  • "Louper Weir is a tale of 2 halves: On the plus side: The view is breathtking you will never tire of it The apartment is well equiped and spotlessly clean Well located Hot tub great However: Whomever designed the drive needs shooting, unless you drive nothing larger than a mini or are an expert in car manoverability then forget about taking it."

If you can navigate the long stone walled drive without damage then you will not be able to turn your car around at the bottom. Fortunately taxis to Bowness are only £10 each way as there is no way you would attenmpt to move your car after dark. The main property is accessed via an extremely small and rickety spiral staircase, however the bathroom is on the ground floor. So if you need the loo during the night this unpleasant climb has to be endured. If you have any mobility problems at all then forget about using it. The bed; why did they fill the mattress with concrete???? The only comfortable place to sleep are the two recliners.

It was perfect for the type of break we were after - a thoroughly relaxing place with everything we needed. Everything there was of the best quality, in excellent order and very clean. We made use of the hot tub and the kayak and even got to see the Northern Lights! (Sorry, I realise that can't be guaranteed for everyone :). The only thing I would say is don't take one large suitcase - that's what we did and struggled on the spiral staircase! We would recommend this property to everyone.

Loved the view, the cleanliness, comfy bed, fully equipped kitchen, the balcony and the recliner chairs, everything was well thought of. It was a lovely touch to leave a card for us, to thank us for returning back to stay here. Thanks for the mocktails (we added some gin and enjoyed it, thank you). Its nice to have access to the kayak and life vest. Really enjoyed the hot tub and the peaceful location was the best, de-stressing time. We had one toilet roll for the week, which ran out, so maybe two would have helped, very minor issue.

The overall cleaness of the property was really great, the coffee machine with coffee pots were a great touch. This property does have a small sprial staircase which would be difficult for couples who have mobility issues. Getting to the property you have to go down a small narrow lane so anyone with a big car would struggle, so would be wise to reserve into the parking spot. No long mirror in the bathroom or bedroom maybe this is something which could be put in for other people, overall we had the most amazing week the views, the hot tub and the property was perfect. Thank you for a great week we will be back!!

Waking up and going to sleep to beautiful views, so peaceful, you can fill your days with walks and come back and chill in the surroundings. We made full use of the kayak, especially late tea time when the lake is quiet and it seems you have it all to yourself, bliss. The parking outside the Boat House isn’t for the faint hearted, best to reverse in, however the husband had it mastered on the second day ! Fantastic holiday we will be going back.

We love the property and the views from the balcony, the only down side we did have was on the first night the hot tub should of been at optimum temperature at 7pm, the hot tub was still cold at 9pm, the people who stayed next door complained as they had the same problem, luckily when we went out at 9pm to check the hot tub temperature we saw two people who was fixing the neighbours hot tub temperature, these two people fixed our hot tub temperature by 9:30pm. We are very disappointed we could not use the hot tub from 7pm on the first night (as stated on the holiday description) as this holiday was specifically booked for use of the hot tub.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are delighted to read you love the property and the views! Thank you for bringing the issue with the water temperatures to our attention. It is rare for the hot tubs not to be at optimum temperature by 7 pm and when it does happen it is usually due to extreme cold weather. I have called our hot tub maintenance provider to investigate and they have informed me that they have a new operative working for them. They apologise profusely that the hot tub temperature did not meet your expectations on this occasion and assure me it won't happen again. We do hope you visit Louper Weir again in the future. • "The property certainly has the wow factor."

After loosing my dad I wanted to get away on a break were I could just chill and relax and forget about everything and this did just that! The negative bits, we wasn’t given an alarm fob so on entering the property for the first half hour we had the alarm blaring away! The oven hadn’t been cleaned and I had to do this before using it. We couldn’t use the kayak as it was full of water inside the base of it and needing lifting out and draining from inside and this was impossible to lift, way too heavy. On the last day we had to be out for 10am at 8:55 we were all packed and got changed for one last dip in the hot tub! We opened the door to find it being drained already, ridiculous when we are paying so much and basically being rushed out. The cameras yes I get it they are there for security but one facing the hot tub then one on the balcony and next door has a bigger camera all invading your privacy. Needs to be said as not right!

