  • "Quaint property, in lovely location."

Cottage had everything that we required and we really enjoyed the wood burning stove.

  • "The cottage is lovely."

Perhaps only suitable for a couple and children rather than 4 adults. And certainly not for the infirm. But our 9 year old loved pretending she was Heidi climbing upstairs. The setting is stunning. We heard and then saw two woodpeckers from the cottage. We saw red squirrels and heard a cuckoo. The track up to the cottage is fine if you drive slowly. The kitchen is very well equipped. We heartily recommend this holiday home.

  • "The remoteness of this lovely cottage was exactly what we were looking for."

We are familiar with the area so the access track wasn't a surprise, and easily managed with care. The cottage was warm, comfortable and has been sensitively modernised, and the location perfect for a quiet walking holiday.

  • "Everything we'd hoped for: quality and equipment in the cottage, plus a multitude of red squirrels in the garden."

Nicely 'off the beaten track', so nice and quiet - with good walks leading straight off from the front door. Thoroughly excellent! [Not for those not confident with the approach via unmade track (easily passed in a normal saloon car) or those seeking a quick walk to the pub!]

  • "We met the lovely owner when he popped over with a cot for the next Holidayer & a replacement remote."

Surprised to find sugar but not salt & pepper. Fridge is also quite noisy

  • "The level of equipment in the cottage was way above expectation, especially on the culinary side."

The cottage was a site that I already knew from the depths of history, and despite any tendency to "rose tinted spectacles" it was as beautiful as I had always remembered: the views of the lake, of the fells, and of the woods, the sounds of the birds, the squirrels (RED), and of the beck down below, the quiet seclusion from the roads, and a bonus - the friendly response of all the neighbours full and part-time. The only downer was an unfriendly "DO NOT TOUCH" on the consumer unit for the heaters: this in spite of me being under the impression that heating was part of the deal, and there being instructions in the "Cottage Manual" for operating it. It is small but perfectly formed !

  • "Having to walk to and from cottage as we didn't have a 4x4 which is a must to get there did have an effect on what we took and what time we had to come back as we walked in the pitch black otherwise, I haven't had any resolution from either yourselfs or owners so had no choice to stay as we had no refund, wasn't happy leaving my car at bottom of track every night either, shower was temeperamemtal and those stairs!"

Or should I say ladder , this property needs re- describing as the pictures and description is very misleading, also the neighbours who obviously own not rent clearly aren't happy having strangers traipsing through regularly, quite unfriendly.

Many thanks for your feedback, we have fed your comments back to the owner in order to maintain our property standards, including access to the property. Your views are as valued as your initial booking so that we can keep providing the best UK holiday experience. Property Owner

  • "The track is unsuitable for the average car, it is very rough and long."

My Toyota Yaris sustained damage to the door sill which will cost £280 to repair, this despite driving up it at walking pace. The stairs are steep but the owner has recently fitted a welcome hand rail. The kitchen area is small but has modern appliances. We found that the bunk bed is rather small for adults. The setting of the cottage is spectacular being surrounded by big hills. Apart for the track we enjoyed our stay. G Evans

  • "Lovely place to stay, Off the beaten track."

Cosy and comfortable. TV/DVD player, radio. Poor mobile signal in cottage. Can get 3G/4G on front window ledge. If important to you. Lighting a bit dim if you're a reader, could be improved by some higher wattage LED bulbs! Rough track all way from road to cottage, 4x4 ideal, smaller cars might struggle especially in snowy weather. Cottage cold to start as storage heaters all switched off and took 24hrs plus to warm really. Multi fuel fire, worth mentioning so clients can go prepared with wood or coal, v warming once going. Lovely place to stop, would be lovely in Spring/Summer months as able to sit out and enjoy nature more.

About the location

POOLEY BRIDGE

Penrith 6 miles.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
