  • "Our 2nd time here and we have booked again for next year."

Everything is perfect to help make a wonderful Grasmere holiday. Walks from the door, and very cosy and comfortable for when we get back from a day on the fells. Many thanks, already looking forward to next year.

We enjoyed that it was 'upside down' and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was a great location from which to explore the Lakes - but with lots of things to do and lots of great walks right on the doorstep too. We even enjoyed the rain (every day!!).

Spotlessly clean & comfortable. Though was disappointed with welcome gift which comprised of, 2 dishwasher tabs, dish cloth & scourer. A few instant coffee & Tbag sachets & sachets of UHT milk. Not even fresh milk in fridge. No bathrobes either & cold upon arrival and NO starter pack for fire, soon warmed up though, but really, no starter pack in winter! And lacking a coffee maker, nespresso (other makes are available!)

Thank you for your feedback and we’re glad you found the cottage to be clean and comfortable. Regarding the lack of “extras” , we live a considerable distance from our cottage which is why it is let through an agent. The starter pack of hygiene products and welcome pack of biscuits, tea and coffee sachets are what is available through the agent. They do not offer an alternative and we do not live close enough to provide a more bespoke service. For people who like ‘proper’ coffee, a cafetière is provided. Property Owner

On a very minor point, the pop up plug in the bath didn’t stay down (so couldn’t use the bath, but the shower was fab) so we reported it to Lake Lovers who were going to fix it. Also, the WiFi dropped out Wednesday morning, I rebooted the router a couple of times and it was then fine (I think this was a BT issue, not the router’s).

The lights outside especially. The front door lock too. The kitchen was well laid out with all appliances there now which was good. There were a some points to look at though. Just things so you know. The Upstairs toilet was refilling itself a lot without being used. The Thermostat in the downstairs shower was difficult to move, and impossible to get to run very cold. Finally, when it rained, there was a constant Gurgling nice that came from the shower plug hole. That was quite annoying. An excellent stay for us again at Tilly's though, we will be back in the next couple of years. Cheers

Thank you for your kind comments about the refurbishment of Tilly’s. It’s also always welcome to hear of issues that may need attention as our own visits are infrequent. • "A nice, comfortable property."

Let down by the little things that irk, like no guest soap or shower gel and a very poor welcome pack. We arrived very late after encountering a few road accidents and road works along the way. The coop had just closed in Grasmere. While we had many things with us, we were yet to buy milk. At cottage, the welcome consisted of a few sachets of UHT milk and a few 2 biscuit packs, very disappointing and useless. Then rushed at end of holiday having to leave at 10am having first stripped bedding, which you don't need to do in b & b/hotel. The cost now of cottages rented through Lakelovers is excessive. We feel the value of the past when compared to lovely b & b's and hotels with facilities is questionable and worth careful consideration.

Thank you for your feedback. We do provide hand soap at all 4 sinks in the property so I will investigate as to why there was none for your visit. The welcome pack is, I agree, rather basic but this is standard issue from Lakelovers. I am discussing with Lakelovers if it’s possible for it to be improved. Regarding check out times and stripping of beds, this is Lakelovers’ policy and beyond our control. Kind regards Property Owner

The local sheep provide daily entertainment. The only factors which precluded a five star review was the lack of a proper welcome pack ( we are spoilt by other operators such as Barefoot in Norfolk) and the non working pop up plug in the bathroom which was only replaced the day before departure despite being reported shortly after arrival.