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are delighted to hear you had an enjoyable and relaxing stay overall. I have investigated the various issues you experienced during your stay and I am now in a position to respond. Unfortunately, the alarm fob for the property had been misplaced and like yourself we were not informed by Lakelovers staff. The old fob has been deactivated and a replacement has been obtained. I have been assured the key handling staff will be more vigilant in future. I have spoken to our house keeping team and they are sorry that the oven did not meet your expectations on this occasion. I have since received photographs of a very sparkly clean oven. It is natural for water to collect in the base of kayaks and there have been several heavy storms recently, which will have contributed to the water collection inside the base. The kayak is still useable and the scupper holes allow the water to flow in and out without it sinking. When the weather improves our staff will be able to paddle or pull it to shore to drain it properly. I have spoken to our hot tub maintenance company and they apologise if there was a misunderstanding following your conversation with the technician just prior to your departure. The hot tubs are generally emptied any time from 09:30 am on the day of departure. The larger camera is to monitor the water levels of Lake Windermere and the jetties in case we need to take any action. The smaller cameras are there for health and safety purposes. My wife fell down these on the 2nd day of us being there resulting in very bad bruising on legs, arms and back. you could easily put a normal staircase in there instead. For older people this would be no good at all, also would recommend you take your own pillows as they have duck feathered ones on the bed which were a bit too soft/ flat. • "Nestled on the tranquil shores of Windermere, the Boat House at Louper Weir is an exquisite getaway that truly captures the beauty of the English Lake District."

From the moment you step foot on the property, it's clear you're in for an unforgettable experience. One of the Boat House's biggest charms is its unbeatable location. Positioned on the lake, the property boasts breathtaking views of the tranquil waters and surrounding greenery. It's a serene panorama that one could spend hours soaking in. A particularly enjoyable time is breakfast on the balcony, where the morning sun, teamed with the panoramic vista, creates a serene environment - a splendid way to kickstart the day. An exciting feature of the Boat House is the private pontoon. It provides an excellent platform to use water toys and, notably, a two-person kayak that comes with the house. This is a wonderful addition, allowing guests to explore Windermere in a fun and personal manner. Additionally, the Boat House is equipped with a large downstairs shower and a wet room, along with a washer-dryer. After a refreshing dip in the lake, these amenities were incredibly handy for rinsing and drying our swim gear. The interior of the Boat House is equally impressive. The bedroom is spacious and comfortable, featuring ample storage for clothes and a cosy bed that ensures a good night's sleep. The views from the room make waking up a joy and immediately set a tranquil tone for the day. However, the Boat House isn't without its imperfections. While the living spaces are well-appointed, there's room for improvement when it comes to mirrors. The inclusion of a full-length mirror upstairs, as well as one in the bathroom, would add to the comfort and convenience of the guests. The design of the spiral staircase leaves room for improvement. The current plastic stairs felt a bit out of place in such a lovely setting, and a wider, metal design would indeed be a superior choice. Lastly, a word of caution to those planning to arrive with a large vehicle. The drive down and turn into the drive is particularly narrow. My Nissan Navara suffered a scrape, a bit of a dampener to an otherwise fantastic weekend. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Boat House at Louper Weir provides an experience that is undeniably satisfying and rejuvenating. The blend of luxury and nature creates a truly unique retreat that offers a plethora of activities and a relaxed atmosphere. I would wholeheartedly recommend a visit, and indeed, I am already looking forward to returning – this time considering the larger house next door, also managed by Sykes. In conclusion, the Boat House at Louper Weir, with its stunning views and impressive amenities, is a little slice of heaven in Windermere. If you can navigate the tight driveway and don't mind a lack of mirrors, it offers an unmatched lakeside getaway.

  • "This property is absolutely amazing."

The setting is just surreal and it had everything we could have asked for to make our stay one we will remember forever. The very steep and tight drive down to the property was worse than some reviews state so you need to take it nice and slow. One of us got out of the car to guide the other through the really tight area which is just by the entrance to the boat house. Very tight but fine when guided. It is also much easier to reverse into the space if you can as it is very tight coming out of the driveway. The narrow spiral staircase is again tight and not suitable for all, especially if you need the toilet in the night. We left the bathroom light on so we had some light in the darkness as there are no bedside lights or any lights on the staircase. Something to also stress to anyone considering booking as you are not told in the property description is the CCTV. They should by law let you know as one of the outside cameras is positioned looking directly at the hot tub. So if you are body conscious and do not want a camera watching you when you have very little clothes on then this is not for you. There is no need for the camera to be pointed directly at the hot tub it could be moved to just watch the stairs/entry to the boat house. We did ring beforehand to ask about this and were assured the cameras were not monitored and did not cover the hot tub, but once you are there it is clear the hot tub is overlooked. If we had known we would have cancelled as we were not happy with this at all. There are also 2 other CCTV cameras, one on the balcony and one on the neighbouring balcony which you might find intrusive to your privacy. Other than the CCTV this is a truly amazing place to stay and one where if made aware you can make you own decision whether to book or not dependant on your preferences to being watched.

