  • "While this property is well described generally,We feel renters should be made aware that there may be people living in the basement on occasions(as was the case during our stay)."

This in its self was not a problem but We should have been informed.Additionally there is a door from the hallway which gives access to the stairs into the basement. It is locked from the basement side but there was no locking system from our side .An additional lock or bolt(as is usually the case in hotel rooms with adjoining doors)would give a better feeling of security. This apart,we had a lovely stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable stay. We take your comments on board, and will look at the listing. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Very clean and tidy property."

Ideal location for all amenities. Had a great time.

  • "Very comfortable and clean property in a great location."

We would certainly use this cottage again. The only improvement I would highlight would be to have a few more cooking utensils and pans and we only had 2 bath towels for 4 guests. Other than that, it's a great accommodation.

  • "Really, really need blackout blinds in the bedroom - woken up every morning by bright streaming sunshine at 4 o clock."

Proper pillows rather than cushions on the bed, and a thinner duvet option for summer would be good. Could do with a 4 slice toaster rather than 2, and some kitchen tongs. Larger glasses would also be handy. Rug in the living room could do with being held in place with something - very slippery on the wooden floor. Parking space was fine, have a large car and although it took a three point turn, a competent driver would easily get in and out. Probably wouldn't get an SUV in there though! Location okay, on a main road so noisy. Perfect for the pier, but quite a walk into town (20 minutes roughly). Back view of the YHA not great but front view of fields of sheep is lovely. Other facilities were fine - great shower, comfortable chairs and sofa in the living room, hairdryer in the bedroom, plenty of towels. Overall a good stay.

  • "Hawthorn Cottage in Ambleside was a perfect place for us to stay as 3 adults looking for a central location to visit areas around Lake Windemere."

It was spotlessly clean, the beds were comfortable and all facilities and utilities that we needed were provided. The lake and Ambleside pier was just around the corner and is a very pretty location and the town and beautiful walks close by. The cottage is on a single lane road which is quite busy in the day but was quiet at night and as we were out all day, this was fine for us. The parking space provided at the back is quite tight (we have a Mondeo) and so we often used the free parking by the pier when we returned in the evening. We were able to get our car in the space though with some manoeuvring. We were extremely pleased with our choice, thank you for a great experience, we had a wonderful holiday.

  • "The holiday met expectations."

Location very good for the lake, had to use the back bedroom though as road noise meant sleep was compromised on first night. Cleanliness very good, just one point was the shower mat was mouldy underneath which was slightly off putting but only a minor point. Flooring throughout needed some attention as there were large gaps between the wooden floor planks especially in back bedroom down one side of the bed. All the above are minor points for the owner to improve the experience but didnt spoil the stay. Documentation in the cottage said there would be a questionnaire to complete on arrival but there wasn't one.

Thank you for your most recent feedback. we are pleased you were satisfied with your stay at Hawthorn Cottage but felt your first night was disturbed by traffic noise. As we are aware the summer season has been exceptionally busy with staycation visitors to the area and, with Friday generally being the changeover day, vehicles may have been passing later into the evening than usual. Also, as with many other properties, we have experienced a high volume of guests and were unable to access to rectify the flooring which has now been attended to. Our non-slip shower mat displayed only a very minor spec and has now been replaced which we hope did not spoil your stay with us to much. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was nice and the location being near the lake was also good, although there is no direct view of the lake as the YHA is in the way."

The proximity to the main road was a real shame as it was very noisy all day long. The interior is nicely decorated and very comfortable. It was a really nice location for us to spend a week and explore the lakes (and also the local fish and chip shop and really good cafe were great). About a 10-15 min walk in to Ambleside was fine, it's an easy walk and being away from the busy tourist town was fine. The parking space at the cottage is quite small and not suitable if you have anything larger than a hatchback really. Small irritations were only being given half a toilet roll and an almost empty bottle of washing up liquid - why not some more to keep us going through the week? But overall a nice enough stay. We wouldn't return as the road noise, lack of view and a parking spot too small for our car were all a disappointment but the cottage was nice enough other than that.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback after your recent stay at Hawthorn Cottage. The owner would like to respond with the following; It is unfortunate that Mr Bond and guests felt compromised by the location of Hawthorn Cottage. Whilst we can be found only 50 metres from the waters edge of Lake Windermere we do not specify there is a direct view of the lake from the cottage, although a partial view may be seen from the rear. Hawthorn Cottage is located beside a main road and, while we do have double glazing and insulation, it must be remembered their stay coincided with an exceptionally busy summer holiday period compounded further by the increased volume of staycation visitors. Parking is adequate for most vehicles, including SUVs, though we appreciate not everyone may be confident parking. Additional toilet rolls are provided but it appears the party were unable to locate them in the bathroom. These have now been left clearly visible. Also adequate washing up liquid is left for incoming guests for a week stay and changed at below half level - there is also a dishwasher with sufficient tablets for the duration. We suggest guests familiarize themselves with our location and four star gold accommodation which the vast majority give positive feedback and experience enjoyable stays, often returning year on year. About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
