  • "We have just returned from rushton barn , what a cosy , beautifully furnished barn conversion it is."

Hazel & Charlie are a lovely couple who want you to have the best holiday. The welcome treats & gifts were delicious & much appreciated. The Alpacas were a highlight of our stay they came to say hello every morning. The views & wildlife were lovely to sit & watch , and the barn had everything we needed , with all the essentials there for you to use to stay in on a cold night with the log burner on. We would highly recommend rushton barn & we are looking to return

We were greeted by the property owners who made us feel really welcome. The property was spotless and presented to us in pristine condition. I’d said in advance that we would be celebrating my wife’s birthday during our stay & the owners had put up “happy birthday” banners in advance of our arrival, plus a complimentary bottle of wine, box of chocolates & nice teas & coffees to make us feel welcome. Rushton barn is warm & cosy with comfortable furniture and a nice bed. The bathroom is good with a big walk-in shower. In the lounge there is a big TV with NETFLIX, a log burning stove and picture windows with great views. Outside the property there is a secure (dog proof) private garden. In the adjacent field are 3 Alpacas

.. Good, clean and very pretty with lovely hosts. Bad, the description on the sykes site is misleading as this is not a barn conversion with accomodation on one level it's a flat with another flat above you. I would never EVER book a holiday in a flat! The host house is called one name the holiday flat we had is called another name and the upstairs flat is called something else, why, well I believe it is to ensure you are not aware of the above flat when looking. Kept awake one night as above occupant violently ill.. just what you want ! The plumbing sounds from above are intrusive, That said, the area is lovely, the alpacas are sweet. The log burner doesn't realy work as there is no grate, been lighting wood and coal fires for 30 years and this was neither use nor ornament.

We’re truly sorry you were disappointed with Rushton Barn We can ensure you it’s a barn conversion dating back to 1750 and is not a flat As for the names this is for booking purposes and states it’s ground floor As the Log Burner it’s not DUAL FUEL they don’t come with a grate Had you told us you were struggling we would have shown you how to use it although there is clear instructions The reviews show our customers are very happy and it makes us sad that this was not the case for you Property Owner

Spotlessly clean, welcoming and well equipped. Hazel and Charlie are amazing hosts and thoughtful to the point of remembering we are vegan. Even the dog was considered with a filled and ready water bowl, dog treats and poo bags. The location is amazing, great views and totally relaxing. The Craven Arms local pub is dog friendly and less than a 5 minute walk, has a good food menu and a well stocked bar. The cottage is ideally located for walking the dales or day trips out to the lakes and further afield, but there is so much to do close by. Yorkshire has become our favourite place to holiday and Rushton Barn ticks ALL the boxes we look for in a cottage. Looking forward to going back next year.

  • "My wife and I have stayed at a number of cottages over the years, all of which have been of a good standard."

However, Rushton Barn stands out for a number of reasons. First and foremost is the attention to detail provided by the hosts; they go to great depths to ensure everything is just right, from text messages leading up to arrival, greeting on arrival, a bottle of wine, milk, and bowl of water for the dog to refresh. The barn is just outside Giggleswick which is a lovely, quiet, small village close to the market town of Settle. Far enough away to feel relaxed from the hustle and bustle of modern life but close enough for supplies. The barn conversion has been done to a high standard, with a hedge and gate separating the cottage from the main house. Laid to grass it is perfect for those staying with a dog. The inside is small but more than ample for a couple with a good-sized bathroom. The neighbours can be quite inquisitive, don't be surprised if they come up to the window to see what you are doing. Again the hosts provide a carton of appropriate food to feed the Alpacas and the board has details of their names. Overall, we had a wonderful week exploring the Dales and Lakes; Rushton Barn was a fantastic base to come home. The Craven Arms, just a few hundred yards down the road, proved an excellent facility for liquid refreshments, excellent food, and dog friendly in the bar area. We would highly recommend this property. Paul & Ali

Hower, the short version: We had an amazing holiday at Rushton Barn. We were greeted with typical Northern hospitality from our wonderful hosts Hazel & Charlie. The cottage is spotlessly clean, well equipped, welcoming and we instantly felt at home, as did our dog who also considered with treats, bowls poo bags as well as being made a fuss of. Though never intrusive, Hazel and Charlie were always available and nothing was too much trouble. We were kept well supplied with food for our Alpaca neighours, which was a real treat when they would greet us at the window and over the garden wall. We have stayed at self catering cottages for many years; for us, this was by far our best holiday, Rushton barn has become our favourite place which is why for the first time ever we have re-booked for next summer. Two minute walk to a great friendly pub that does good food (make sure you book) at the Craven Arms. If you got into Settle The Wonky Cafe is well worth a visit. Great breakfasts, cakes and pies.