The view is spectacular overlooking Windermere and was great to sit and watch the sunset form the balcony. The use of the Kayak was a bonus and me and my wife had fun paddling on the lake. There are just a few things wrong with the Boat House which most people have mentioned already on other reviews. The drive down to the Boat House is very steep and parking is tight especially if you have a big car. The stairs from the entrance hall/WC up to the main living area are very narrow steep and for anyone with any impairments they would find it a major hindrance. Also there is no light at the top of the stairs so during the night when you needed the toilet you have to use a torch or leave the light on downstairs. If the stairs were made wider and light fitted this would make the Boat House a first rate location. The other issue was the hot tub has CCTV overlooking the tub which we found very uncomfortable and found it a breach of our privacy. I can understand CCTV needs fitting but it does not need to overlook the hot tub. The entrance hall is very slippery when it is raining outside, a door mat would sort this issue out. We loved our week and would come again I just hope the issues raised not only by me but also other guests are sorted out by the owner.

The view of Lake Windermere from the property far surpassed the photo on the website, amazing..Kayaking on the calm waters was a delight, with the luxury of a hottub to follow. The kitchen was excellently equipped. One constructive suggestion from a person of short stature would be for inclusion of a step stool or small set of steps, as I was unable to reach most of the electric switches.Whilst fully appreciating the reason for the siting of said switches, had my companion not been taller than myself, things would have been difficult. Could have been even better if the slippers that were listed were actually provided. You definitely need these because of the stone floors even though the underfloor heating took the chill off. We rang the help number the following morning and were told to leave the keys in the key safe so some could be delivered but there is no information about the combination for the safe therefore this didn’t happen. At the end of the holiday I discovered we were given the wrong information as the key safe is not for guests to use BUT not having slippers was not as much of a big deal as I’ve made it sound. A couple of other things were more of an issue; - there are two cctv cameras, one pointing at the balcony and the other pointing directly at the hot tub. When we got there we were told that the owner would know if we had accessed the property even a few minutes early therefore we felt uncomfortable that we could be being watched and my partner felt this was a massive invasion of our privacy which had we known may have affected our initial decision to stay there. - on the last night we cooked a lovely steak however the kitchen window was locked and there was no key, there were no instructions for the extractor fan which we assumed would be automatic but it wasn’t. We didn’t like to fiddle with it as it was coming away from the wall. This all meant that the smoke alarms went off and again with no instructions we were unable to silence them other than by removing the batteries. Unfortunately as these were linked to the house alarm this meant that this was also alarming and no longer usable. Even the following morning the alarms started again if the batteries were replaced. There was a really good instruction folder with lots of other information in so not sure why this vital info was missing. Apart from that the venue is absolutely amazing, we loved the use of the kayak and the fantastic view. Those things would make us want to go again but we’d definitely be put off by the cameras.

The property is extremely comfortable, well equipped, spotlessly clean and superbly located. It was such a bonus to come back after a day’s walking to a hot tub and a drink on the balcony overlooking the lake. It has everything you could need for a self catering holiday and the washer/dryer is an added bonus. Wifi would only connect in the downstairs utility and very briefly in the kitchen area which was an inconvenience but did not detract from the holiday for us but if wifi is important to you then this could be an issue. The smart TV worked fine without any connection issues. As mentioned in the listing the spiral staircase would be a problem for anyone with mobility issues. The parking is difficult due to a very steep, narrow slope down to the property and not much room to turn around due to stone walls, gateposts and a raised manhole cover. We would recommend no larger than a medium sized car for this reason but we got used to parking there quickly and found that reversing into the parking space was easier. However the plusses of the property far outweigh any minor niggles and we love it so much we have already booked to go back for a third visit. Thank you for an amazing stay.

