  • "A lovely cottage - well equipped and cozy a great base for exploring the surrounding area."

Glenridding is a quiet village - walks from the door so no need to use the car. A couple of housekeeping issues , but these were resolved quickly once reported. We ate at the Travellers Call one evening after reading other reviews but were a little disappointed.

  • "What a fantastic place to stay."

The cottage has plenty of character and is lovely and cosy, especially with the log burner lit. The well equipped kitchen is great for making a meal and having off road parking is very convenient too. The location is ideal for anyone wanting to walk up Helvelyn or any other Fells near by, there are also plenty of other walks around Ullswater, Aira Force, Patterdale and Grisedale if you don't like big hills. On the down side, Kirkstone pass was closed, which meant a long diversion to go south, there was no pen to write in the visitors book but I was told that has been sorted. Finally, Ann was wonderful, I was informed about an issue with one ring not working on the hob but it was sorted before I arrived. There was also an issue with me having to leave in a hurry but Ann delt with that with no fuss whatsoever. I will definitely be looking to visit again.

  • "Our stay at Millcroft Cottage was very enjoyable."

The location is excellent and the provision of off street parking is a great advantage. Our only disappointment was with the exterior appearance, Weeds growing at the front left Millcroft Cottage looking uncared for. Also at the rear, the entrance door area was grubby looking and we felt compelled to get the brush out and tidy things up a bit to help avoid treading dirt into the kitchen. This may sound picky but we just thought this lovely cottage deserved a little more love!

  • "Just be aware kirkstone pass is closed until sept 2023 - can just make some journeys a little longer, not a problem but good to know."

Cottage is very warm and cosy, no tumble driver as advertised though and you need to bring your own logs/kindling for the fire, not that you’d need to use it as it’s warm enough. Well equipped - a couple of more toilet rolls would have been good as we ran out. Definitely recommend.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay, and that you found the cottage cosy. We hope to welcome you back. Property Owner

Did you know the main road south of Glenridding was closed for road works? Mattress in main bedroom needs to be replaced

Thank you for your feedback, I can now confirm a new mattress have been delivered to replace the old one Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay in the cottage, everything was there that we needed, very well equipped kitchen, comfortable living room and bedrooms and a very good shower/bath."

We did all of our walks from the door including Helvellyn, so no need for the car at all, though the parking space is very useful as there isn't much on the roadside. The dustmen didn't leave any of the blue bags as was suggested, or not that we could find anyway but most things go in the recycle area just across the road behind the health centre. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

  • "We had a fantastic time at Millcroft Cottage and definitely plan on going back."

The location was superb and everything exactly as described, and as per the pictures. Felt right at home and comfortable the moment we walked in through the door. The facilities were all fine. Nice hearing owls at night and seeing bats. You may even hear and see a Eurofighter or two flying down the valley during the day. Zero complaints here!

  • "The cottage is lovely and ideally located."

You’re just a short walk from Ullswater and perfectly located for hiking the Helvellyn loop. My only issue with the cottage was that hot water wasn’t available on a few occasions due to the boiler going on lockout. The first day of the stay, it failed and the owners sorted it for the next day. It then failed again on the 2nd to last day, which was very disappointing as we’d had a day on the lake, paddle boarding and could do to get a hot shower. We ended up cutting the holiday short to head home. I did eventually find out how to reset the boiler online but, we’d already packed up the car by the time hot water was available. Hopefully the owners can sort the boiler issues for the next occupants.

  • "For the price we paid for the property we would have expected it to be clean."

The kitchen was grubby with dirty doors, radiators and floors with the corner under kitchen units covered in spiderwebs also in the corner of the roof. It is quite clear this is not deep cleaned and not even sure some of the surfaces. Only one bath towel for the whole week. Garden also needed some tlc a lot of weeds front and back. It stated we had parking but there were cars where we should have been there all week. Very disappointing.

  • "Enjoyed our week's stay here - very well located cottage within a short walk of the Traveller's Rest."

Cosy and comfortable - think it would be a squeeze for 4 adults but good for 2 or a family. Enjoyed the wood burner and a well equipped kitchen. Some minor repairs on door locks needed and the extractor fan in the bathroom only works intermittently. You also need to be sure to shut the fridge door firmly.

  • "This is a really lovely cottage in a fantastic location."

There is parking for one car, and our car fitted fine. The kitchen is well equipped (although note there is no dishwasher or dryer). The washing machine was useful, and there is an under counter fridge, and a freezer. There are a couple of small shops in Glenridding and we used the supermarkets in Penrith. No tea, coffee milk etc is provided so make sure you bring with you everything you'll need (oil, salt, any cooking stuff). The shower is fantastic and the bathroom is great, it could do with a few shelves. The bed was a bit soft for my personal taste. The cottage was really cosy and comfy. The location is incredible, you can walk to Hellvelyn from the door, and there are many other fells in the area that are easy to reach without moving your car. We had a great stay and would love to stay again.

  • "Two of us spent a fantastic week at the cottage, was exactly what we were looking for."

Very cosy, private and excellent location in Glenridding. Despite being end of terrace on a three row terrace of stone cottages, it felt extremely private. Parking bay at the back was convenient, as was the private yard. Being 100 yards from the quaint Travelers Rest was great, there were also several small stores within 5 mins walking distance for food/supplies etc. Kitchen was ideal and well equipped. Living room was cosy, we went through a lot of wood in front of the stove! Bathroom/shower was great. Whole property, with the oil-fired heating I believe, was very warm. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The house is great and well equipped but beware if you’re a large or extra large as there isn’t enough room to use the lavatory unfortunately …

  • "Millcroft is a great base in which to explore the lakes."

It is a lovely little cottage with most amenities that you need. There was no tumble dryer despite being one listed, however apart from that all was as expected. As others have mentioned a net curtain would be helpful, to stop the numerous passers by having a nosy! All in all it is a cosy cottage and we enjoyed our stay. The beds are comfy, however the main double is quite a soft mattress so beware if you have a bad back like me!

3 thoughts to further improve quality of stay. You mention dishwasher in your detailed instructions to us. Either install a dishwasher or amend your instructions. A blind at the front window would greatly enhance privacy. Small, light folding garden chairs would have been appreciated. Please take these three thoughts as genuine feedback. Simply looking to make the cottage even better. Many thanks for a great stay.
