  • "My wife and me enjoyed our week's stay here in mid August."

It is obviously an old property, so pleasant in appearance both inside and out. We did not have the pleasure of meeting the owner, but she sounded very welcoming in the two telephone conversations we had with her. It is well situated, 9 steps door to door (I paced it! ) from a wonderfully traditional pub, the Black Horse. This served delicious beer and scrumptious food, and had a friendly and engaging landlord. It was a novelty to stay in such a quaint cottage. Yet is was well equipped with every modern appliance you are likely to need. It had a cosy and comfortable appeal about it. The. bed was spot on. The only slight inconvenience was the absence of parking facilities, but roadside parking was found fairly easily and not too far distant. The cottage is located in the pleasant village of Giggleswick, with the neighbouring market town of Settle only a 10 minute walk away. Be sure to ask the locals for the quickest route, down through the village and across the footbridge. There are pleasant riverside paths to explore, with plentiful seats to break your journey. We always choose to mothball our car for the week. But we did make use of our free O.A.P. bus passes to make 2 day trips out, to Skipton and the beautiful village of Ingleton. So we had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable week all round. I feel sure that most people would share our sentiments. A well recommended venue for a country holiday.

The cottage is fully equipped with good quality utensils, even the art work on the walls have been tastefully thought of. The owners have certainly thought of everything you would need. The pub was busy which served lovely food with a warm friendly welcome, even though the pub was busy we didn't hear any noise. (would recommend booking if you want to eat). A 10 minute walk into Settle, Booths supermarket nearby, lots of local walks and for a more relaxing day take the train from Settle to Carlisle for a scenic train ride. would definitely recommend this cottage.

Cosy and comfortable with a very well stocked kitchen. The milk and cookies on arrival were very welcome. The cottage is the perfect base for walking and Settle is a short picturesque stroll away. We made use of the tourist information centre to go on beautiful local walks and the Settle to Carlisle railway trip is not to be missed! The Black Horse pub is directly opposite but very quiet and does lovely food. The cottage owner couldn’t have been more helpful when I made enquiries. We will come back.

Could have been tricky to dry wet clothes without putting on the heating. Towels were a bit of a problem day to day. Very good base from which to explore very locally and into the Dales - excellent supermarket within walking distance and friendly pub with extremely good food next door.

Thankyou Colin for your feed back , putting the heating on to dry wet clothes or to dry towels shouldn’t have been a problem , the thermostat is at the bottom of the stairs for use whenever it is needed , The bathroom radiator runs off the central heating and would have dried the towels quickly , admittedly the week you where there the weather was exceptionally hot but the other radiators have thermostats on to turn off . Glad you enjoyed the Dales and the pub nextdoor Ann. Property Owner

Best equipped kitchen I have ever seen! You don't need to take anything. Could use a shoe rack as with walking boots, trainers and sandals x3 the floor inside the door was littered with shoes. Didn't want to take them upstairs when wet or dirty.

Thankyou Sue and family for the lovely feedback and looking after our cottage , I understand that shoes are a problem especially when they are wet and muddy , will think about a shoe rack , but don’t want to create a trip hazard . It’s a long way to A & E from Giggleswick . Best wishes to you all Ann x Property Owner

Biggest drawback is lack of dedicated parking, but always found somewhere on-street not too far away. Generally well equipped. Only significant lack (for keen cooks) is no scales to weigh ingredients. Location is excellent next door to an inn with good food, and surprisingly quiet. Highly recommended.

Thankyou Olesya for your lovely feedback , so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in the cottage , and Thankyou for looking after it and leaving it immaculate , I have taken on board your request for kitchen scales and put some in . Best wishes Ann Property Owner

The nearby children’s park is a great space for little ones and there is a well stocked supermarket in Settle which was reached 10 minutes on foot or 3 minutes in the car. The walk into settle by the river was beautiful. We highly recommend the chip shop opposite the co op petrol station in settle. Ingleton waterfalls was spectacular. Everything you need. Most relaxing village and cottage we have ever stayed at. Could only hear the toned down church bells and the sound of chirping birds. Pub next door has been closed down for a while so don’t know how it would affect the noise. Pub up the road called Harts Head has a lovely relaxing beer garden, it’s a sun trap, overlooking Giggleswick School and it’s chapel Dome. Been on all the fells and hills lovely views. Walked over to Malham and back. Caught train from Settle to Appleby lovely scenic journey about 50 minutes, across the viaduct as well. About 10 minutes walk to a busier Settle. About the location

GIGGLESWICK

Settle 0.8 mile; Malham 7.3 miles; Skipton 16.2 miles.

This delightful Ribblesdale village lies below a limestone scar (part of the Craven fault) and just across the river from the bustling market town of Settle. It’s an incredibly pretty place with sturdy houses and cottages, many dating back to the 17th century as the ‘date stones’ over their doorways will confirm. Today the village is still centred around the beautiful St Alkelda’s church, which dates back to the 12th century and the well-known landmark of the domed chapel at the famous Giggleswick School, which dominates the village skyline. Giggleswick itself has two pubs, whilst the wide ranging amenities of the nearby market town of Settle are within easy walking distance. Further afield is the town of Ingleton with its splendid waterfall walk and of course (for the serious walker) the Three Peaks are nearby.