The hot tub was used every night and was so welcomed after a day of walking. What I will add though is that the staircase in the property was very steep and narrow and so is the drive way and parking, so this property is not for everyone. The toilet is downstairs, so you do have to tackle the staircase if you want the toilet during the night, which was a tad challenging especially as there is no bedside lamp so we had to use a torch. To avoid getting the car out of that tight space we walked into Bowness along the main road several times, and caught a taxi back in the evenings for around £10. There are plenty of taxis available. There is wifi in the appt but we never actually managed to get it to connect. The washer/dryer was a blessing though. All the cons mentioned above were soon forgotten about though once we were sat on the balcony over looking the lake watching that sun go down. Amazing, a thoroughly enjoyable week.

Recommend a new mattress. Several cameras around which made it feel like we were being watched. I understand they are there for security but one of them overlooks the hot tub. The hot tub was far too hot, no temperature control on the hot tub to even turn it down a few degrees. No idea what the actual temperate of it even was as no indicator anywhere, guessing at least 40 degrees. Also a table and chairs by the hot tub would have been nice. Information given to find the area was fine but the access to the place was confusing. It’s difficult to understand that you have to drive through what looks like someone’s private drive way. Unfortunately we couldn’t get hold of anyone who had been via the company as it was just after 5 when we found the junction so had difficulty working out access. Once figured out , the narrow sone drive and steep hill was a challenge driving a Kia Sportage where we did suffer a scrape getting into the parking area. The place itself was amazing and views beautiful. Facilities perfect. One factor was the stairs, they are Not suitable for anyone with impaired mobility, kids, larger people etc. it was a chore trying to get the bags up. Cameras are intrusive but after a while I just ignored them. Rock hard bed and noisy boat bellow kept us up all night. Narrow tight spiral staircase made access difficult especially when using to loo in the night. The hot tub was far too hot to use and had cctv watching it which made it feel not private at all. The underfloor heating was either too hot or freezing cold. Poor signage as you have to go though another villas gates to access it, its down a very tight steep road, a large car would not be able to turn around at the end. Just to top it off, tried to charge us £370 for getting a small amount of my wife’s hair dye on 1 towel and one pillowcase.

The boat house was clean and well equipped. The downside was the narrow spiral stair case, it was very difficult to get luggage up and down the stairs and it wasn’t practical when needing the loo in the night, the open plan layout meant you had to put one of the big lights on so you could safely get down the stairs to the bathroom. Also now we are heading in to the winter months and the water is becoming quite choppy, we spent most nights awake from the kayak banging against the sides underneath us in the boat dock. Overall we did have a great time and the views are breathtaking taking, based on the staircase and the huge price inflation for the same dates next year, it’s unlikely we would go back.

  • "What a fantastic holiday and place to stay."

The facilities were great, amount of various kitchen gadgets was impressive to cater for all personal needs, ie, quooker tap, ninja, coffee machine of which we loved, especially as supplied with coffee pods, thank you! Loved using the sonar music system which was new to us. The bonus was the double kayak, supplied with life jackets of which we had a fantastic time exploring the lake, added with the jacuzzi to relax in later. The bathroom shower is lovely. The bathroom could be tweaked with a mirror on the wall over basin to make it easy for those who shave. Extra floor mats as water splashes out and over into bathroom for example. The spiral stairs are awkward, I sort of found my own technique to using especially as I suffer with my knee. There is no full length mirror upstairs so I left all my hair bits and hairdryer in the vestibule area and used that mirror for face etc. We only took small suitcases so managed to get up. On arrival we found the initial electric gates but missed the second lot of electric gates to go through. Another couple arriving did the same. Once we figured it out it became second to none. The road to the boat cottages is tight, really a smaller car would have been more apt plus the parking bay having to turn and reverse to get in or out. My goodness what a view over the lake awaits once there. We totally relaxed here after enjoying the many lovely surrounding towns. We picked up various leaflets from the information Centre at the top of High St, near Windermere Station when we arrived. The cottage agency is very near to them where we collected the keys. Windermere & Bowness-on-Windermere have such lovely shops, cafes, pubs and eateries which we really enjoyed. Kendal was a lovely town again with fab shops and food places. We loved visiting the antiques emporiums in surrounding areas sourced from the internet. The towns get very busy with cars and carparks get full very quickly. Best to arrive early to get parked. Sadly, the volume of cars may lead to tail backs especially on change over days of cottages. Everyone we met in shops etc were so friendly and accommodating. Thank you to the staff who located my birthday cards and forwarded them to my home address. We thought the Lake District was amazing and this boat holiday cottage was just the icing on the cake. We would have booked again for same week but unfortunately it has gone up by considerably by £400. Such a shame!

