  • "The house was very central in a quiet street overlooking Ribble to front."

Good parking but hardly used the car as shops, station and walks on doorstep. Hosts were helpful and friendly.

  • "A lovely comfortable cottage in the heart of the village and close to all amenities."

We had an enjoyable time exploring Settle it’s many independent well stocked shops and surrounding villages. The local butchers supplied us with our delicious evening meals and there was plenty of mulled wine in the local pubs to ward away the winter chill! Mark was very welcoming and the cottage has plenty of information leaflets for places to visit if you’re at a loose end. We most certainly will be back!

  • "This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful part of the country."

The owners Mark and Debbie met us on arrival, gave us a quick tour, answered all our questions about the area and they even left us milk in the fridge for a cuppa which was lovely of them. The cottage was so lovely and spacious it had everything you could think of to make it home from home. We will definitely be back in the future.

Right next to the river offering a lovely view the property is cosy yet spacious. The owners are hands on and any queries can be dealt with immediately. The owner even went so far as to ask which milk we preferred so he could leave us tea and coffee and milk to have a cuppa on arrival. An excellent property. 5*.

The location was terrific overlooking the river. The owner Mark was so welcoming. He popped round on our first evening to ensure that all was well and check if we needed anything and advised us that we could contact him if there was any problem, which of course there wasn't.

  • "The owner keeps the house in immaculate condition."

It was warm and cosy when we arrived and there was milk and tea/coffee ready for us to use. The key collection details were quick and easy and the owner popped round the first evening to make sure everything was ok and to check we didnt need anything. We had the large front bedroom with a super king sized bed, the duvet was snuggly and cosy. We went to sleep every night to the sound of the River Ribble burbling (although on one day it was positively raging!) along in its bed. My husband walked along it for a fair way. There was so much to do in and around Settle, which is a very busy market town. I recommend the Golden Lion for good food and great beer! Ruchee offers great Indian and Bangladeshi food to eat in and take out. The Fishermans Fish and Chips are wonderful. Do visit the Naked man Cafe for great coffee and friendly staff, the antique shop has some gorgeous things in it, and the tiny second hand book shop hidden down an alleyway is fantastic and a great place to stock up on holiday reading! There is also the Watershed Mill and cafe where you can buy good quality walking and wet weather gear along with loads of other things, a lot at reduced prices. The cafe there offers good food at good prices too,. Do visit the Courtyard Cheese Shop at the Cheese Barn about 5 mins drive away along the A59 - fantastic cheeses to sample and buy and I highly recommend their little cafe especially the cheese taster plate and the coffee and walnut cake!

About the location

Malham 6 miles; Skipton 17 miles; Kendal 25 miles.

The bustling market town of Settle lies at the south west rim of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, nestled beside the largest outcrop of limestone in Britain - a region of scars, cliffs, caves and potholes - amongst some of the most picturesque scenery in North Yorkshire. Tuesday is market day in Settle, when the square is filled with stalls offering a wide variety of crafts and goods. The market place is surrounded by local businesses, the centre being dominated by The Shambles, an historic three storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall. There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool. The Victoria Hall has entertainment and other activities such as folk nights throughout the year. The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway crosses some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. Natural attractions such as Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are within easy reach, as are the nearby Dales towns of Skipton and Malham. Settle is in the midst of excellent walking country and is a good base for touring the Dales, the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.