Thank you for your feedback. We will discuss with Lakelovers what other options may be available regarding welcome packs and why it took them so long to fix the pop up waste. Kind regards Property Owner

However since 2020 the price of this cottage has gone up more than 50% so don’t know if I’ll book it next year. Also the bed sheets in both bedrooms were not clean. The smaller room had what looked like a coffee stain and also black/mould marks and the other room had the same minus the coffee stain. Surely the cleaner that made the beds should have seen this as it was noticeable straight away. I would have reported this straight away but my wife didn’t want anyone coming in when we were out. Still an enjoyable week but come on lakelovers let’s make sure the bedding is clean.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the linen provided was not up to the standard that should be expected. We have raised the issue of stained bed linen with Lakelovers who sub contract the laundry and hire of linen. They will in turn raise the issue with them. We would hope that this is a one off occurrence but we have alerted housekeeping to monitor the situation more closely. Kind regards, Tilly’s owners Property Owner

We loved our week long stay here and it was a good base for visiting Grasmere, Ambleside, Bowness, Windermere and Keswick. We also enjoyed watching the aircrafts albeit blink and you would miss them! We stayed in the Lake District many times and will definitely stay at Tilly's Cottage again. Just a couple of points to make; the drainage could be better in the sinks and showers and we also had a leak at the back of the sink in the smaller of the two bedrooms. We were also asked to leave the pillow and mattress protectors on which is slightly worrying as we would assume that these would be washed and fresh linen provided for each guest stay. Don't like to think that I was lying on someone else's sweat!

Thank you for leaving such a lovely review. We’re so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Just to answer the points you made: The sinks and showers have now had a good dose of drain unblocker and are working normally again . We try to do this regularly but must have left it too long before your arrival so we apologise and hope it didn’t spoil your stay. We couldn’t find a problem with leakage from the smaller bedroom sink but we have alerted Lakelovers maintenance who will check it out. Freshly laundered sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers are provided for each guest. The pillow and mattress protectors are checked by the housekeeper on changeover day and replaced immediately if necessary. Otherwise they are laundered very regularly but less often than the bed linen. This is in line with Lakelovers policy. At Tilly’s, we have spare mattress and pillow protectors in the cottage for each bedroom should they be required by the guest during their stay. Thank you for choosing Tilly’s Cottage and we’re delighted that you would visit again. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful accommodation, fabulous location, had a wonderful holiday ."

We were disappointed about the price! When we booked this holiday in summer of 2019 for our holiday in 2020 the price was £798 this was more than we’d ever payed before for the lakes but felt it was worth it as it looked top class ( and it was ) but along came COVID and we had to ring up and roll it over to 2021. We expected a small increase but WOW ! A whopping £195 extra , some people we got talking to had their holiday honoured at the price they paid initially . We were so looking forward to our holiday we just paid it and had a lovely time . We thought we’d found our cottage of our dreams to rebook every year ( we have been coming to Grasmere for 35yrs. ) so we looked on your web site for bookings for Tilly’s Cottage for next year and WOW got a shock again ! a whopping £370 + extra ! So adding this to the £195 that’s £565 increase in two years . A bit excessive we think, almost double the initial cost . I know the COVID is going to get the blame for this and holiday company’s like yours will think everyone is desperate for a holiday that we’ll pay any thing , but is this not a bit greedy ? Yours sincerely Mr and Mrs Pauline and George Chapelhow . Disappointed in your company for raising these prices to an exorbitant level !

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your recent stay at Tilly's Cottage. We are glad you had a lovely week and finally managed to get to the Lakes after having to reschedule due to COVID from last year. We are sorry you found the price to be disheartening. We understand that the w/c 23rd April had increased from 2020 to 2021 by £175. Reasons being is in 2020 the price band for this week was a mid-band and in 2021 this week turned to a high band resulting in a higher price. When transferring your booking the new price would have been explained by the customer service team and in your confirmations and we are sorry you had not raised it then. The demand for the Lakes has increased dramatically in the past few months with people not being able to go overseas and UK residents wanting to stay in the UK. There have been price increases not only throughout the self-catering industry but restaurants, cafes, hotels, and house prices. As you will notice Tilly’s Cottage is not the only property in the Lakes which has experienced an increase in price. However, since your comments the owner’s have reverted to fixed pricing and have agreed on a set price, they both find appropriate. We hope you may re-look and we can perhaps welcome you back soon. Overall we are glad to hear you enjoyed your week at Tilly's Cottage and we hope we can still welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
