"Fabulous semi-detached house in Gargrave, overlooking the canal locks."
Beautifully appointed and immaculately clean. All mod cons, including dishwasher and tumble dryer.
Beautiful linens and fabulous bathrooms/ ensuites. Also a fantastic free standing bath in the main bedroom.
Plenty of cleaning products and dishwasher tablets left. Also a few coffee pods (no tea or milk but there was half a pack of instant coffee). Also, the owners kindly left a box of chocolates.
The walks along the canal were great and everyone was very friendly. Sitting on the balcony every day all the regular walkers would chat.
The small back patio had a metal table and chairs and two wicker chairs (also a hot tub but I didn't use that). The instruction book said bikes were available to rent but I preferred walking. Also there were two allocated parking spaces. The owners lived a few houses away, should any problems have arisen (but they didn't)
Absolutely loved the house and environment and was sad to leave. Many thanks, Clare

"Excellent location, Clean and very well equipped."
4 retired nurses thoroughly enjoyed their annual getaway at Lock View. Nicola and Kyle were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble during our stay.. the welcome wine, chocolates and milk were a lovely touch. Parking for 2 cars and very secure, due to quiet location. Not far to drive to Skipton and Grassington. Canal walks in both directions most enjoyable especially if walking by the canal to the left into the village of gargrave (very pretty) and a stop at the Allison Wiffen ceramics is a must. She has the most wonderful selection of jewelry and ceramics(Out of Lock View follow canal to the left, come to the bridge turn right and the ceramics studio is on the left. We are talking of a return visit it was so lovely.

"We've stayed in one of the cottages before and expected the same but were sadly let down."
The decoration was a little tired, mould in the shower, cobwebs in high corners of the lounge, the top floor bathroom, dust under the bed etc which left us feeling disappointed. Maybe a more thorough clean is needed. Facilities were great and we wanted for nothing but the grubby areas and dog smell left us less than impressed. Last year's cottage was spotlessly clean, no dog smell and the decoration was impeccable.
We're so sorry to hear that some areas have been missed whilst cleaning, we always pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our cottages and can assure that a thorough deep clean will be carried out personally before our next guests arrive. Property Owner

".On arrival we found dirty cupboards in the kitchen and cleaned those that we intended to use, the hob and oven were dirty so we left them as found, the toaster trays were full of crumbs and also crumbs on the worktop which we cleaned, blocked shower drains due to build up of soap scum, hair and debris in first floor and second floor main bedroom en-suites. As it was 11"
.30pm we cleaned the drains and then told the owners the next morning and also mentioned about dirty kitchen cupboards. Nicola arrived to check the cupboards and clean them but was concerned that we had 3 dogs which she claimed she was unaware of and disgruntled. As their advert only allowed 2 dogs Sykes had obtained permission for 3 before we booked Lock View and fortunately they confirmed it in writing which we showed Nicola. She was very annoyed and her attitude was very distasteful and upsetting. I contacted Sykes who confirmed that 3 dogs were on record and they would contact the owners. When stripping the beds for departure we found the pillows were badly stained as pillow protectors were not fitted and a mattress protector is also needed on the bed in the main bedroom. A lot of the crockery was chipped and needs replacing. Only 1 hand towel and 1 bath towel were supplied for each double room. 2 of each should be supplied. Parking is only suitable for 2 small cars. Fortunately the adjoining property was vacant otherwise we would have had problems with our 2 medium sized cars.

"We were very disappointed with the kitchen."
Machinery was good but the china was chipped, not enough wine glasses, teapot useless, no proper coffee pot & apart from the sharp knives the cutlery was poor. The saucepans were rubbish & the range of oven proof dishes very limited. Too much money spent on TVs but too little on the kitchen. We enjoyed our stay, Sykes side of arrangements was fine but the site was really made to look bigger & better than it actually was.

The parking space is small and I found difficult to manage. The hot tub cover is a two man job to remove and replace. "Beautiful cottage in a beautiful village."
The cottage is very clean and comfortable, just as it looks in the broacher and more, even my friend who has OCD didn't have to wash every pot pan and piece of crookery before using it. The thing I liked best was that after my friends had left and I was on my own I needed some help secondary to a disability, I contacted the owner and they were with me in minutes to help me, for which I was very grateful. The only, if I could call it negative was that the lock was empty for, I think, cleaning which did spoil the beautiful view but this was totally out of the owners control and I imagine does not happen very often. Lovely place with lovely owners, great time had by five forty something nurses having a reunion.

"Garden needs proper fence putting up."
Cudnt get car parked because of neighbours. Power cuts. TV too small in main bedroom. Hot tub not cleaned every day. No signal on aerial sat night. Main bathroom water warm not hot. Not told bout building site opposite.
very sorry about the problems you've raised, however the power cuts and TV signal being down due to the storm effected the whole village and as anybody knows completely out of the homeowners hands as is the temporary repair work to the lock. The hottub is cleaned before every changeover and chlorine levels checked regularly. Slight misunderstanding with the neighbours parking although we resolved the issue easily within minutes of you contacting us. Also we don't feel a fence is practical as it would mean chopping down the 6 foot hawthorn hedge which serves the same purpose and fits better with the natural surroundings. The hot water is set to building regulations and doesn't seem to have been too cold for any of our other guests . Hopefully people will take time to read our other reviews as this is practically the only negative feedback we've received since opening 3 years ago. Property Owner

No towel for the hot tub, so had to use the only bath towel. It would be nice to be told this in the details if you are expected to take your own.
The cottage has no back garden, just a courtyard yet you can take one dog. It might be good to mention this as you have to take your dog out last thing at night and during the night if it needs a pee...this means taking it out along the canal tow path. Some people might not feel safe doing this in the dark.

Gargrave is a delightful village with every amenity. There are good rail connections and a good bus service so we didn’t always need the car for days out. However, it was a wrench some days to even leave the house, because the views were stunning and the activity on the lock, with canal boats passing through was very entertaining. We had a wonderful fortnight here and still didn’t get to visit all the places we had previously earmarked as potentially worth a visit.
