"Firstly there was no essential welcome pack very disappointing."
Always receive one of these wherever I’ve stayed.
I think there should be clear step by step instructions within in a manual directive to assist holiday makers on how to operate items within the property, ie microwave, cooker, living room fire (which became needed urgently as there was no central heating one day and it was unbelievably cold ) .As there was no such clear manual the owner had to be contacted on more than one occasion which is not ideal . TV could do with upgrading allowing holidaymakers more viewing choice.
I’m unable to score high for cleanliness as I found a spider in the kitchen cupboard in one of the dishes.
Also issues outside the back area, gate to steps, which lead to where cars come and go, broken and off its hinges and lay on its side, therefore security for my little dog was compromised.
All in all, I was disappointed with the chosen property, and although it may look appealing, the upstairs /downstairs thing didn’t work for me at all.
On a positive note the bed was comfy and jacuzzi bath was welcoming and relaxing.

"Very friendly owners, lovely welcome with scones& jam, very clean & tidy property."
On the day of arrival Steve had the heating on for us and it nice & cosy. The Bothy had everything that you were likely to require during your stay. Lovely property perched on a quiet road, ideal for taking the dog out a walk in the morning & evening. One very small niggle was the rather tight turn to drive in through the stone pillars, beware if you have a large vehicle. Saying that, I got used to it by the end of the week. If you love walking and sightseeing this is the ideal spot for a holiday. The nearest town, Alston, had all the amenities you require and is only a short drive away. One disappointment is that a few cafes in the area do not accept dogs, The Nook and the Station cafe were 2 such cases. Overall it was a lovely holiday and hopefully get back again in the future.

"A really lovely place to stay if you want beautiful scenery, to be surrounded by nature, relaxation, peace & tranquility."
The walking trails are in abundance. Area is remote, so take plenty of supplies with you. Nearest village is a short drive away. I did find not many local shops/bars/restaurants/cafe open, odd opening times too for a holiday season, may have something to do with the recent pandemic perhaps? Hosts were lovely souls that made you very welcome & on hand close by if you needed them for anything. I would say the cottage was more of a 3/4 star in rating. Although well equipped with a beautiful bathroom, it could do with updating. New mattress reqiured for the bed is a must. On the whole one can't complain at all, as one has come back absolutely relaxed including dog!

"We stayed at the Bothy - a real gem of the cottage."
Stephen and Sandra have modernised it to the highest standard. Unlike many holiday cottages we stayed at in the past, there is nothing shabby about the Bothy - the furniture, the equipment, the decoration are of the high quality. After a day of cycling or hiking, we spent some amazing evenings by the fireplace. My wife simply loved the jacuzzi. The bed was super comfortable too. We both look forward to coming back to the Bothy in the future.

"The cottage was generally clean but needs a little bit more attention to detail."
The bed was very comfortable and clean. The overall cleanliness of the cottage was average. The outside seating area was very disappointing, dirty seating and and was desperately in need of a good clean all round. .

The Bothy is in stunning surroundings in the middle of nowhere. Great for walks, but if the weather is not good it is the perfect place to just sit and read.
We loved it and would certainly recommend staying at The Bothy again. Steve and Sandra are really helpful, but also not intrusive.

The scenery is spectacular and the owners couldn’t be nicer. They brought us warm scones and jam when we arrived. Delicious. Also they live very close and were there if we wanted any information about where to go and what to see.

"The Bothy is a wonderful little cottage, perfect for two people seeking a quiet retreat."
It offered plenty of space and was well appointed with everything you need for a short break. The location is good for exploring the North Pennines, the Lakes and the east coast. The scones on arrival were a nice touch and helped us to settle in, as did the owners Steve and Sandra who were very helpful in imparting their local knowledge of the area. Would definitely go back again.

Our hosts we’re extremely friendly and welcoming - after driving 8 hrs to get there we were greeted by a plate of warm homemade scones with jam.
Nenthead is a picturesque peaceful and friendly little village just outside Penrith.
We will definitely be returning for longer to allow us to really immerse ourselves into the many different adventures on offer. The route from the motorway to get up to Nenthead is a real drivers route - loved it!.
