  • "Positives: Good location, good parking, good space inside , good facilities."

Negatives 1) Could have been cleaner. Superficially OK, but under cushions, top of cupboards dusty, and bedding a little musty. 2) Beds very uncomfortable – spongy (memories of student days!) Overall, this could be a very good choice, but beds MUST be changed. We hope this helps

  • "We stayed in Ploughshare a couple of months ago and enjoyed it so much we looked to book again for our next week off."

It wasn’t available so we booked and stayed at The Furrows this time. We enjoyed it just as much as our stay at Ploughshare, both properties have all the things you need fo a relaxing staycation. We found both properties very comfortable. It’s a short walk to the canal and easily accessible for the countryside or coast. Anne and Robert are very welcoming hosts, waiting to greet you on arrival but not intrusive afterwards. However, when we had a query about the water, Anne was almost at the door before I had ended the call and was quick to sort it out. The pint of milk, teabags, coffee and traybake slices left for us,also keep you going until you get to the shops. Robert alerted us to seeing the arrival of a calf while we were there, something I had only seen on tv before. We are certainly looking to see when we can return.

  • "My husband and I had a lovely stay at The Furrows."

The space was bigger than we expected from the pictures in the listing. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed to self cater for the week, and the Super King bed was a real treat. The cottage is in a handy location, and we were able to easily visit Morecambe, Lancaster and Blackpool for day trips. We also went into the nearby town of Garstang and enjoyed the Castle & Canal walk that starts at the Booths. The cottage is on a working farm so there are the sounds and smells of a farm to be expected when outside, but it was never a problem inside the cottage itself. I particularly liked making friends with the goats who would to come to the fence line to say hello whenever we got in or out of our car! I would recommend The Furrows to anyone looking for a lovely cottage that they can explore Lancashire from.

It was everything we had hoped for and more. Much more spacious than we expected, extremely comfortable warm and welcoming. The peace and quiet was very therapeutic. The cottage was well equipped, nothing overdone or underdone. We had all the kitchen equipment we needed to cook our Christmas meals, and a lovely setting to eat them in. Our hosts were lovely and respected our space yet were at hand when we called. We hope to visit again Thank you

I did also find the kitchen was underequipped and both kitchen and bathroom could have had more cleaning products overall it was not a good start to my holiday for myself and my elderly mother.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear that the property didn't live up to your expectations. Please note that all bed linen is freshly laundered and the property is aired thoroughly prior to arrival. Close to Lancaster, which was very interesting to visit, especially Williamson Park,{great woodland walk, and wonderful views over Morecambe Bay}. The bed was awful, did not sleep great at all, woke up with headache and backache each morning. The cottage itself is in a lovely location and the little shortbread and milk was a lovely touch. I think it would be useful to have maybe a welcome leaflet though as we didn’t know where to put rubbish or anything like that.

Best of all was the warm welcome from the owners who met and showed us around when we arrived, called later to make sure we were happy and halfway through the week brought us clean towels, which was much appreciated AND they came to wave us off on the day we left, so thoughtful.

  • "The directions need to be more specific, i."

    E. state that the property is off the A6. It was very warm and windows did not open very wide at all, so a fan would have been useful. We had to buy a bath mat, toilet rolls, kitchen towel, scourer and dish cloth. A coat stand in the hall would be useful as there is nowhere to hang coats if wet. There is only one small useful mirror in the bathroom. There is only one bedside lamp. A chest of drawers would be better than the chair in the bedroom. The bed was large, but we could feel the springs in the mattress. The bedroom door continually kept opening. The toilet brush was disgustingly filthy. The mid week towel change was good. The shower was excellent. The welcome tray and milk was appreciated.

It is within an easy commute to Lancaster and not to far from Blackpool. However, there is more to do in Lancaster and the surrounding area. Not far from the cottage is the popular Walling ice- cream parlour. The cottage was well equipped, cutlery, crockery etc, but did lack a freezer in the fridge. So if you stay for a week don't buy or bring food that you need to put in a freezer. I would still recommend this cottage. ********Owner Response****** Thank you for your feedback, we have now added a freezer to the property.

Warm welcome from owners, during our stay they were not intrusive but am sure they would have helped had we had a problem. Private sitting out area was appreciated. Cottage very clean and was generally well equipped. Whilst we did not use the laundry facilities it was good to know that they were available. Fresh towels after a few days was a lovely touch as was the welcome pack of milk, tea coffee and cake! Some minor suggestions below to enhance the experience further; Replace armchair in bedroom with a chest/table on which to place mirror. Mirror is currently on a low windowsill which makes hair-drying challenging! Provision of an brief information pack to include things such as local walks, check-out procedure, disposal of rubbish/recycling. Thank-you for a lovely week and for arranging such fantastic weather!

This charming two storey home has everything you could possible want as a break from the 'rat race'. It is on a working farm (I loved the goats!) but only a few minutes drive from the town of Garstang with it's supermarkets, picturesque walks and plenty of places to eat. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners and the tea, coffee and biscuits were most welcome! It was a lovely touch too that we were given fresh towels half way through our stay. The home was spotless and well equipped. The upside down style was perfect, allowing plenty of light and heat into the lounge and kitchen. The Wifi was fantastic and the smart TV was great for cosy nights in. I stay in several holiday cottages throughout the year and I have to say 'The Furrows' ticked all the boxes. 10/10

  • "This property is an excellent choice for anyone with an interest in northern Lancashire, and the Forest of Bowland."

Very picturesque. A lot of thought has gone into the planning of this conversion; each flatlet has a separate outdoor sitting-out area, and there is ample parking for at least 3 cars in the specially constructed car park. This is a working dairy farm, complete with the all the rural smells and sounds of the countryside (plus rabbits and pheasants), but certainly nothing intrusive. It is well equipped for a self catered stay, with a generous fridge (without freezer compartment), and full kitchen. The whole property is immaculately clean, and a credit to the owners; since this is no mean feat on a working farm. BT broadband provides a full range of TV and radio services through a large flatscreen TV. Cell phone coverage is poor, and non-existent inside the thick stone walls of the building, but there is a separate internet router for each property, with boosters providing full wi-fi coverage throughout the two floors of The Furrows. Being rural UK the bandwidth isn’t great, but it works well for browsing and voice traffic. This is a property that the owners take a justifiable pride in, and they are friendly and helpful hosts, and a good source of useful local knowledge.