We love this part of the world having visited for a couple of days last year so hence choice of Rushton Barn . We were so pleased with our choice as the accommodation was perfect for 2 of us and met my extremely high requirements for cleanliness. I planned to cook a lot as still nervous to eat out and the kitchen had all I needed to make meals . Hazel and Charles are first class hosts and the little things they have thought about in the property make a lot of difference . While we were away it was my husband’s birthday and I had mentioned to Hazel on booking as wanted suggestion on any local places to eat out that day. Hazel had obviously made a note of this and produced a gift for his birthday - that is what I call going the extra mile The icing on the cake for me was the alpaca and sheep in the neighbouring field - such fun animals with great personalities - it’s not every where you can stay and have an alpaca looking in lounge window Thanks Hazel and Charles for letting us share part of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales for the week

Hazel also gave us fresh eggs from her chickens which was just lovely and half way through the week popped round with fresh sausages from the local butchers and a couple of vanilla slices too.We were overwhelmed by their kindness and hospitality. The local pub, the Craven arms , which is just over the road. Very friendly people, lovely food and again all dog friendly which ,made our holiday so relaxing. We visited settle which is in walking distance and lovely walks down the river side. Austwick has a beautiful stream and we enjoyed a walk to Clapham from there. Visited Elaines tea rooms in Fazier which is just lovely. Splendid sandwiches and cakes. Last day we walked from Langcliffe up to Little stainforth where we called in at the Knights table. Gorgeous views for miles and had a wonderful lunch there before walking back through Stainforth and visited the Lime works.Lots of interesting history. So much more we would like to see. We will definitely be re visiting this area next year and will be staying with Hazel & Charlie again at Rushton barn.

Hazel and Charlie were fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome. The barn is gorgeous and was spotlessly clean when we arrived. It's in a fabulous location with a good pub a few minutes walk away. All the pubs and shops in the area are very well organised with systems that make you feel safe. Rushton Barn is the perfect place to stay with everything going on at the moment (but we would go back anytime). It's close to so many attractions and natural wonders too. You can't go wrong staying here and we loved it.

  • "The cottage was very well appointed with high spec fittings and furniture."

It was very comfortable and equipped with everything needed for self-catering. particularly impressive was the thought that went into the welcome, including a small container of milk - easily overlooked when packing - flowers, some complimentary cakes and a bottle of wine. Just the thing after a long tiring journey. Our hosts had asked us to phone when about 10 minutes drive away as the property has an electric gate and the process worked very smoothly. We were met, introduced to the property, had a few things explained as to what the facilities were and how they worked. Parking is off road behind the electric gate. You get a fob for the gate along with the keys to the property. Come and go as you will. Our hosts kept in touch by text if there was something important but otherwise we were left to ourselves. The resident alpacas kept us amused, especially when peering in through the window first thing in the morning. Disconcerting at first! Despite seeming to be "out in the wild", the local pub was well within staggering distance and provided excellent food at very reasonable prices. The local beer is well worth sampling. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cottage and our hosts Hazel and Charlie to anyone looking for a good taste of Yorkshire. Oh, and the dog enjoyed her stay as well - lots of new smells.

There was a public house only 5minutes walk up the road which did lovely food. The owners where very friendly and helpful, the bottle of wine and homemade cake when we arrived was a welcome touch. Very well equipped and very comfortable cottage. Helpful owners next door and lovely four-legged (alpacas) neighbours! Pub less than 800m away serving excellent food and Settle an easy 1m walk with good cafes, market and shop plus easy access to the Dales made it a perfect spot. The only improvement would be thermostat or heating control within the cottage. Although it was possible to turn each radiator up/down, for a full change of time or to turn everything off when out all day we had to ask the owners. That said they could not have been more helpful or accommodating. We could hear the occupants upstairs so carpet or rugs up there amy help.