  • "One word- WOW!"

We returned last week from the most wonderful stay at the Boathouse, we only live around 45 minutes away but we felt as though were in another world. The boathouse was such a beautiful place, with views you could only dream of, the sunsets were absolutely stunning especially when enjoyed on the balcony overlooking the lake and of course with a bottle of Prosecco! The sun set right in front of us each night and the views were just something else. In addition, the jetty out to the lake was the perfect addition and the ducks enjoyed this too as they visited us each day. We thoroughly enjoyed taking the kayak (life jackets included) out many times through the electric controller door and of course the jacuzzi which we relaxed in twice a day nearly every day! The boathouse itself featured some fantastic, high quality amenities- the Dyson fan and speaker system were a favourite with my partner as well as the brilliantly equipped kitchen. The boathouse was very difficult to fault although the spiral staircase could be improved to allow less able people to be able to access the upstairs. In addition, the driveway is extremely tight and clearer directions on how to access the drive to the boathouse would be recommend. Overall, our stay was just perfect and we loved every minute- a picture perfect, romantic place- we can’t wait to return one day. 7 nights just wasn’t long enough. Thank you so much for a most amazing stay!

Lovely location and everything supplied in the property was of high standard. One thing we would say is that we have noted that your prices for 2022 have increased by about 35% for same time next year and this would put us off booking again for this time. Once travel does start to resume people will start taking foreign holidays again however if the prices were similar to what we paid for this year then we would still consider a UK rental but the price has to be reasonable.

The views were spectacular, everything about the accommodation was perfect and we can't wait to come back! The kitchen was really well equipped and had everything that we needed and more. The king sized bed was super comfy, and the two chairs by the balcony doors had the most amazing views. We got great use out of the kayak; it was such a good way to explore the lake. We also really enjoyed standing on the jetty and watching the birds and ducks. The Boat House as a whole felt very luxurious and we feel like we've been spoilt rotten for the week...I think that might have something to do with going in the hot tub every day and watching the beautiful sunsets from the balcony.

We had an amazing time and have already booked to stay again. The cleanliness is exceptional and we could look at the view all day long and never get bored - a wonderful place to have breakfast on the balcony. The only suggestions I could think of would be to improve the staircase - as the spiral staircase that is currently in place is very narrow and it's difficult to get luggage up and down. This would not be suitable for everyone. Also clearer instructions when arriving to say that you need to go through LakeView property gates to get to the boathouse as we drove all the way down to Lakeside then had to reverse back up. It says drive through both sets of gates but does not make it clear which ones.

Our stay would have been enhanced by a reasonably sized mirror in the bathroom, a shaving point to charge shavers or electric toothbrushes, a mosquito screen for the doors facing the lake, and access to the jetty. However all that said, I would recommend it and would happily stay there again.

Thank you for our feedback and for your suggestions, we have taken this on board and will supply the items you have mentioned for future guests. There is always a key to the wet dock and jetty in the property if you had advised you could not locate this we would have supplied a apre key. Excellent view and location. BUT we recommend that you add a warning notice to any adverts you place for this property: the spiral stair access between the ground and first floors is ridiculously narrow and difficult to manoeuvre particularly with luggage etc. This property is NOT suitable for anyone with any mobility problems and should be listed as such. The furnishings were high end and everything was done to a great standard. The kayak in the downstairs dock was another fantastic touch. The electric dock door and access to your own private jetty were also great touches. A truly special boathouse. I have two points of feedback that the owner may want to look address: - The spiral staircase is very small, it is difficult to take anything of size (think suitcase or shopping) without a difficult squeeze. This may make the property not suitable for elderly people. Compared with the high quality designed decor the staircase also looks a bit odd - The SONOS sound system installed in the ceiling is connected to the main house, so if the renter in the main house is not familiar or ignorant to how SONOS works you will find them playing music in your property, which can get pretty annoying, especially when they are Justin Beiber fans and you want to sleep

Our only suggestions would be to let people know that they need to go through the two wooden gates. Could there be a sign post ? We ended up going down the wrong slope and had to reverse back up it ! There was no mention of restricted access in climbing the spiral staircase to gain access to the main living/sleeping area, again not an issue for us but other guests would struggle with any mobility issues. There was no welcome pack to explain how things worked within the property and for anyone arriving late and in the dark I think they would struggle to locate the property.
