  • "Everything we needed for our stay was provided, warmth and comfort after each day's walking."

  • "The only drawback in our opinion was the extremely tight turning into and out of the property on a single track road."

Else a lovely cottage and location.

  • "Thought decor needed some updating."

The double bed mattress was very uncomfortable and lumpy. More information about local area, maps, walks, places to eat would be useful. Some Board games and books you often find in holiday cottages too

  • "We found the cottage pleasant and largely as expected, however agree with previous comments that there is so much potential ie some updating and maintenance would be very welcome (starting with the electric shower which alternates between scalding hot and freezing cold when used on the 'high' setting and the bedroom door to the twin room which has a broken latch and needs to be propped shut with a bag."

) The kitchen towels supplied in place of proper oven gloves are also inadequate. Although not within control of the cottage, the building works on the affordable housing development opposite were also quite noisy during our stay, although I realise this will depend on the construction phase at the time.

Thank you for your feedback Mrs Mcauliffe. We appreciate the time taken to send your observations which we have now discussed with the owner. They have taken on board all the points you have raised. As they weren't aware of any problems during your stay unfortunately they couldn't help/resolve any issues. The building work which is located further down the road from the cottage hasn't effected any other guests and we can only apologise if you experienced any noise during your stay. Thank you once again for your feedback and we do hope to see you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Original booking was cancelled about 6 weeks after paying a deposit."

This should not be allowed. Then had to book this cottage which we had previously stayed in as it was the only one available in our price range for the dates we had available. Nothing was offered in return for the disappointment or the hassle we received.

  • "A nice old cottage, end terrace, very well located 1/2 mile from Grasmere town centre."

Clean and tidy. The only disappointment is the kitchen which is small and has no work surfaces, just a large dresser and small table which comfortably fits two, four at a squeeze. (There's room to extend or at least replace with a fitted kitchen - so much potential!). The other rooms are a good size, including the bedrooms, lounge and an especially large bathroom. The outside table is at the end of the parking area, but this was ok.

Thank you for your feedback Ms Owen. We thank you for your observations. The property is a small traditional Lakeland cottage and the owner has taken onboard your comments. Improvements are due to be made with new windows to be fitted at the back end of the year. Thank you once again for your feedback Property Owner

  • "There were only two of us and we used this cottage as a place to sleep, joining other family members at another property for meals and socialising."

Although there were four beds I would not like to have been there with any more people, the kitchen is very small and the garden more of a car park. Having said that it was clean and very well presented, we will not however be returning.

We thank you for your observations Mrs Harrison. We hope you had a lovely time with your family. Thank you once again for your feedback Property Owner

  • "Charming and unpretentious cottage, photos don't do it justice."

Nothing flash, just really nice. Exceptional location, away from the crowds of Grasmere, but an easy walk to the Co-op. Farm up the road sells fresh hen and duck eggs. Lots of fells right on the doorstep, many more just a short drive away.

Thank you for your feedback Mrs Jaques. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at Roundhill Cottage and made the most of the lovely fell walks from the cottage. Thank you once again for your kind comments Property Owner

"This pretty retreat is found on the country lane leading from Grasmere village to Easedale Tarn, watched over by Helm Crag's famous 'Lion & Lamb' and enjoying fabulous views in every direction.

A homely, traditional atmosphere awaits as you enter to the rear of the cottage into the well-equipped traditional kitchen/dining room with Westmorland slate floor and views over the garden to the Grasmere Valley.

Cosy lounge with an electric stove set in Lakeland slate fireplace, and views towards Helm Crag and the surrounding fells.

Upstairs to the double bedroom and twin bedroom, with fell and woodland views.

Large house bathroom with shower over bath.

Rear parking for two cars and is also enclosed.

There is a bench on the patio which looks over the Grasmere Valley and a lockable outhouse ideal to store bikes or kayaks.

Grasmere is a historic village at the very heart of the Lakes, west of Ambleside and north of Coniston and Hawkshead.

The village centre has a number of useful shops, market, tea rooms and a select few very good restaurants - including the Jumble Room which has been listed in the BBC Good Food Guide.

The famous poet William Wordsworth lived in Grasmere while writing some of his most famous poetry.

His former home can be visited at Dove Cottage & the Wordsworth Museum, and his family grave is one of the most visited literary shrines in the world.

Although hugely popular with tourists and walkers, Grasmere remains a relaxed village location with a real air of history.

In the village you can explore the legacy of artists who've been inspired by the landscapes around the village - of particular note is the Heaton Cooper Studio.

A holiday cottage in Grasmere provides easy access to no end of fabulous Lake District walks.

Try the route up to Easedale Tarn in the fells above the village, visit the shores of nearby Rydal Water, or take on Fairfield, Silver How or Loughrigg to name but a few!

About the location

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
