictures do not do this place justice."

    It is very beautiful both inside and outside. The location is wonderful. If you are looking for a peaceful and quite location this is for you. The owners (who live next door) were not very friendly and did not speak to us all week, maybe there were rightly concerned with Covid 19, which was not an issue. I can highly recommend this holiday let.

  • "The views surrounding the property exceeded our expectations they were amazing."

    The cottage was lovely and very spacious and I can imagine during winter with the log fire going it would be lovely and cosy. If we were to go again we would need to remember hand soap for the bathrooms as there was none provided, which was not good after a 4 hour drive and 3 young children desperate for the loo. Overall we had a fantastic time.

The property

Ravenstonedale 4 miles. An outstanding, stone-built, semi-detached barn conversion, beautifully situated on the side of Wild Boar Fell, overlooking the Howgills, 4 miles from the village of Ravenstonedale.

Lovingly renovated, Ash Pot Barn combines original features with modern conveniences, to provide a quality holiday home with 'upside down' accommodation to take advantage of the magnificent views.

The first floor open plan living area boasts a vaulted, beamed ceiling, open to the eaves, a fabulous bespoke kitchen and a warming woodburner, while a lovely stone staircase adds to the property's charm.

With access to a hundred square miles of open fell, nearby footpaths will lead you to stunning, hidden waterfalls and tiny becks, while above the house is an amazing limestone pavement.

With the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks to discover, this is a superb base from which to explore the area.

Kirkby Stephen 5 miles; Sedbergh 10 miles.

The tranquil village of Ravenstonedale lies at the foot of the Howgill Fells, quietly situated within the newly extended Yorkshire Dales National Park. A delightful rural village with a thriving local community and many traditional old dwellings, Ravenstonedale boasts a charming Parish Church and the remains of the old Gilbertine Priory. Hill farming is the principal means of income in the area and an agricultural show is still held once a year, echoing days gone by when both markets and fairs were held in the village. Once described by the famous author, A Wainwright, as one of Westmorland’s loveliest villages, the area boasts many walking, horse riding and cycling routes, whilst the nearby attractions provide something for everybody. Visit the Settle to Carlisle Railway Line, the magnificent Howgill Fells and the stunning Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks. A superb location at any time of the year.
